Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy is teaming up with online community MASScanvas, encouraging fans to design and illustrate “POWER” themed T-shirts. A portion of the sales of winning T-shirts will benefit Invisible Children.

Starting Wednesday, February 1, fans can submit designs for the “POWER” challenge until February 29th at masscanvas.com. ALL entries will be featured on masscanvas.com. Entrants and fans can comment on designs throughout the challenge and VOTE for the top 20 designs. On March 22, Pete Wentz will choose 5 winning tees (each receiving a $1,000 cash prize), from the top 20, which he feels best represent the theme. The 5 winning tees will be printed in limited quantity, individually hand-numbered, and sold in support of the charitable cause.

Held at Carnegie Hall, the concert will benefit Bono’s (RED) charity to eliminate AIDS in Africa, and follows the successful (RED)NIGHTS concerts that were held earlier this year, featuring Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, The Veronicas and many others.

The musicians reportedly took part in some massive jam sessions during the concert, playing David Bowie’s Jean Genie and The Velvet Underground’s ‘Sweet Jane’.

The Jed Foundation held its 8th annual gala at Guastavino’s in New York on Thursday, June 11.

Hosted by former Dateline NBC anchor Stone Phillips, the event awarded Voice of Mental Health accolades to Peter Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Sheila Nevins of HBO. It also featured musical performances from Kristy Cates of the musical Wicked! and The Bacon Brothers, the duo that is comprised of Kevin Bacon and his brother.

Established in 2000, the Jed Foundation works nationally to reduce the rate of suicide and the prevalence of emotional distress among college and university students. To achieve this end, the organization collaborates with the public and leaders in higher education, mental health, and research to produce and advance initiatives.

Stars Duet With Cuban Musicians For Climate Change

Amy Winehouse, The Killers and The Rolling Stones have teamed up with a group of Cuban musicians on an album designed to fight climate change.

The artists will perform duets with Rhythms Del Mundo on the CD, titled Classics, with proceeds from the project going to fund climate change projects and natural disaster relief around the world.

Inspired by the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the album will contain musical gems such as The Killers singing The Eagles’ Hotel California, and The Rolling Stones taking on The Drifters’ Under the Boardwalk. Also included on the album will be Amy Winehouse’s take on Sam Cooke’s Cupid. But perhaps the real highlight will be Fall Out Boy and John Mayer teaming up to cover Michael Jackson’s Beat It.

Smashing Pumpkins Support PETA Petition

Last month, Smashing Pumpkins members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin joined the growing list of compassionate musicians who have teamed up with peta2 US, the youth arm of PETA, to sign a petition aimed at KFC – and they are asking their fans to do the same.

In the petition, Corgan and former Smashing Pumpkins drummer Chamberlin urge KFC to “improve the lives of” chickens who “suffer from extremely crowded conditions, crippling bone and joint problems resulting from top-heavy breeding, callous handling, inhumane slaughter techniques, and shortened life spans”. The nearly 1 billion chickens slaughtered for KFC every year have their sensitive beaks cut off and are drugged and abused.

Smashing Pumpkins joins an ever-growing list of musicians, including Bat For Lashes, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against and Hadouken, that have teamed up with peta2 US to speak out against KFC’s suppliers’ blatant abuse of chickens.

Pete Wentz Comes To The Rescue

Fall Out Boy’s Peter Wentz played a special gig in Washington DC on Saturday, April 25, to raise money and awareness of Invisible Children, and blogged in the Huffington Post about why the cause is so close to his heart.

“Invisible Children is staging an event called the RESCUE, in 100 cities across 10 countries worldwide. Thousands of people are going to symbolically ‘abduct’ themselves and stand in solidarity with all the abducted children forced to fight as soldiers,” he wrote before the gig. "In turn, every group will be ‘rescued’ by a celebrity, politician, local luminary — someone who will make noise and bring the media out. I will be there, in Washington, D.C. standing in solidarity with thousands of other people so that these kids in Uganda will be noticed. And if no cultural leader shows up in one particular city, then everyone in the surrounding cites that were rescued, will take a bus to join them. This will continue until every participating city is rescued. Now, this could take days, or even weeks, but it’s going to happen.

This Valentine’s day, Peter Wentz from Fall Out Boy and singer-songwriter Tyrone Wells are playing cupid for a cause.

Invisible Children, a media-based organization that provides relief for the war-affected people of northern Uganda, is holding a raffle to win a personalized Valentine’s videogram for your sweetheart. Tickets can be purchased as two for $2, four for $5, or 20 for $20 on Invisible Children’s online store until February 11th.

Winners will receive a personal love-note from Pete or Tyrone to their Valentine via video on February 14th, with all proceeds going to Invisible Children. The raffle’s inception came about with Wells in 2008, who has largely been involved with Invisible Children throughout the years. Wells has participated in their national event called the Global Night Commute, and by selling the original ‘Rough Cut’ documentary on the road. “The fruitcake has always been a bad gift. You never eat it or keep it. You just always end up re-gifting it,” said skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. “This year we’re changing the fruitcake and making it a symbol of giving and charity.”

Two-pound fruitcake bricks will be given away through a PayPal application on Facebook to benefit the stars’ favorite charities. Recipients will be invited via a personal video to contribute through PayPal to the charities and “re-gift” the fruitcake to friends and family all across the world.

Former Guns ‘N’ Roses guitarist Slash has joined the fight against Proposition 8.

The musician has filmed a new video with his wife – Mrs Slash, AKA Perla Hudson – in which they urge people to protest against the decision that will ban same-sex marriages in California.

In the video, Slash plays the Star Spangled Banner on his guitar while Hudson says, “I married my sweetheart, you should be able to marry yours too. Say no to hate and yes to equal rights. Keep up the fight.”

Drew Barrymore Says No To Propostion 8

Drew Barrymore joined thousands of protestors in West Hollywood over the weekend to march against Proposition 8, the controversial initiative to ban same-sex marriage in California.

This cannot happen. We have to change this. This is so wrong. With all my heart, I could not feel more passionate about this.”

Hip Hop stars 50 Cent and Ludacris will perform at a concert to raise awareness of veterans causes next month.

“A Night for Vets: An MTV Concert for the BRAVE” is part of MTV’s Choose or Lose campaign, an initiative designed to engage, inform and empower young voters on the political issues that matter to them most. The concert hopes to draw attention to a new petition launched by MTV called the Bill of Rights for American Veterans (or BRAVE) which calls on politicians to support vets’ issues and enact positive legislative changes.

Ellen DeGeneres has produced a Public Service Announcement in opposition to Proposition 8, the initiative that seeks to ban same-sex marriages in California.

“I did something this year I thought I’d never get to do – I got married,” said the talk show host, who wedded Portia De Rossi in September. “It was the happiest day of my life… I believe in fairness, I believe in compassion, I believe in equality for all people – Proposition 8 does not. Please, please vote No on Prop 8.”

The PSA follows a blog posted on her website earlier this month, in which she openly blasted the bill, and her appearance at a high profile “Say Yes To Prop 2” party.
