Singers Make Paper Dolls For Charity Auction

Some of the biggest country stars on the planet have decorated paper dolls in an exciting new charity initiative.

Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Clint Black, Tracy Byrd, LeAnn Rimes, Willie Nelson, Jewel, Wynonna, Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Keith Urban, and Reba McEntire – as well as Kid Rock, Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson and Jordin Sparks – are among the 50 singers who have put pen to paper and let their artistic skills out of the closet to design paper dolls, which will benefit Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Through Project Paper Doll, the Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt “reminds us that tomorrow can be a better day – every day – when we all work together to combine inspiration, innovation and knowledge to Make Something Happen.”

Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital is a leading provider of healthcare for children, serving Middle Tennessee and beyond. The 222 bed facility includes a variety of family accommodations and is also a teaching facility, as well as home to internationally recognized research. This year, more than 154,000 children were seen in their clinics, over 43,000 children seen in the Emergency Department and nearly 13,000 admissions to the hospital.

The paper dolls will be auctioned on eBay from November 28 to December 17.

The second annual Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation A Kiss For Country charity auction is now open and ready for action.

Spearheaded by Jewel, the auction – which launches today – features signed celebrity lip prints from country artists such as Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Wynonna and Naomi Judd, LeAnn Rimes, Jennifer Hanson, Emerson Drive, and 50 others.

Bidding is now open at Ubid.com, and runs until December 12. Proceeds from the auction will aid domestic-violence centers across America.

Country Stars Pay Lip Service to Charity

An upcoming auction for the second annual A Kiss For Country philanthropic campaign will see celebrity lip prints sold off to raise money for domestic-violence centers across America.

Singer-songwriter Jewel launched the campaign in August on behalf of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation the Mary Kay company will itself contribute $3 million to domestic shelters in 2009.

Jewel is to finally unveil the lip prints during a press conference on Nov. 11, and the online auction will run from that date until Dec. 12.

Among the other artists helping to kiss domestic violence goodbye are Reba McEntire, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Wynonna and Naomi Judd, Jennifer Hanson and Emerson Drive.

Stars Support YouthAIDS at Company 81 Launch Event

On November 5, 2008, Adam Gregory (90210) and the trendy Santa Monica boutique, Fred Segal Fun hosted a launch event for the clothing line Company 81 to benefit YouthAIDS.

YouthAIDS is an education and prevention program of PSI, a non-profit organization to improve the health of poor and vulnerable people in the developing world. Youth Aids uses the power of music, media, and pop culture to reach over 600 million young people in more than 60 countries with pop concerts and marketing campaigns featuring Alicia Keys, Diddy, Ludacris, Rihanna and Good Charlotte to name a few.

Ashley Judd is the Global Ambassador for Youth Aids and is supported by her fellow celebrity ambassadors, Emmy Rossum, Josh Lucas, Wynonna Judd, and 12-time Grammy winner Juanes. These celebrities have traveled all over the world visiting schools and clinics, raising funds and awareness and providing student outreach, education, and prevention programs in support of the charity.

This night, the stars came out again to support the cause at a boutique that is no stranger to charity or celebrities. In attendance were host Gregory’s 90210 costars Jessica Lowndes and Brandon Michael Vayda, along with Amanda Bynes, Holly Montag (“The Hills”), Jason Kennedy (E! News Daily), and many more—enjoying cocktails and shopping for a cause made possible by Company 81 and the local celebrity, Jackie Brander, owner of Fred Segal Fun Boutique.

As reported by Look To The Stars back in August, singer Jewel is spearheading this year’s Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation Kiss For Country campaign, and the auction start date is getting closer.

The singer will unveil a range of lip prints made by country music’s biggest stars at a press conference on November 11 for the auction, which will run online until December 12. Proceeds from the auction will aid domestic-violence centers across America.

Some of the stars taking part include Reba McEntire, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Wynonna and Naomi Judd, Jennifer Hanson, Emerson Drive, Martina McBride, Clint Black, and many others.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this campaign because domestic violence gets passed through generations, and the only way to stop it is to bring attention to the cause,“ said Jewel.

Sam Moore To Join Country Singers For Charity Gig

Country artists Wynonna, Travis Tritt, Jo Dee Messina, and others will join soul/blues legend Sam Moore on-stage for the “Sam Moore and Friends” benefit concert this March 19 at the historic Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium (formerly the Grand Ole Opry) to benefit the Lili Claire Foundation.

“I am thrilled and can’t wait to see my country friends singing some soul music at the Mother Church,” said Moore. “It will be a night everyone will remember and it is all for a good cause.”

The Lili Claire Foundation was created by Keith and Leslie Litt-Resnick in honor of their baby Lili Claire, who died of Williams Syndrome complications as an infant. The organization offers support in the form of medical and social service to families of children with neurogenetic disorders such as Williams Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, and Autism. The Litt-Resnicks’ goal is “to encourage these children and young adults so that they may discover their innate talents and abilities and live productive, independent lives.”

Every year more than 20,000 children are born with a neurogenetic condition. The Lili Claire Foundation enlists doctors, researchers, and specialists and collaborates with top institutions like UCLA to create medical, psychosocial, and advocacy services through programs such as behavioral clinics, genetic clinics, music camp, autism clinics, sibling workshops, holistic resources, and counseling.

“I am honored to be a part of this great charity,” says Tritt. “It will be a wonderful night.”

Wynonna Judd Performs For Storm Benefit

It was a nightmare no mother wants to see her children go through. But country singer Wynonna Judd had to put her fears behind her as she hid her children in a storage area under the stairs and then had to hang on to their cubby hole for dear life as tornadoes hit their Tennessee home in February.

“Our road looks like a war zone,” said Judd, who headlined a benefit concert on Friday for residents affected by the tornado. “It’s pretty bad.”

The concert, held in Leiper’s Fork, raised more than $17,000 for survivors of the storms, said organizer Lynn Fox.

The tornadoes that swept across Tennessee on February 5-6 killed 32 people and injured more than 190 in the state. More than 50 people were killed across the southern states.

Judd, who lives on an 800-acre farm, said the storm damaged her home, knocked down several trees, and tore off part of a barn roof.

Kissing Violence Good-bye

Country music artists puckered up to create a collection of kissed cards that are being auctioned off to fans on line until the end of this year. The framed lip prints were displayed earlier this month at the 41st Annual Country Music Association Awards.

Stars like Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Jennifer Hanson, Miranda Lambert, Jo Dee Messina, Jennifer Nettles, Tanya Tucker and Wynonna applied their favourite Mary Kay lip product and left their prints on cards that were then analyzed by a “professional kissologist.”

Proceeds are to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation programs committed to ending domestic violence. The Foundation also funds research on finding cures for cancers affecting women. Says “A Kiss for Country” charity campaign spokesperson and country superstar Martina McBride, “Through the kisses of my fellow Country Music artists, we are hoping to help put an end to domestic violence.”

Mary Kay has also pledged, through the Foundation, a $20,000 grant to a women’s shelter in the name of each artist who donated a kiss, and up to $3 million to women’s shelters around the United States in 2008. “With one in three women in this country affected by domestic violence, it is important for survivors to know there is help in their neighborhood,” said Mary Kay senior vice president Rhonda Shasteen.
