Stars Support Point Foundation LGBTQ Scholarships

More than 450 guests attended the annual Point Honors gala on April 15 to help support Point Foundation Scholarships and programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students.

The event, held at Pier Sixty on the Hudson River, raised over $660,000 for Point Foundation (Point), the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.

Kristin Chenoweth To Perform At CANY Gala

Tony Award winner Dick Latessa, Honorary Board Chair, brings together Broadway stars to help raise funds for Creative Alternatives of New York (CANY) which uses drama therapy to help New York’s most vulnerable children and adults.

This year’s 2013 Annual Gala, which celebrates 30 years of the CANY mission of creativity, community and change to rebuild lives, will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Edison Hotel Ballroom (240 West 47th Street). The 2013 Honorees are Tony Award winners Katie Finneran and Kathleen Marshall, and in memoriam, CANY Founding Chairperson, Janet L. Levy.

Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, appetizers and silent auction. Dinner, show and live auction start at 7:45 p.m. and includes a Special Performance by Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, and video presentation by stage, film and television actor Victor Garber. Tony Award winner Judith Light will present the award to Ms. Finneran, Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick will present the award to Ms. Marshall, and CANY Founding Board Member James I. Black, III will present the award to Mrs. Levy’s family.

Nigel Barker To Be Honored By Point Foundation

Point Foundation (Point), the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students of merit, will honor Nigel Barker and The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. on Monday, April 15.

The Point Honors event will be held at New York’s Pier Sixty starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets begin at $500. www.pointfoundation.org/phny.

David Burtka will host the evening. Celebrity guests include Judith Light, David Mixner, Thomas Roberts, Margot Bingham, Cara Buono, Tamsen Fadal and La La Anthony. Performances by Andy Kelso and Timothy Ware of Broadway’s Kinky Boots will be part of the evening of cocktails and dinner, which also features current Point Scholars and Point Alumni.

Willie Nelson To Perform At Global Green Pre-Oscar Party

Willie Nelson will perform at tomorrow night’s Global Green Pre-Oscar Party at Avalon Hollywood.

Global Green’s Annual Pre-Oscar Party is THE green event of Oscar Week. 1,500 guests including celebrities, eco-luminaries, and entertainment press from around the world come to hear the latest green messages from some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The evening culminates with stellar music performances by headline performing talent. Attendees to the Pre-Oscar party include Hollywood’s elite activists, actors and musicians, industry executives, political and business leaders and leading environmentalists.

Celebrity Voices Support LGBTQ Youth At Point Foundation Event‏

Star power met scholar power on Saturday, September 15 at Voices on Point, a concert and dinner benefiting Point Foundation, the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students of merit.

Performing at The Wiltern in Los Angeles were Robin Thicke, Mark Ballas, Rock Mafia, John Tartaglia and Ellen Greene. Celebrity presenters included Lance Bass, Mob Wives´ Drita D’avano, Queen Latifah, Judith Light, Jenny McCarthy, Busy Philipps, Jamie Pressly, Brandon Routh, Thomas Sadoski and Michael Urie.

Hosting the evening was comedian Hal Sparks, who welcomed some of Point’s 76 current scholars to join the celebrities on stage and share with the audience their compelling stories of perseverance as they pursue a higher education degree. A highlight of the evening was when Michael Urie, star of CBS’s highly anticipated Partners, presented the Point Inspiration Award to Josie Thomas, CBS’s Senior VP & Chief Diversity Officer. The award was given to CBS in recognition of the company being a champion for respect and inclusion of the LGBTQ community; both in front of and behind the camera.

Stars Style Suits For America's Workforce

Broadway’s biggest stars helped to support Men’s Wearhouse’s fifth annual National Suit Drive on Monday, during the 66th Annual Tony Awards Backstage Creations Celebrity Retreat.

Tyler Perry, Amanda Seyfried, Jesse Tyler Furgerson and John Larroquette were among the stars who personally styled professional suits to inspire looks to be donated to National Suit Drive. Their generosity will help men in need transition back into the workforce in each celebrity’s hometown.

Bernadette Peters, who was honored with the Isabelle Stevens Awards for her charitable work, was eager to support National Suit Drive at the Celebrity Retreat. Peters selected a lavender Egara slim-fit shirt with a Tommy Hilfiger yellow tie with blue polka dots, which was paired with a Kenneth Cole two-button charcoal suit. After styling the look she said, “He’ll get the job!”

Broadway Stars To Come Out For Easter Bonnet Competition

The 26th Annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Easter Bonnet Competition returns this week, featuring the companies of Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring productions offering skits, songs and dances, as well as elaborately designed and themed bonnets created specially for the event.

The line-up of presenters, judges and participants for this year’s edition will include a four-time Tony Award winner, eight Tony Award nominees and more than 200 of Broadway and Off-Broadway’s most talented performers.

The 2012 edition of the Easter Bonnet Competition will again be presented at the Minskoff Theatre, currently the home of Disney’s The Lion King. The two-day event will be held April 23 at 4:30 pm and April 24 at 2 pm.

Celebrity Charity Event Raises $460,000 For Point Foundation

Point Foundation (Point), the nation’s largest scholarship granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit, today announced that it raised over $460,000 at its annual Point Honors – New York fundraising gala held at Capitale in New York on April 4, hosted by Kelly Ripa and Sam Champion.

The contributions came from corporate sponsorships, table and ticket sales, as well as items sold during the live auction. An additional $100,000 donation was given to support a Point Named Scholarship.

Iman and Isaac Mizrahi presented the Point Courage Award to Bravo’s Andy Cohen, which recognizes an individual who has advocated for the future of the LGBT community and lives with the vision that investing in today’s potential will produce a brighter tomorrow. Cohen, who thanked his mother for her continued encouragement and support, said, “It is the Point scholars who are the real courageous ones.”
