Fans Remember Boyzone Star By Giving To Charity

Fans of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, who died last week, have donated over $15,000 to a British children’s charity in his memory.

 Gately was a Goodwill Ambassador for Caudwell Children, a charity that focuses on donations to special children for medical treatment, therapy, specialized equipment, and dying wish holidays. Gately’s husband Andrew Cowles had requested that in lieu of flowers, fans could donate to his favourite charity.  

“It’s an amazing gesture for the charity and it sums up Stephen – he always thought of others first,” said charity spokesperson Trudi Beswick. “We’re already up to an amazing amount and hopefully we can buy wheelchairs and equipment and therapy for kids. It’ll be a lovely memory for everybody to remember him by. He was a fantastic goodwill ambassador for us. We really want to give feedback to everyone – to everyone that’s supported us, to Andrew, the family and everyone in Boyzone and thank them by showing them the children we’ve helped in a couple of months time.”

Gately’s funeral was attended by bandmates Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch, as well as many others. Messages of support were read out from George Michael, David and Victoria Beckham, Take That, U2 and Colin Farrell.

Gately was also an ambassador for British charity Missing People.

Colin Farrell To Attend Charity Evening With The Stars

FAST, The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics, will host an “Evening with the Stars” on Saturday, December 5, to benefit research toward a cure for the rare neurological disorder, Angelman Syndrome (AS).

Gala attendees are set to include actor and Golden Globe Winner Colin Farrell and singer/songwriter Regie Hamm, both of whom have been touched by AS through the diagnoses of their children. Hamm, who won the 2008 American Idol Songwriter competition, will also perform his hit, “Time of My Life,” which became a smash hit single for Idol winner David Cook.

An evening of fun and entertainment, attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception, four-course dinner, dancing and silent auction; sponsored in part by FAST corporate sponsors LexisNexis and Innovative Mag-Drive. The proceeds raised throughout the night will be donated for research dedicated to finding a cure for Angelmen Syndrome, a disorder that is often misdiagnosed as autism, cerebral palsy and/or mental retardation.

“We are excited about the progress we’ve made in helping to find a cure for Angelman Syndrome,” said Paula Evans, founder and chairperson of FAST. “Because this disease is so often misdiagnosed, it’s important for us to raise awareness and funds to continue the great strides we’ve already achieved. We hope to surpass last year’s success with yet another fantastic evening.”

“The families involved with FAST have created a strong support network while tirelessly assisting those dedicated to finding a cure. I’m extremely proud to support such an inspiring organization,” said Farrell.

FAST will kick-off the evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Chicago located at 151 East Wacker Drive in Chicago. Individual tickets are $150 or a table for ten can be purchased for $1,500. A selection of items designed and decorated by some of Entertainment’s biggest stars will go under the hammer at Bonhams and Butterfields Auction House in Los Angeles tonight, May 28.

The Stars For A Cause Auction features a wide range of rare and collectable items, such as posters signed by Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anna Paquin, David Duchovny, Rumer Willis, Jonas Brothers, P. Diddy, America Ferrera, Hayden Panettiere, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, Anne Hathaway, Steve Carell, Emma Thompson, Marisa Tomei, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Tina Fey, Steven Spielberg and many more.

Stars Sign Life-Size Cut-Outs For Charity Auction

Hollywood news service ET Online has revealed a charity auction featuring life-sized cut-outs of your favorite stars.

Wall-U is a service that offers personalized life-size wall decals “to bring life to any room”, and ET managed to get celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Mickey Rourke, Colin Farrell, Anna Paquin, Tom Wilkinson and the cast of Slumdog Millionaire to autograph their own likenesses backstage at the Golden Globes last month.

Now those life-size Wall-U’s are up for auction to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. To bid on these once-in-a-lifetime items, just visit eBay before February 10.

5 Friends Voting Video Makes A Comeback

Hollywood is a land of sequels – and so be prepared for another one. Hot on the heals of last month’s 5 Friends video organized by Declare Yourself comes 5 Friends 2.

With only days until the US elections, a new video has been produced to encourage people to get out and vote, with stars such as Orlando Bloom, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Snoop Dogg, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Will Smith, Steven Spielberg, Justin Timberlake, Zach Braff, Colin Farrell, Neil Patrick Harris, Scarlett Johansson, Shia LeBeouf, Tobey Maguire, Ryan Reynolds, and Jason Segal making an appearance.

Along with a selection of people off the street, the stars say exactly why they are voting.

Even Sacha Baron Cohen makes an appearance as Borat.

“What you do inside a voting booth is a secret,” he says as only Borat can. “Nice…!”

And they are not the only ones encouraging people to vote. Zac Efron, Monique Coleman, and the rest of the cast of High School Musical 3 have lent their voices to the Declare Yourself organization with a series of voting videos.

Stars To Donate Fees To Heath Ledger's Daughter

The three actors who replaced Heath Ledger in his final film are to donate their fees to the late star’s daughter.

Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law replaced the late actor in scenes for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after filming was suspended when Ledger was found dead in his New York City apartment in January. In the film, which is slated for a 2009 release, Ledger must visit three different dimensions through a paranormal mirror in a bid to rescue the daughter of a traveling showman who sold his child to the devil in exchange for everlasting life. And although Ledger’s completed scenes will be included in the film, Law, Depp and Farrell will also appear in place of the actor in scenes that had not been shot.

“The great thing about it was when Heath died those three actors came along and saved the day. It’s now four actors creating one character,” said Gilliam. “The three actors were totally heroic coming in because this doesn’t happen very often, where there is a tragedy and very famous and successful actors come in and say OK we’ll do whatever it takes to help. To be part of that is wonderful. They didn’t take money – it goes to Heath’s daughter.”

According to the BBC, Ledger had not updated his will to include his daughter Matilda or his ex-partner Michelle Williams, and his family has promised that the pair would be an “absolute priority”. The stars were reportedly concerned about Matilda’s future, so they decided the money they made for the film should go to her.

“That’s extraordinary! And wonderful,” Gilliam told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “…And when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people.’”

The Homeless World Cup began in 2001 as an avenue for homeless people to change their lives through an international street soccer competition. Five years later, the annual Homeless World Cup has become an internationally recognized competition that improves the lives of many through the art of the beautiful game. Now, with the help of actor/activist Colin Farrell, the whole world can witness this amazing event in a new documentary titled ‘Kicking It.’

‘Kicking It’ follows seven players and their journey to the Cape Town 2006 Homeless World Cup. Homeless players from 48 nations were ultimately chosen to represent their country – coming from such parts of the world as war torn Afghanistan, the slums of Kenya, the drug rehab clinics of Dublin, Ireland, and the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The film, co-produced and narrated by Farrell, was directed by Emmy and Peabody award winning filmmaker Susan Koch.

The Sundance and Tribecca film festivals have both given thumbs-up to this remarkable film which exposes the struggles, hopes and determination of the players who fight for the right to be recognized as human beings, and it could very well be the most inspirational film in years.

Colin Farrell Makes Homeless Man's Year

Four years ago, a radio station in Toronto offered $2000 to anyone who could bring Colin Farrell, who was in town filming A Home At The End Of The World, into their station. The actor himself heard of this contest, and decided to turn himself in – after finding a homeless man to collect the prize.

Farrell was in Toronto again last month, and met the homeless man once more while signing autographs. The pair greeted each other with a hug, and Colin whisked the man, known as Stress, away to Europe Bound Travel Outfitters. Once there the big-hearted A-lister announced, “Get him anything he wants.”

Stress and Colin chose a coat, a down sleeping bag and a rolling backpack stuffed with socks, boots and underwear. But Stress won’t be using that sleeping bag on the street. After shopping, Farrell arranged one year’s accommodation for the now formerly-homeless man, and gave him a wad of money from the nearest ATM to help him get started.

“I’m all set up,” says Stress, a tad frazzled. “This is my chance to get off the street.”
