The LA Art Show: Modern & Contemporary, The Los Angeles Fine Art Show: Historic & Traditional, and the IFPDA Print Fair will kick off with a high-profile Opening Night Premiere Party on Wednesday, January 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Hosted by actor and The Art of Elysium supporter David Arquette, proceeds from the Opening Night Premiere Party will enable The Art of Elysium to expand its program to bring arts to critically ill hospitalized children and increase the number of school children who visit the Getty through the J. Paul Getty Museum’s Education Department program for Title One School visits.

Gibson GuitarTown on The Sunset Strip, administered by the Gibson Foundation, is completing its yearlong “tour” of the boulevard and has announced the art guitars will be auctioned for charity on December 3, 2011, at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills Gallery (9665 Wilshire Blvd.) beginning at 2 p.m.

The auction will also be accessible online at www.julienslive.com. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Los Angeles Youth Network, which provides outreach, food, emergency shelter, transitional living and educational enrichment programs for homeless adolescents; West Hollywood Arts & Cultural Commission to further support public art and artists on The Sunset Strip; and the West Hollywood Library.

GuitarTown on The Sunset Strip is a larger-than-life public art exhibit celebrating the people and places that have shaped the legendary music boulevard. More than 20 ten-foot Gibson art guitars have lined the 1.6-mile boulevard since August 2010.

Two of Food Network’s biggest icons, Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri, will square off against each other for culinary bragging rights in Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off, premiering Sunday, January 1st at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

In this six-episode competition series, the Emmy-winning talk show host Rachael Ray and best-selling cookbook author and successful restaurateur Guy Fieri, will each serve as coaches and mentors to eight multi-talented celebrities, all of whom are passionate about food and cooking. Michael McKean Wins $1 Million For Charity In Jeopardy Final

Actor Michael McKean (“Laverne and Shirley” and star of Broadway’s “Superior Donuts”) prevailed as champion of the Jeopardy! Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Tournament during the weekend — winning $1 million for his charity the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF). This is the biggest amount ever awarded to charity in “Jeopardy!” history. It is also the largest single donation ever received by the IMF.

Myeloma is the second most common blood cancer after lymphomas, affecting an estimated 750,000 people worldwide. McKean became passionate for the cause when his friend, musician Lee Grayson, passed away from myeloma eight years ago. Regarding today’s victory, McKean said, “If some breakthroughs can be made or more research can be done due to this win, it would be incredible. There are so many amazing people at IMF who do great work.”

According to Susie Novis, president and co-founder of the IMF, McKean’s donation will be used for a special fund in honor of McKean and Grayson. “The money will fund research to find a cure and to help patients and their families through education,” Novis said. “His win has shown us how empowering being informed can be — it can change the lives of people all over the world!”

Cheech Marin Donates Jeopardy Winnings To Charity

Last night, actor/comedian Cheech Marin (“Cheech & Chong” and “Lost”) placed third in the “Jeopardy!” Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Tournament, winning $100,000 for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) for this final round.

HSF is the nation’s leading Hispanic scholarship organization and provides support to Hispanic families and students through education workshops, scholarships, college retention and career opportunities. Frank Alvarez, president and CEO of HSF, said, “Cheech has long believed in the importance of Latino college completion. By choosing us as his nonprofit partner, he is helping low income, academically qualified Latinos realize their dreams.”

Marin’s total "Jeopardy’ wins of $150,000 will help fund students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in performing arts and entertainment. The Jeopardy! Million Dollar Celebrity Charity Invitational is well under way, and will be taping its semi-final and final rounds this weekend in Los Angeles.

The competition started last September, with contestants such as Dana Delany, Doug Savant, Hill Harper, David Duchovny, Anderson Cooper and a host of other famous faces playing the game show for charities such as UNICEF, the American Cancer Society, the Scleroderma Research Foundation, the Michael J. Celebs For Kids Makes A $7 Million Challenge

Dozens of celebrities including actors Matt Damon, Cheech Marin, and Hockey Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr are helping to raise funds for a research centre dedicated to pediatric rheumatology at Canada’s B.C. Children’s Hospital

Inspired by Karim Chandani, founder of Celebs for Kids in partnership with the Arthritis Society of Canada and Lupus Canada, the $3.5 million project – the Ross Petty Research Chair in Paediatric Rheumatology – will address the enormous lack of knowledge about Lupus in both the medical field and the general public, and the fact that there is currently no such research or treatment facility in Canada.

According to lupus sufferer Dr Jan McCaffrey, lupus is difficult to diagnose or treat because it affects every patient differently and has only a fraction of the research or public awareness compared to that of other well-known diseases. It is an autoimmune disease that attacks healthy body systems and tissues, resulting in pain and organ damage. McCaffrey says, “If I had to write a bumper sticker for doctors and lupus with a view of helping diagnose patients sooner, I would say, ‘If it doesn’t make sense, think of lupus.’”

Actor Joe Pesci and former NFL players Sterling Sharpe and Kordell Stewart have joined the line-up of celebrities for the 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament on May 15, while actors Samuel L. Jackson, David James Elliott, Kevin Sorbo, and Lucas Black have withdrawn.

“We are very excited to have Joe Pesci and Kordell Stewart joining the field for the first time and to have Sterling Sharpe return,” said Darin MacDonald, tournament director of the BMW Charity Pro-Am. “It is unfortunate to hear about Samuel L. Jackson, David James Elliott, Kevin Sorbo and Lucas Black, but we understand. They had committed to play, but apparently the shooting schedules of their new movies have changed. BMW’s Golf Charity Event will be televised live on the Golf Channel from the Bright’s Creek Golf Club, N.C., on May 15-18, 2008. It will be the only U.S. Nationwide golf tournament where amateurs, celebrities, and pros gather together for charity.

The professional winner of the overall 72 hole event will take home $117,000 from the total purse of $650,000, which is one of the largest purses on the Nationwide Tour. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities. The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America, and the Spartanburg Community College will also benefit from this event.

The first seven tournaments have raised more than $5.7 million for 80+ area charities.

Stars Support Firefighters' Greater Alarm Gala

Celebrities offered their support for the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Greater Alarm Gala in Hollywood. This event was held in the week of September 11th in remembrance of the numerous firefighters who lost their lives.

Astronaut and In the Shadow of the Moon star Buzz Aldrin was in attendance, and Crossing Jordan star Steven Valentine conducted the live auction. Among the the unique auction items were fire helmets signed by an assortment of famous people including Sylvester Stallone, Jay Leno, Kevin Eubanks, Buzz Aldrin, Phyllis Diller, The Los Angeles Dodgers, Stan Lee, James Caan, Cheech Marin. and some cast members of NBC’s Heroes.

The Heroes cast signed and dedicated their helmet to “The Real Heroes”. Members of the cast of Wicked performed a duet as a video montage played saluting LAFD fire fighters.
