Stars To Join Kirk Douglas At Annual LA Mission Thanksgiving Meal

Skid Row homeless men, women and children will gather at the Los Angeles Mission for a traditional Thanksgiving meal on November 21.

Chef Michael Voltaggio will be creating a menu with his signature flair. The menu will be traditional turkey surrounded by the special creations of Chef Voltaggio, named “Top Chef” in the Emmy Award winning show of the same name. His Restaurant Ink was named “Best New Restaurant in America” in its March 2012 edition. Voltaggio has been working for weeks with the Los Angeles Mission staff to provide a special unique version of Thanksgiving for the community.

Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne, for whom the Anne Douglas Center for Women at the Los Angeles Mission is named, will host the Mission’s Thanksgiving dinner for the 8th year. Wells Fargo Bank is sponsoring, and will bring its iconic stagecoach to Skid Row to deliver donations. Los Angeles Christian Health Centers will provide foot care and exams at the event.

Tony Bennett, Ray Romano and Phil Donahue will headline the celebration as stars from the entertainment industry show their support for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's 50th anniversary with a benefit gala in Los Angeles on January 7, 2012.

Tony Bennett, a personal friend of St. Jude founder – the late entertainer Danny Thomas – will perform for the star-studded crowd along with Ray Romano, a good friend of the Thomas family and an ardent supporter of St. Jude, to help commemorate what would have been Thomas’ 100th birthday. The 50th anniversary gala honors St. Jude’s commitment to saving the lives of children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases.

“My father always said there would be no St. Jude without Hollywood,” said Tony Thomas, son of Danny Thomas and one of the gala’s co-chairs. “He spent the 1950’s raising money for his dream, to build a hospital for research and care under one roof for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. “This year I was diagnosed with psoriasis, a hereditary, genetic, autoimmune disease that effects over 125 million people around the world and currently has no cure,” she wrote on her official blog. "On March 4 2012 it will be the sixth annual Walk To Cure Psoriasis and I hope you guys will join me in helping raise funds and awareness for the event. Over the last five years they have raised almost 1.5 million dollars to help research for a cure and there are now 22 walks across the country! They also started the first ever DNA BioBank, which is used by researchers across the country and the money from the walk goes directly to this.

This weekend marks ten years since the 9/11 terror attacks, and celebrities are joining the rest of the world in commemorating the anniversary.

Flight 93 National Memorial
Bill Clinton will join George W. Bush, Laura Bush and Sarah McLachlan at the September 10 dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will take place at the newly-opened memorial plaza surrounding the site where Flight 93 crashed at 10:03 a.m. on September 11, 2001. President Obama is expected to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial later that day.

The Los Angeles Mission began its 75th year of service to the homeless of Skid Row with one of the largest street events in its history. Thousands of homeless men, women and children crowded onto closed downtown streets for the Good Friday Event. BGC Charity Day 2010 Attracts Celebrity Brokers

Stars around the world raised charity cash yesterday, September 13, as part of the BGC Charity Day.

Celebrity brokers’ helped raise money by conducting real trades with BGC’s clients (the major banks and investment banks) over the phone from the trading floor (alongside a licensed broker). From these trades, worth millions of dollars in bonds, foreign exchange, derivatives and other products, BGC aimed to surpass last year’s total of $10 million globally, which brought the five-year total raised on BGC’s Charity Day to $33 million.

BGC Partners was created as Cantor Fitzgerald re-built following the World Trade Center attacks. Cantor was the worst hit company on 9/11, losing 658 of its employees – two thirds of its workforce at the time. To commemorate those who were lost on the day, every year on September 11, BGC’s revenues are distributed to dozens of charities around the world.

The stars hit the golf course in beautiful Toluca Lake, California on Monday, May 5th, to support the Ann and George Lopez Foundation. This was the third annual celebrity golf tournament and the first fundraiser to benefit the Foundation.

The sold out event raised over $425,000 to assist underprivileged children and adults confronting challenges in education and health; the Foundation was created to raise awareness about kidney disease and organ donation.

Hilary Duff To Attend Speedway Event

Hilary Duff will be at the Kentucky Speedway at Sparta later this month to support the Blessings in a Backpack program.

The singer will serve as the grand marshal of the NASCAR nationwide series “Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz” and encourage people to donate to the Blessings in a Backpack program, which every week distributes backpacks filled with enough non-perishable food for the weekend (six meals) to “at-risk” students.

Duff and 24 students from Gallatin County Schools will participate in activities at the Speedway, including a pit-road bike relay race. She will also drop the flag for the NASCAR race to begin. People will also be able to donate old and new backpacks to the program.
