The Jacksons To Reunite In Japan For Charity

Following the success of last week’s Michael Forever tribute concert in Wales, Michael Jackson’s family have announced plans for two very special charity concerts in Tokyo in December.

“If Michael was alive, he would definitely have done something to help the victims of the earthquake in Japan,” said Michael’s mother in London yesterday. “Michael loved children, he would have felt for those children who lost parents or homes.”

The Michael Jackson Tribute Live concerts will feature The Jacksons performing on stage, and will benefit ASHINAGA, a charity based in Tokyo that provides financial support to children who have lost either one or both of their parents, as well as to provide constant emotional care programs at Kobe Rainbow House, which was built in 1999 as the first day care center for orphans in Japan.

The life of Michael Jackson will be celebrated in a celebrity charity concert in Wales in October.

The show was announced at a press conference earlier today that saw Michael’s siblings Janet, La Toya, Marlon, Tito and Jackie – as well as their mother Katherine Jackson – gather at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“We wanted to do something decent and worthy of Michael’s musical genius yet something fun and authentic that you would envision Michael attending with excitement and joy surrounded by talent that he respected and loved,” said Chris Hunt, president of Global Live Events.

Celebrity Guests To Hit Cannes For AIDS Charity

The annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala will hit Cannes tomorrow, May 19, with some very special guests.

Janet Jackson, Brooke Shields, Gwen Stefani, Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich and Patrick Dempsey are expected to be among the guests during the event at the 64th annual Cannes International Film Festival. Other event chairs include amfAR Chairman Kenneth Cole, amfAR Global Fundraising Chair Sharon Stone, Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace.

The annual star-studded event at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, will include a formal dinner and a world-renowned live auction, all to benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. As in previous years, Harvey Weinstein will recruit talent from the room to help with the live auction.

Life Ball is the world’s most extravagant HIV and AIDS benefit held annually in the beautiful historical city of Vienna, Austria. What do Maroon 5, Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce and Spike Lee have in common? They’re three of dozens of celebrities who are concerned about the situation in Haiti and are doing something about it.

This month celebrities around the world are joining forces to launch the “Haiti: Aid Still Required” campaign to raise public awareness and fund the next wave of support for the Haitian people.

“It’s impossible to hear what’s happening in Haiti and not want to help,” says NBA star Blake Griffin. “For a full year they’ve lived through the worst nightmare.”

Sarah McLachlan To Perform At Formula 1 Charity Ball

Sarah McLachlan will perform at a special charity ball as part of next month’s Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The singer will perform at the United Arab Emirates event on November 13 to benefit the Naked Heart Foundation, an organization that provides “a safe and inspiring environment for underprivileged children to play in, particularly in areas such as Russia where play facilities are not state-funded. Through play, children develop their imaginations, their creativity, become physically stronger and more confident and resilient.”

A number of stars are expected to attend the event, with last year’s ball attracting Janet Jackson, Neve Campbell, Marissa Tomei and Jeremy Irons.

Adam Lambert To Perform At GLAAD Awards

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced today that recording artist Adam Lambert will perform at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards Presented in Los Angeles on April 17, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The GLAAD Media Awards elevate and promote fair, accurate and inclusive stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, people and allies that have increased awareness, understanding and respect for the lives of LGBT people. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories of LGBT people and issues that build support for equality.

Successful filmmaker Tyler Perry will be awarded the Chairman’s Award at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.

Chosen by NAACP Board Chairman Julian Bond, the Chairman Award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and phenomenal public service. Past award recipients include: Bono, U.S. President Barack Obama, Aretha Franklin, The Dave Matthews Band, Aaron McGruder and Janet Jackson.

Tyler Perry’s public service record grows every day. Recently, the actor donated $110,000 and a brand new 15-passenger van to the Atlanta-based homeless shelter Covenant House. In 2009, Perry celebrated the centennial anniversary of the NAACP by donating $1,000,000 to the civil rights organization. Ricky Martin Leads All-Star Cast To Raise Charity Cash For Haiti

It has been a busy few weeks for Ricky Martin – last Monday he presented government officials in Puerto Rico a study on human trafficking, and now he is fronting a campaign to help victims of the Haitian earthquake.

The She Bangs singer returned to his native country of Puerto Rico last week to urge the government to act on the human trafficking problem. He presented officials with a study carried out by his Ricky Martin Foundation that pinpoints the country as having a major role in the illegal sex and kidnapping trade.

“This is happening on our island,” he said. “We cannot turn our back on the victims.”

$1.1 Million Raised At Milan Fashion Week Charity Event

Supermodel Linda Evangelista opened the amfAR Milano Foundation’s inaugural event held recently in conjunction with Milan Fashion Week.

In a moving speech in which she recalled the losses of friends during the early epidemic, she talked about the death of her booking agent. “Those were desperate times for so many of us. I watched him die and helped bury him, not understanding any of it. The fashion industry was especially hard hit by AIDS.”

  The event raised $1.1 million (euro750,000) for HIV/AIDS research, and was attended by many of the rich, famous and fashionable, including Rachel Bilson, Kanye West, Donatella Versace and models Anja Rubik and Chanel Iman.

It wasn’t just about the bling when a major jeweler hosted a star-studded event to launch a line of exquisite bracelets to benefit a worthwhile charity last night.

Stars such as Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Eva Mendes, Fergie, Hilary Duff, and Janet Jackson attended the official launch of the Love Charity Bracelet in Los Angeles, and pledged their support of the initiative.

This year’s bracelets are made of silk cord with different colors corresponding to a selected charity, and feature two links – one white and one rose gold. Janet Jackson Receives Humanitarian Honor

Superstar Janet Jackson was the recipient of a humanitarian award at an event organized by the Lisa Lopes Foundation on Saturday night.

Every year the charity honors an artist that has excelled in community and humanitarian efforts, and this year the presentation was made at the 13th Annual Hot 107.9 FM Birthday Bash at Phillips Stadium in Atlanta. Jackson was unable to attend the event, but accepted the award via a video. Other attendees included Ludacris and Usher, both of whom were past recipients of the award.

Jackson received the honor for her ability to create a global unification through her music and for her community efforts. She has provided global assistance to organizations which focus on children, hunger, conservation and animals, and after the tragic 911 attacks she supported the victims and families affected by the events at both the World Trade Center and the Pentagon through donations to the ClearChannel.com Relief Fund. She also aided the victims of the Tsunami disaster via the American Red Cross. Besides her support toward the on-going efforts of the Lisa Lopes Foundation, she also supports the Orca Network and Feeding America.

Stars Get Behind A Big Problem

Lolita is a 42-year-old living in Miami. Originally from Puget Sound near Washington, Lolita was forcibly taken from her home in 1970 – when she was only six years old – and forced to perform for people who would pay money to watch her. Thirty-seven years later, Lolita is still living in cramped conditions.

Lolita is 22 feet long and weighs 7,500 pounds. She loves being wet, but lives in a tank only 80 feet wide and 20 feet deep at the Miami Seaquarium… a far cry from the wide-open spaces of her home.

Lolita is an Orca – also known as a killer whale – and the campaign to send her home has just hit an all time high, with a long list of celebrity supporters adding their names to a proposal to retire the aging mammal to her home.
