Get A Real Buzz In New Astronaut Auction

Moonwalker Buzz Aldrin is just one of the astronaut legends offering once-in-a-lifetime artifacts and autographed items in the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation’s (ASF) 6th Annual Online Auction of Astronaut Experiences and Memorabilia.

Along with Apollo 13’s Jim Lovell and the first American to orbit the Earth, John Glenn, Aldrin is auctioning items such as a food container from the legendary Apollo 13 flight, a rare NASA 50th anniversary print signed by over 20 space heroes, lunch with John Glenn, skydiving with 5-time Space Shuttle astronaut Robert Gibson, and viewing a Space Shuttle launch with the first shuttle pilot Robert Crippen.

“The astronaut experiences are a great way to combine our hobbies with our dedication to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation,” said Mercury astronaut and ASF founder Scott Carpenter. “The Foundation has a long standing commitment to support the best and the brightest science and engineering college students this country has to offer. This auction will generate significant funds for these students.”

The auction can be accessed via the ASF website, and bids can also be made on November 7 at ASF’s Astronaut Autograph & Memorabilia Show at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, FL, where astronauts will be signing autographs for the public.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to college students in the science or engineering field of their major, and has funded nineteen $10,000 scholarships and awarded more than $2.6 million nationwide.

Richard Branson's Rock The Kasbah Event Tonight

For once, Sir Richard Branson will not be on stage at his Virgin Unite charity’s Rock The Kasbah event in Los Angeles later tonight, October 23. The business mogul and adventurer is sea-bound in a bid to beat a transatlantic sailing record.

The event will instead be hosted by _Dancing With The Stars_’ Samantha Harris and will feature performances by Natalie Imbruglia and Island Def Jam recording artist Jon McLaughlin.

The night will include a Moroccan dinner and an auction of epic proportions that will include items such as the chance to stay at Branson’s luxury game park in South Africa, race an Astin Martin around the California, name one of Virgin’s new A320 Airbuses, spend a week on Branson’s Private Paradise in the Virgin Islands, and much more.

Proceeds from the evening will go to Virgin Unite’s domestic and international programs, including the Eve Branson Foundation, set up by Sir Richard’s mother to help women in Morocco generate their own incomes to support their families, and the REGeneration initiative in the US, which helps homeless young people.

Last year’s Rock The Kasbah event – which Sir Richard described as “one of the best parties I’ve ever been to” – was attended by a who’s who of the celebrity world, including Jewel, Rachel Hunter, and Buzz Aldrin.

World Magic Awards To Feed The Children

You can help make the problem of starving children disappear by attending the 2008 World Magic Awards this Saturday, October 11.

Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, the show will benefit Feed the Children, an organization that provides food, medicine, clothing and other necessities to individuals, children and families who lack these essentials due to famine, war, poverty, or natural disaster.

Featuring a host of the world’s best magicians – including Hans Klok – the World Magic Awards will attract John Schneider, Corbin Bernsen, Melora Hardin, Jonathan Schaech, Debbie Matenopolous, Ernie Hudson, Buzz Aldrin, Cristian de la Fuente, Ashley Jones and many others.

Last year’s show was hosted by Roger Moore and was attended by Joan Collins, Pamela Anderson, Marla Maples, John Schneider, Robert Vaughn, and Eric Roberts.

Just close your eyes and make a wish… If only it were that easy. For deserving children benefiting from the We Promise Foundation’s series of fundraising events this fall, it truly is that magical! This year, with the help of supermodel Kim Alexis and John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, a spectacular gala evening is followed by a prestigious golf tournament in Virginia Beach to underwrite wishes of children who struggle with debilitating or life-threatening illness through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia.

The 3rd Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala is to be held at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront on September 3, and features silent and live auctions of celebrity memorabilia, athletic event and concert tickets, vacations and much more. The 10th Annual Charity Golf Classic will then be played at the Signature at West Neck Golf Course on September 4. The afternoon event is a sponsor/patron-only event that toasts more than 20 Wish children who join the players on the course.

Supermodel Kim Alexis has enjoyed one of the most notable careers in the modeling industry. Guests at the Diamonds in the Sky Gala won’t have any trouble remembering the lyrics to sing along with John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band when they take the stage at the Virginia Beach Hilton. Hailing from Rhode Island, the band rocketed onto the radio and topped the rock charts in the early ‘80s when they wrote and performed the soundtrack for the movie “Eddie and the Cruisers,” a 1983 release that landed their first recording contract. With more than 25 years performing together, they’re most recognized for their hits “On the Dark Side,” “C.I.T.Y.” and “Voice of America’s Sons” which also was the featured theme song for the movie “Cobra” starring Sylvester Stallone in 1985.

Additional celebrity guests include former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a cadre of former Washington Redskins football players, LPGA golfer Cindy Rarick, Survivor All-Star Rudy Boesch and former NASCAR racer Ashton Lewis. Stars Support Firefighters' Greater Alarm Gala

Celebrities offered their support for the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Greater Alarm Gala in Hollywood. This event was held in the week of September 11th in remembrance of the numerous firefighters who lost their lives.

Astronaut and In the Shadow of the Moon star Buzz Aldrin was in attendance, and Crossing Jordan star Steven Valentine conducted the live auction. Among the the unique auction items were fire helmets signed by an assortment of famous people including Sylvester Stallone, Jay Leno, Kevin Eubanks, Buzz Aldrin, Phyllis Diller, The Los Angeles Dodgers, Stan Lee, James Caan, Cheech Marin. and some cast members of NBC’s Heroes.

The Heroes cast signed and dedicated their helmet to “The Real Heroes”. Members of the cast of Wicked performed a duet as a video montage played saluting LAFD fire fighters.

The proceeds from the event support the Fallen Firefighters Memorial for the purpose of creating and maintaining the LAFD Firefighter Museum and Memorial, as well as providing children’s fire safety programs.
