Agassi Lines Up Grand Slam for Children

Dane Cook, Daughtry, Tim McGraw and Brian McKnight will headline the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation’s 2009 Grand Slam for Children benefit concert.

The 14th annual concert boasts Grammy award-winning producer, arranger and composer David Foster as Musical Director, and Andre Agassi will be there to host the event.

“Each year, the stars align and donate their talents to celebrate our achievements and support our work in education,” said Agassi. “This year’s Grand Slam for Children promises to be an incredible night of entertainment that benefits Agassi Prep and allows us to create opportunities that change children’s lives.”

The Grand Slam events have raised nearly $75 million since 1995 to support a movement that’s improving education for all children.

Now in its 14th year, the Grand Slam brings together international stars – from music to comedy – to build awareness and raise money for the Andre Agassi Foundation. Dedicated to transforming education, the Foundation opened the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in 2001; in 2009 the public charter school graduated its first senior class with 100 percent of graduates going on to higher education opportunities. The Foundation’s work is directly impacting students in Las Vegas, Agassi’s hometown community, but it has broader implications for education nationwide, as the Foundation works to increase investment in, and accountability for, public schools.

This year’s Grand Slam for Children, sponsored by Genworth Financial, will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Wynn Las Vegas. The evening will include a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, live auction and benefit concert. Sponsorships for the Grand Slam for Children are still available at the following levels: Gold $17,500, Platinum $40,000 and Diamond $85,000. Individual seats are also available in sets of two; at the Gold level for $3,500 and at the Platinum level for $8,000.

Charity Reigns Backstage At Teenage Choice Awards

The Teenage Choice Awards held in LA over the weekend were not just a chance for some of today’s hottest stars to show their stuff on stage – backstage there was more fun, all in the name of charity.

Celebrities such as Britney Spears, Jordin Sparks, George Lopez, Kat Von D, Lil Mama, Brenda Song, Keke Palmer, Dane Cook, Shawn Johnson, Jennifer Stone, and Taboo, will.i.am and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas all stopped by to sign backpacks which are to be donated to City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution that is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases, guided by a compassionate patient-centered philosophy, and supported by a national foundation of humanitarian philanthropy.

Stars also played a celebrity version of Bop It – the game that tests a player’s mental and physical skill by having the player follow verbal directions given by the game at faster and faster pace. Celebrities lined up for the challenge, with the winner – Shailene Woodley from ABC’s The Secret Life of an American Teenager – picking up the top prize of $10,000 for the charity of her choice.

Beyoncé Gets Help from Her Sister For Charity Concert

Beyoncé Knowles will join her sister Solange on stage next week for a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Ike.

The Hope For The Holidays concert will take place at the Houston House of Blues on December 9, with proceeds being distributed by the Survivor Foundation to hurricane victims in Texas.

‘It is an honor for our family to be able to give back to our hometown with a holiday concert that will air on Fuse,’ said the sisters’ father and manager Mathew Knowles. ‘Tina [their mother] grew up in Galveston and still has family and friends there, and we’re fortunate to bring Beyonce and Solange together to support the efforts of The Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund through the Survivor Foundation.’

The one hour concert special will premiere exclusively on Fuse on Sunday, December 21st, at 10PM ET.

The concert follows a special gala being held in Hollywood later tonight, December 4. Watering The Seeds of Life: A Benefit for the Victims of Hurricane Ike will be held at The Kress on Hollywood Blvd. Joining Beyonce at the event are stars such as Dane Cook, Roddy Piper, Ariel Teal Toombs, Tom Green, Ryan Cabrera, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Randy Jackson, Josh Henderson, Jay Advis, Alan Thicke and many others.

Alba, Cook Raise $260K for Variety

A Knoxville screening of “Good Luck Chuck” has benefitted the children’s charity Variety of Eastern Tennessee, thanks to the presence of Jessica Alba and Dane Cook. Fans paid $75 to attend the screening and see the actors, raising a total of $260,000 to help disabled children.

The Variety charity screenings began in 2003 with “Radio” and Cuba Gooding Jr., and “Walking Tall” raised funds the following year. 2005 saw “The Dukes of Hazzard” with Jessica Simpson, Seann William Scott and Knoxville native Johnny Knoxville, and last year’s benefit featured “Talladega Nights” with Will Ferrell. Altogether, nearly $1 million has been raised by the screenings.

The funds are used to purchase mobility equipment for children with physical disabilities and are also shared with other children’s agencies such as Second Harvest, Tennessee School for the Deaf and the Empty Stocking Fund.
