Hugh Grant, Jonathan Ross and former Doctor Who David Tennant put their grey-matter to the test at Centrepoint’s annual Ultimate Pub Quiz on Tuesday.

The light-hearted contest, now in its third year, was held at the Paramount Club in Soho’s Centre Point Tower for the first time. The 23 teams, comprised of staff from London businesses and celebrities such as Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis, Rav Wilding and Sara Cox, pitted their wits against one another under the watchful eye of Quiz Master Fern Britton and her sidekick Peter Dixon, voice of the X Factor.

As well as the three rounds of questions, Fern presided over a celebrity auction – offering teams the chance to buy the assistance of Grant, Ross, Tennant or Hollyoaks actress and Dancing on Ice star, Jorgie Porter, for the Showbiz Round. Grant and Ross proved particularly popular, attracting a flurry of bids with the respective self deprecating humour and bravado that have become their trademarks. Ross alone went for £4,500!

Dirty Dancing Voted Best Chick Flick In Oxfam Survey

British women have crowned Dirty Dancing – starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey – as their favourite chick flick for a girls’ night in, according to a survey for Oxfam, to mark the launch of Oxfam’s Have a Bit of a Do fundraising campaign.

The classic film was the top choice for 21% of those who have a favourite chick flick for a girl’s night in. Bridget Jones’s Diary – featuring Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant – came a close second with 19% of the vote while Pretty Woman and Sex and the City were joint third with 11%. Love Actually (also featuring Hugh Grant) came fifth in the race to be named the UK’s favourite film for a girls’ night in with 9%.

The survey also revealed a North-South divide when it comes to chick flicks. Women in the North East, North West, and Yorkshire and the Humber were most likely to choose Bridget Jones’s Diary as their favourite girly film, with those living in London, the South East and the South West opting for Dirty Dancing.

Newly-wed couple David Walliams and Lara Stone joined famous faces such as Hugh Grant, Tracey Emin, Yasmin Le Bon, Alan Rickman, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson and Anjelica Huston to raise money for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation – a charity established by Mr Gorbachev following the death of his wife in 1999.

Actor Hugh Grant has thrown his support behind a campaign being run by a newspaper in North West England to raise money for cancer nurses.

The actor was in Bolton to help launch a campaign being run by The Bolton News that aims to raise over $200,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses, who care for terminal cancer patients who want to die at home.

“I know from my own experience how important it is to have someone you love die at home, cared for by a Marie Curie nurse,” said the 48-year-old – whose mother died of pancreatic cancer in 2001 – told the newspaper. "That’s why I’m supporting the Bolton nursing appeal; £20 can pay for an hour of care but you don’t have to just donate your money, you could get sponsored to take on a challenge, hold an event or share some of your time and skills.

The star is helping spread awareness of www.healthtalkonline.org in memory of his late mother, who died of the disease in 2001.

“When my mother was diagnosed… eight years ago, the doctors were great but you did want, and I know she wanted, more information,” said Grant. “You wanted to really hear it from the horse’s mouth – what is this thing like? What’s it like to experience it? You know, what are the options? What are the possibilities? I went on this website, HealthTalkOnline, and it was just so far superior to anything that was available then and frankly anything that’s available now. The vast majority of these health websites you end up on are sponsored by big pharmaceutical companies and are just slightly slanted. They have a commercial aspect. Hugh Grant Announces Cancer Survey Findings

British actor Hugh Grant attended a special event in London earlier this week to help launch a campaign to make terminally ill cancer patients aware of nursing services which allow them to die at home.

The actor was at the Marie Curie Cancer Care at the British Museum to discuss the findings of a survey he commissioned to identify awareness levels of the Marie Curie Nursing Service across the UK.

While four out of five of the UK population have heard of Marie Curie Cancer Care, the new survey shows that 79 per cent of the population doesn’t know if there is a Marie Curie Nursing Service available to them locally. Just under half (48 per cent) responded – ’don’t know’ when asked how they would go about getting a Marie Curie Nurse.

British actor Hugh Grant, best known for his roles in a series of romantic comedies, has pledged his support for the annual major fundraising campaign of one of Britain’s most well known cancer charities.

The 47-year-old actor is the face and voice behind this year’s Daffodil Day Campaign, the flagship fundraising event for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Grant has recorded radio and television advertisements to highlight the campaign, which runs throughout March, as part of the organization’s 60th anniversary.

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides nurses to terminally ill patients who want to die at home, and Grant first came into contact with the organization when his mother, Fynvola, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer eight years ago. Supermodel Kate Moss sold a one-minute kiss to wealthy businessman Philip Green for £60,000 ($108,000) at a recent charity auction to benefit the Hoping Foundation.

Choosing not to exercise his kissing rights as winning bidder, Green made the UK popular press’ day by ceding the honours to second highest bidder Jemima Khan, girlfriend of Hugh Grant.

The Hoping Foundation provides grants to community projects working with children in Palestinian refugee camps.
