As winter starts to wrap it’s icy fingers around the Northern Hemisphere, it’s time to start pulling your seasonal clothes out of the bottom of the drawers and closets. And if you want something a little different to go splashing through the puddles and snow this year, why not check out the celebrity boot sale currently on eBay.

Jay-Z, John Mayer, KT Tunstall, Amy Winehouse, Noel Gallagher, James Blunt, Katie Melua, The Arctic Monkeys, Kate Moss and a host of other stars decorated boots at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the UK, and now the footwear will raise money for Water Aid, an organization that provides clean water, sanitation and hygiene education in Africa and other parts of the developing world.

“We are really excited about the Water Aid Celebrity Boot auction on eBay,“ said Naomi Irving, corporate development manager at Water Aid. “We’re so grateful to all the celebrities involved who have signed a pair of Hunter for Water Aid wellies [boots], including KT Tunstall, The Fratellis and Noel Gallagher.“

The auction runs until November 20, and can be accessed through eBay.

KT Tunstall is also currently involved in a campaign to help ensure homelessness is eradicated in Scotland by 2012.

The “Hometime” campaign has been launched by Shelter Scotland to ensure homeless targets are met and asks people to name which song reminds them of home. The list of songs will then be handed over to politicians later this month.

Andre Agassi Grand Slam For Kids This Weekend

Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, The Killers and David Spade will headline the 13th annual Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children benefit concert in Las Vegas this weekend.

“I’m thrilled to have so many amazing performers donate their talents to help us help children,” said Agassi. “We look forward to celebrating with our partners what we’ve accomplished in Las Vegas with the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy and our future efforts to transform public education for underserved children nationwide.”

The concert will raise funds for the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation, which provides recreational and educational opportunities for at-risk boys and girls. The concert will be preceded by an invitation-only concert tonight – October 10 – featuring James Taylor and Five For Fighting’s John Ondrasik.

“This year the Grand Slam for Children is being held at Wynn Las Vegas, which offers a first-class, intimate experience for our guests,“ said Agassi. “The event is sure to be a hit with top exclusive entertainment at this beautiful venue.”

Save The Music's Esquire Party In The Hills

VH1’s Save The Music Foundation is to team up with Esquire Magazine for a charity party in the Hollywood Hills.

This fall Esquire will unveil its sixth annual Signature Space, transforming a stunning, contemporary home into a true personification of the modern man’s lifestyle. Charity events held at the Esquire Signature Spaces have raised more than $7 million to date, and on Saturday, October 25th at 7PM the VH1 Save The Music Foundation will once again partner with the Magazine for a spectacular bash to benefit the Foundation’s work to restore instrumental music education programs.

John Mayer Explores Arts With Tony Bennett

John Mayer joined Jerry Seinfeld, Whoopi Goldberg, and Terrence Howard at a special art’s education benefit on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old singer/songwriter performed 3 songs – “Waiting on the World to Change,” “Daughters,” and “Find Another You“ – at Tony Bennett’s Exploring The Arts gala held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. Hosted by Goldberg, the evening raised over $1.2 million for Bennett’s charity that supports arts education in public schools. Honored at the event were Reed Hastings, Chairman, President and CEO of Netflix; Sumner Redstone, Executive Chairman of Viacom and CBS Corporation; and Steve Wynn, Chairman of Wynn Resorts. Also in attendance were Katie Couric, Quincy Jones, and Rachael Ray. Tony Bennett closed the evening with trademark renditions of “Watch What Happens,” “For Once In My Life,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Who Cares,” “Fly Me To The Moon” and “I Left My Heart In San Francisco.”

As part of Bennett’s charity drive for the Exploring The Arts organization, an online auction is also currently running. Items up for grabs include meet-and-greets with Elton John, Katie Holmes, Andre Agassi, Bette Midler, Stephen Colbert, Kevin Spacey, Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire, as well as a dress owned by Christina Aguilera, signed prints and sunglasses from Bono, guitars signed by KD Lang and Sting, and many more items from Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Bruce Springsteen and others.

Stars Sing Songs For Tibet

Sting, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, and Alanis Morissette are just some of the artists who are donating songs to a new album to raise awareness for the International Campaign for Tibet.

Due for release on iTunes on August 5 and through other retailers on August 12, the album – called Songs For Tibet – will hit the airwaves just three days before the opening of the Beijing Olympics.

“This album will focus people’s attention on the importance of Tibet, the gifts of its culture, and the crisis the Tibetan people are facing today,” said Michael Wohl, from the Art of Peace Foundation. “We wanted to express our support for the Tibetan people and their message of peace through music – a fundamental means of expression – at a time when the eyes of the world are on China.”

It is a sentiment shared by the International Campaign for Tibet – a organization whose board of directors includes Richard Gere – with spokesperson Kate Saunders adding: “We support this unique project as a heartfelt expression of solidarity with the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people at a time when the survival of Tibet’s religious culture is under threat.”

Proceeds from the album will go towards raising awareness and support for Tibet and the Dalai Lama, as well as towards projects inspired by the Dalai Lama’s promotion of peace.

Songs For Tibet also features new music from Moby, Damien Rice, and many more, and was produced by Rupert Hine.

“The commitment and enthusiasm from such a wide group of artists has been astonishing and truly heartfelt,” said Hine. “It’s been exciting orchestrating such an historic project.”

Shakira Sheds Threads For Charity

Although the Northern Hemisphere is still gripped with winter chills, it has not stopped some celebrities from shedding their clothes… for a good cause, of course.

Latin American pop princess Shakira leads the pack by donating more than 40 items of clothing from her 2007 Oral Fixation Tour to a massive internet auction.

There is an impressive list of garments from the hip-shaking performer’s wardrobe, including a lavender skirt with turqoise and coral beading and a blue tank top emblazoned with the words “For Those Who Love To Rock”. And the demand has been overwhelming, with one dress attracting bids of $10,000, and a custom-made bra reaching $1,126.

“We have bids from all over the world,” said Eric Ganzin, president of Auction Cause. “It’s very exciting.”

Proceeds from the auction will go to the singer’s Pies Descalzos Foundation, and the money will be used for the construction of a school for impoverished children in North Colombia.

But bidders had better be quick – the eBay auction ends in just a few hours.

Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar has pushed the envelope a little further by allowing naked photos of herself to be auctioned on eBay.

But before you get too excited, they are not all that they appear: the 30-year-old actress originally posed for the photos in a little black dress that was later removed digitally.

The proceeds from the photos will go to the Coalition of Skin Diseases.

And even Donald Trump is getting in on the act… although thankfully he is keeping his clothes on.

A tie signed by Trump is currently up for auction on eBay, with proceeds going to the Spirit Fund, a fund established by radio station Warm 101.3 to help children in the Rochester area.

The story behind the tie is twisty and, you could say, knotty: When a Kodak executive arrived on set for a recent taping of The Celebrity Apprentice, Trump objected to his tie. He ordered the executive to replace it with one belonging to one of the security guards.

There are only a few hours left in the auction, and bids have already reached $759.

But the biggest celebrity auction on the Net right now is the 50th Grammy Awards Charity Auction on eBay. Over 100 items from some of music’s hottest stars is up for grabs, with all proceeds going to MusiCares.

The auction, which runs until February 21, features exciting and priceless items such as the chance to visit the set of LL Cool J’s next video, a guitar lesson with Joe Satriani, VIP tickets to concerts by Linkin Park, John Legend, and Rihanna, guitars signed by Richie Sambora, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, and Neil Diamond, a microphone signed by Joss Stone, posters and photos signed by Rod Stewart ($167), John Mayer ($170), and Sting ($482), as well as items from Avril Lavigne, Slash, Reba McEntire, Quincy Jones, Beyoncé Knowles, and Snoop Dogg.

The internet auction follows a live auction held on February 8 at Aretha Franklin’s MusiCare’s Person Of The Year Award ceremony. Items that were up for sale on that night included a private painting lesson with Tony Bennett, a saxophone signed by Bill Clinton, sheet music to Stairway To Heaven signed by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, as well as clothing and instruments donated by Elton John, Slash, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen.

MusiCares is the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, the group that gives out the Grammys, and focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.

Fox Raises Millions At Parkinson's Fundraiser

Actor Michael J. Fox received an exciting surprise after his 7th annual “A Funny (Groovy) Thing Happened on the Way to the Cure for Parkinson’s” fundraiser last month – the Woodstock-themed event raised an incredible $5.5 million.

Over 1000 guests, including Julianne Moore, Bart Freundlich, Katrina Bowden and Masi Oka, were in attendance, as well as New York’s Governor Eliot Spitzer and Newark’s Mayor Cory A Booker. Stephen Colbert was the comedic host, while musical performances from John Mayer, Joan Osborne, Levon Helm, Gavin DeGraw, and The Soul Ramblers created a psychedelic groove. Even Michael couldn’t resist grabbing his guitar and jamming on stage with the band, performing “Summertime Blues”, “Up On Cripple Creek”, and “Love the One You’re With”.

“He lives in the moment so much,” said Fox’s wife, Tracy Pollan. “I find that a real inspiration.”

Proceeds from the gala will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which researches treatments and cures for Parkinson’s disease. The Foundation has raised almost $100 million since Fox established it in 2000, 10 years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself.

The degenerative neurological disorder affects the central nervous system. Obvious symptoms include resting tremors, slowness of movement, imbalance, rigidity, and loss of coordination. Other symptoms range from mild memory difficulties to dementia, depression and anxiety, sleep difficulties, a loss of the sense of smell, speech and swallowing problems, and unexplained pains. One out of every hundred people over 60 are affected by this disease, and there are currently over six million sufferers around the world.

“We want to be that point for people who wake up in the morning and think, ‘Who’s finding a cure for this?’. It’s us. We wake up every day and that’s our mission,” said Fox.

A Wonderful Night For Charity

It was a night to warm you both inside and out, with good music to dance to, and a cause to make the warm fuzziness spread from the dance floor to the soul. And all due to the return to the stage of one of music’s best known entertainers.

The 12th annual Stevie Wonder House Full Of Toys charity concert was held on December 15 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, with a host of performers joining the legend on stage for an evening of exceptional music and fun. Proceeds from the show benefited underprivileged children during the holiday season, and provided toys, clothing, and food for needy families in the LA area. Ticket holders were asked to donate an unwrapped toy worth at least $10 at the door, and with over 5000 people attending, the results were phenomenal.

Wonder, who has just finished his first full tour in over a decade, was in fine form for the show, and drew heavily on hits from his 1973 album, “Innervisions”, with songs such as “Higher Ground” and a stirring version of “Golden Lady.” He also showed his wild, zany side as he played extensively with his talkbox, distorting his voice into a robot-like growl to cover some unlikely holiday tunes by other artists. He explained that this is the second Christmas since the death of his mother, and the emotions of grief and loss flowed through with an especially poignant version of “Ava Maria”.

The 57-year-old singer was joined on stage by John Mayer, who performed a duet on his own song, “Waiting On The World To Change”, and then provided cuttingly funky guitar licks on “Superstition”. This was followed by the appearance of John Legend, who laid down a soulful rendition of “Ordinary People” with Wonder.

“I’m honored to be in his presence, on his stage,” said Legend as Wonder swayed in joyful bliss to the music. “And to call him one of my biggest influences.”

Other performers on the night included Danny Carreras, a former bodyguard of Wonder’s who is now a successful gospel singer, and Edwin Hall, who performed just days after the death of his wife. The Hollywood Pop Academy Choir, made up of children and young people, also performed.

“I see everything as a blessing from God; the awards, the tributes from the stars, all of it,” said Wonder just before the show. “I don’t question anything. I just want to thank everyone for their support through the years because it means the world to me, it really does.”

Third Annual Tiger Woods 'Block Party' Raises over $1M

On October 6, Tiger Woods hosted his third annual Block Party at the Grove of Anaheim to benefit the Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC), a 14-acre youth-education facility located in Anaheim, California. The yearly event raised more than $1M, which goes directly to programs at the TWLC. “I want the kids to become better,” said Woods, “Better overall as a person, have a better opportunity at life, achieving their goals, and ultimately, giving back what they’ve learned.” On Saturday morning, Woods hosted a private golf event at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, where Fred Couples and John Cook joined Woods for an exhibition game before heading off to the red carpet festivities surrounding the Block Party at the Grove. Crimson lighting, red roses and red carpets decorated the Grove, where over 700 people showed up to support Woods’ efforts.

The event featured a VIP reception, cocktails, silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner and a performance by Grammy Award winner John Mayer. Guests included Teri Hatcher of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” Isaiah Washington of NBC’s “Bionic Woman,” tennis pro Lindsay Davenport and Dave Annable of ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters”. Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis prepared the four-course dinner, which included filet mignon, crab and ricotta manicotti, and fried polenta with marinara sauce. De Laurentiis, host of the program ‘Everyday Italian’ is the granddaughter of Italian movie producer Dino De Laurentiis and shared her thoughts on today’s youth. “We better take care of them, or we’re not going to have a great society when we grow old.”

Live auction items included an autographed guitar and meet and greet with John Mayer and Tiger Woods, which sold for $16,000; and a ‘VIP Grammy package’ auctioned off by National Recording Arts and Science President ‘Jimmy Jam Harris’, who also kicked in free recording time at his personal studio, winning bid: $38,000. But the bidding really got exciting when a trip to the 2008 Masters Tournement was auctioned off. 1992 Masters Champion, Fred Couples fueled a bidding frenzy after joining the auctioneer on stage to offer the winning bidder a round of golf at Augusta National Golf Club with himself on the Sunday prior to the 2008 Masters Tournament and transportation to Augusta with Couples on a private jet. Wining bid? $145,000. Thanks to Tiger Woods and all the sponsors for giving us yet another great event to benefit today’s youth.  

The Tiger Woods Learning Center is a youth-education center that represents the vision of Tiger Woods and his goal to provide Orange County youth from diverse backgrounds an interactive enrichment program that will improve individual aptitude in reading, math, science and technology. As a result, youth will develop personal accountability, independence and resilience leading to greater knowledge of career options and an increase in college enrollment.  

The Block Party is held to express gratitude to the Orange County community for supporting the Tiger Woods Learning Center and its students. The Block Party has raised more than $2 million for the Orange County youth attending the Tiger Woods Learning Center. Woods has donated more than $9 million of his own money to the 35,000-square-foot center, located at Crescent Avenue and Gilbert Street. The center cost about $25 million to establish.

Neil Young Organizes Benefit Concert

Musician Neil Young is to host his annual Bridge School Benefit Concerts near San Francisco on October 27-28, with an eclectic lineup of acts already confirmed to play.

The two acoustic concerts, to be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, will feature performers such as John Mayer, Metallica, and Pearl Jam singer, Eddie Vedder. Tom Waits will also perform with the classical string ensemble, The Kronos Quartet. Waits and the Quartet first performed together earlier in 2007, as part of a concert to benefit Richard Gere’s Healing the Divide Foundation.

Proceeds from the October shows will benefit Bridge School, a non-profit educational institution in Northern California for children with physical disabilities and severe speech impediments. It was co-founded by Young’s wife, Pegi, in 1986, after three of the couple’s children were born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Young organized the first Bridge School Concert in 1986, and with the exception of 1987, has hosted the event every year since.

Many of the performers at the concerts return annually. Eddie Vedder has performed eight times with his band Pearl Jam, and is singing this year with Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist, Flea, and ex Chilli Peppers/Pearl Jam drummer, Jack Irons. Other musicians to perform at this year’s shows include singer/songwriters Tegan and Sara, Regina Spektor, and 50s rocker Jerry Lee Lewis. Neil Young will also perform a set.

VH1 Save the Music Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Music television channel VH1 will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their charitable arm, VH1 Save The Music Foundation, on September 20 by hosting a celebrity gala in New York.

The event, to be held at the Lincoln Centre, will pay tribute to the humanitarian work of Hillary Clinton, Mariah Carey, and VH1 Save The Music founder, John Sykes. Bill Clinton, who donated his saxophone to the charity in 1998, will also be honored.

“Throughout the years, Bill and Hillary Clinton have exemplified incredible dedication and support for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation,” said Executive Director, Paul Cothran. “It is an honor to have them join in celebrating our 10th anniversary.”

The Gala will be hosted by actress and model Maria Menounos, founder of Take Action Hollywood!, a non-profit organization which uses the power of film to educate, empower, and raise social awareness. It will also feature performances by Jon Bon Jovi, John Mayer, and ex-Pink Floyd member, Roger Waters. But perhaps the biggest applause for the evening will be saved for a group of children from schools that have received VH1 Save The Music grants, who will play together for the first time as a student orchestra.

Later in the evening, Project Runway’s Tim Gunn will emcee a live auction featuring several exciting items that will be revealed closer to the date.

For the last decade, VH1 Save The Music has been dedicated to restoring music education in US public schools. During that time, they have donated over $34 million worth of musical instruments to more than 1400 schools. Tickets to the gala event can be purchased online at www.vh1savethemusic.com.
