Skateboarder Tony Hawk is to hold a family festival in Las Vegas that features music, action sports, and a unique auction to benefit at-risk youth.

The Las Vegas Strip has seen some incredible productions over the years, but Saturday, November 7 will mark the first time the world of action-sports descends upon the Wynn Las Vegas resort for a day of fun and festivities for the whole family, all to benefit an important cause.

Eyebrows of rare book and signature collectors will rise this fall when an extraordinary collection with a tender mission will be available for an online auction beginning November 9-24, 2009.

Dubbed The Little Auction That Could, the 70+ collection includes signatures from some of the most iconic figures of our time, including President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, JK Rowling and Tiger Woods.

Passionate about education and literacy, volunteer mom Karla Preissman wanted to foster a love of reading among children living at Jensen Beach, Florida-based Hibiscus Children’s Center who have suffered from abuse and neglect. First, she helped create the Reef Library within the shelter and filled it with hundreds of books and resources. But that wasn’t enough…she wanted to make sure that these resources would be replenished and the library maintained and supported by staff that would help make literacy a key component to the healing received at the foster care center.

She came up with an idea. Why not ask famous people what books inspired them as a child and ask them to simply sign their names in a copy that would be auctioned for the benefit of Hibiscus Children’s Center? What started off as a simple request has mushroomed into a wildly varied and fascinating glimpse of what some of the most famous people on the planet believed to be a motivating book from childhood. Other iconic figures, such as President Barack Obama, signed a book symbolic of his time in office—a first edition pop-up White House children’s book.

Author and poet Maya Angelou submitted three signed books, one coming from her personal library called Story of Phillis Wheatley detailing the life of a slave turned poet during the American Revolution. How do you place a value on a collectible item like that?

Jamie Lee Curtis To Celebrate A Dream Halloween For Charity

The Children Affected by AIDS Foundation will hold its annual Dream Halloween event in LA this week, and Jamie Lee Curtis will be there to celebrate.

The 16th annual event will be held at the Santa Monica Air Center on October 24, and will feature a whole bunch of your favorite stars – including Jason Priestley, Doris Roberts and Melina Kanakaredes – in weird, whacky, and hopefully scary costumes as they celebrate the season to be frightened.

There will also be a special auction, featuring shoes worn by Candice Wiggins of the Minnesota Lynx and much more.

“World-wide there are more than two million children living with HIV and an additional 15 million who have been orphaned due to AIDS,” said Joe Cristina, founder of CAAF. “Events like Dream Halloween Los Angeles allow us to raise critical funds to support these children in need. Actresses To Be Honored For Sports And Charity

As previously reported by Look To The Stars, the 2009 Celebrity & Stuntwomen’s Awards and the Diamond in the RAW Foundation have announced two-time Golden Globe winner Jamie Lee Curtis and Super Middleweight Champion Laila Ali among top honorees. Curtis will be awarded the Action Icon Award for her achievements in film and Ali will be awarded the Dare2bDifferent Award for her achievements in sports and her involvement in charity work.

“In its second year, The Celebrity & Stuntwomen’s Awards will honor the fearless and outstanding achievements of action-oriented women within the entertainment industry and stunt community,” stated La Faye Baker, stuntwoman and co-creator of The Celebrity & Stuntwomen’s Awards. “We are excited to have Jamie Lee Curtis and Laila Ali among our top honorees, as well as several other outstanding women from the stunt community.”

What A Pair! Stars Come Together For Charity Show

A host of stars will join together to bring the 7th annual What A Pair! show to the stage this month to raise money for charity.

What A Pair! is a One-Night-Only show that will bring together pairings of stars from television, film and music for an amazing night of performances.

The annual show has raised over $2 million in the past for breast cancer research, and has featured cast members such as Jessica Biel, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rita Wilson and many more.

“We are so thankful for What A Pair! and their continued support of the John Wayne Cancer Institute at the Saint John’s Health Center,” said Dr Armando Giuliano, Chief of Science and Medicine at the Institute. “These funds allow our doctors and scientists to continue leading-edge research, improving the quality of life for all women afflicted with this terrible disease.”

This year’s show, to be held at Sanya Monica’s new Broad Stage on September 26, will feature Joely Fisher, Deborah Gibson, Samantha Harris, Kate Flannery and many more.

“Women who battle breast cancer face their fear every day by getting up and doing the treatment and facing the disease head on,” said Jamie Lee Curtis. “I figure that if they can face their fear head on, then so can I – my fear being singing in public!”

The American Red Cross is pleased to announce five new additions to its National Celebrity Cabinet, a group of celebrity supporters who promote Red Cross services by donating their time, helping neighbors prepare for emergencies, responding to disasters and lending a helping hand to those in need.

New members to the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet include country singer and professional ballroom dancer Julianne Hough, Tony Award-winner and actress Anika Noni Rose, who lends her voice to the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures animated comedy adventure “The Princess and the Frog” and appears in the HBO/Anthony Minghella television drama series,“#1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”, Hollywood Records artist and Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, who is supporting disaster relief via a Text 2 Help campaign throughout her summer tour, actress Sally Pressman from Lifetime’s “Army Wives” who will be supporting Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces, and actress Amanda Peet.

The Diamond in the RAW Foundation has announced The Stuntwomen’s Awards 2009 honorees. In its second year, The Stuntwomen’s Awards will honor the fearless and outstanding achievements of action-oriented women within the entertainment industry and stunt community.

Toys R Us and Save the Children are to launch a new charity auction featuring baby blankets designed by your favorite celebrities.

The Bundled In Hope auction is set to launch on Mother’s Day – May 10 – and run until July 11. It aims to raise money to provide baby blankets for impoverished children in the US and support families in need.

Celebrities who have designed blankets for the auction include Marcia Cross, Isla Fisher, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Lee Curtis, Julianne Moore and Jennie Garth.

Premier charity auction site Clothes Off Our Back is hosting two very special celebrity auctions for Feeding America… and one only has a few hours left to run.

Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk raised over $1 million for charity on Sunday, November 9, at the 5th annual Acitivision Presents Stand Up for Skateparks event in Beverly Hills.

But Hawk wasn’t alone in his effort – he was joined by a number of his celebrity friends, including Shaun White, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis, David Spade, Perry Ferrell, Chris "Big Black" Boykin, Kathy Ireland, Bam Margera and BMX legend Mat Hoffman, as well as event benefit committee members Jamie Lee Curtis and Mia Hamm. The one-day action-sports extravaganza included games, activities, a special acoustic performance by Social Distortion, and a Vert Demo on Hawk’s personal ramp.

The Children Affected by AIDS Foundation will be holding its 15th annual Dream Halloween event in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 25. The party follows two similar fundraising events in Chicago and New York last week, and will feature a whole bunch of your favorite stars in weird, whacky, and hopefully scary costumes as they celebrate the season to be frightened.

Hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis, the event will honor Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith, and is being chaired by Wilmer Valderrama, Jason Priestley, Melina Kanakaredes, and Doris Roberts.

This year’s Dream Halloween Los Angeles takes place at the Barker Hangar in the Santa Monica Air Center from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm. More information can be found at the CAAF website.

Stand Up For Skateparks With Tony Hawk

Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk has come a long way since he first landed the ‘900’- a spine-tingling stunt that he nailed during the 1999 X Games. Since then, the man has become an empire unto himself – he’s got everything from an autobiography, a clothing line, a skateboard company, a film company, and even a roller coaster named after him.

But Hawk never lost sight of what’s important and, in 2002, he established the Tony Hawk Foundation to assist low-income communities create well-designed skateboard parks. In four years, the Foundation gave away over a million dollars in grants and assistance.

Aside from being one of the founding members of Athletes For Hope, Hawk has some pretty impressive charity work under his belt. So we shouldn’t be surprised that he – along with Lance Armstrong, Rob Dyrdek, Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mia Hamm, Dana White, Jr., Jon Favreau, Mat Hoffman, Shaun White, Robert Kotick, Bob McKnight, Scott Greenstein, and Ron Burkle – has issued an invitation to the 5th Annual Tony Hawk’s Stand Up for Skateparks Benefit.

Join Tony Hawk and his celebrity friends as they raise money for his foundation via silent/live auctions set among live music, interactive games and a vert skateboard and BMX demo.

The Tony Hawk’s Stand Up for Skateparks Benefit for the Tony Hawk Foundation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 12 – 4 PM at Green Acres in Beverly Hills, California.

Oceana Awards To Honor Clinton And Sting

Bill Clinton, Sting, and Trudie Styler will be honored at the annual Oceana Partners Awards this weekend.

Chaired by Sam Waterston and Ted Danson and hosted by Pierce Brosnan, Ron Howard, and Robert Redford, the event honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions through their personal commitment to the cause of protecting and conserving the environment. Past honorees include Ted Turner, Don Henley, James Cameron, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and Christopher Reeve. Past hosts have included Salma Hayek, Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ron Meyer and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Bill Clinton has been selected as this year’s recipient because his Clinton Climate Initiative – launched in 2006 – works with over 40 of the world’s largest cities to reduce greenhouse emissions. Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, were chosen due to their efforts to raise more than $25 million dollars through 15 benefit concerts for The Rainforest Foundation, which has now expanded to a network of interconnected organizations working in 23 countries around the globe.

The event will take place at the Pacific Palisades home of Jena and Michael King on Saturday, October 18, and will begin with a VIP reception at 5:30PM, followed by a cocktail party at 6:00PM and the awards presentation at 7:00PM.

On Friday, October 5th, (6:30 am – 9:00 am), she will be mentoring the women who participate in the Oxygen Mentor Walk at Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles, CA.

Curtis’ success as a mentor is not only because she is among the best in her field, but more importantly because she finds enjoyment from teaching and motivating young women who aspire to be like her. Successful women in areas such as Advertising, Public Service, Media & Entertainment, and Fashion also plan to attend.

The American Red Cross unveiled their 7th annual National Celebrity Cabinet yesterday, February 28, with 15 new members from movies, sports, and television.

Skateboard legend Tony Hawk will join former Beverly Hills 90210 and Dancing With The Stars alum Jennie Garth, Heroes’ Masi Oka, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, House M.D.’s Lisa Edelstein and Kal Penn, Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz, Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez, Scrubs’ Judy Reyes, Everyone Loves Raymond’s Patricia Heaton, Hairspray’s Brittany Snow, two-time NASCAR champion Greg Biffle, New York Yankee Robinson Cano, NFL star Matt Leinart, and Life Coach Iyanla Vazant in the 2008 Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, part of a mobilizing force to urge people to perform extraordinary life-saving acts in dire circumstances through the assistance of the Red Cross.

“I am extremely honored to participate in the Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, especially at a time when we have the ability to do so much for people around the world who have endured such tragedies,” said new member Jennie Garth. “The Red Cross brings help and hope to those in need and has done tremendous good for so many different people on a global level. I believe this is a time when we can educate others and the Red Cross allows for the opportunity for each individual to contribute to the effort. I am grateful that I am able be part of this amazing organization.”

The 47 members of the 2008 National Celebrity Cabinet will be “on-call” to donate their time, skills, passion, and energy to help the Red Cross highlight their important initiatives and response efforts. It will be chaired once again by Sherry Lansing, former CEO of Paramount Pictures and member of the Red Cross Board of Govenors.

“This is my sixth year serving as chair for the Celebrity Cabinet,” she said. “It’s an honor to be a part of such a meaningful cause with such talented people.”

The Red Cross has benefited from the involvement of public figures and celebrities since World War I, and over the years actors and artists have played an important role in raising public awareness of Red Cross services nationwide. Cabinet members pledge their support for a one year term, although many members of the current National Celebrity Cabinet, including Heidi Klum and Leeza Gibbons, have been involved for over five years.

“The Red Cross is a volunteer driven organization that provides humanitarian help to those in need,” said Klum. “It is an honor for me to participate in their celebrity cabinet and encourage all individuals to become involved with their local Red Cross.”

Members of the 2008 National Celebrity Cabinet will be involved in one of the country’s largest volunteer networks and will promote awareness of Red Cross services by participating in public service advertisements, as well as donating their time, money and blood, aiding in disaster relief, and lending a helping hand to those in need. Returning members include Jackie Chan, Sara Evans (who recently organized an auction as part of her involvement), Jamie Lee Curtis, Patti LaBelle, Jimmy Smits, Marlee Matlin, Nancy O'Dell, Jane Seymour, Peyton Manning, Jimmie Johnson, Rascal Flatts, Julianne Moore, George Foreman, Marcia Gay Harden, Elisabeth Rohm, Eli Manning, Daddy Yankee, Chayanne, Aisha Tyler, Pierce Brosnan, Amy Grant, Miley Ray Cyrus, Kristen Bell, Pat Green, Dwayne Johnson (AKA The Rock), Dr. Phil McGraw, Raven Symone, Niki Taylor, Burney Lamar, and Bradley Whitford.

The American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet was developed in 2002 as part of the Entertainment Outreach Program.

A charity venture with a difference, involving the voice over talents of some of Hollywood’s biggest names, is to hit the internet in the next few months.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Bob Saget are among a group of celebrities to lend their voices to a new PC game being developed by Legacy Interactive and Animax Entertainment. The Tuttles’ Madcap Misadventures is an initiative of the Starlight Children's Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping seriously ill children and families cope through entertainment, education, and family activities.

“Starlight is taking a giant step forward, away from run-of-the-mill charity events into the rapidly growing realm of online entertainment and casual gameplay,” said Patty Evans, Vice President of the Starlight Starbright Foundation, which serves over 180,000 children every month, distracting them from their pain and helping them better understand and manage their illnesses. “This inventive approach gives anyone with internet access the chance to participate together in a fundraising event through online casual gaming. Traditional barriers to charity event participation such as geographic location, cost, and finding the time to partake become virtually obsolete.”

Starlight describes The Tuttles’ Madcap Misadventures as “a hilarious arcade adventure about a thoroughly modern family trying to bond on a road trip to see the Amazon”. The 40 levels of side-scrolling action are brought to life by comic book style animated sequences, which feature the voices of Ashley Tisdale, Dominic Scott Kay, Dave Thomas and Dave Coulier. William Shatner is also involved, and plays a character named Vance Shepherd, described as a TV action star whose self-involved persona has been downloaded into the on-board computer of the family’s mini-van.

The game will be available to download from various PC game portals, and is also expected to receive retail distribution in the future. It will sell for $20, with $4.75 per unit going to the Starlight Starbright Foundation.

As a child, Jackie Chan and his schoolmates were given assistance by a Red Cross worker. Jackie is now doing his best to say thank you by raising awareness of the charity’s cause.

Chan is one of the new members of the 2006 American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. Alongside celebrities such as Pierce Brosnan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jane Seymour, he will help the charity by making public service announcements, conducting media interviews, donating time, money and blood, visiting disaster sites and lending a hand to those in need.
