Every year the most deserving people in Britain are honored at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards in London sponsored by Littlewoods.com.

The ceremony, hosted by Carol Vorderman, celebrates the achievements of truly remarkable people who make our world a better place.

Earlier this week, former Spice Girl Melanie C took to the stage joining cast members from the award-winning West End musical We Will Rock You to perform a unique curtain call charity collaboration – and was joined by a very special guest.

Introduced by writer and director of the show, comic genius Ben Elton, the performance was part of BBC Children in Need Pop Goes The Musical, a series of West End performances by pop stars to help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

But as a further electrifying surprise for the audience, rock legend, founding member of Queen and music supervisor of the show Brian May took to the stage. He joined Melanie C in a fantastic and highly energised rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions’.

Take That’s Gary Barlow will release an all-star charity single for the BBC’s Children in Need this November.

The single, a reworking of Massive Attack’s 1998 cult hit ‘Teardrop’, is being produced by Labrinth, who collaborated with Tinie Tempah on his massive UK hits ‘Pass Out’ and ‘Frisky’.

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown will take part in the 17th annual Keep LA Running Charity 5K Walk/Run and 10/20K Fun Bike Cruise, organized by the Emergency Relief Fund.

The event starts at 7:30am on Sunday, July 11, at Dockweiler Beach, Playa Del Rey, California. The event is open to everyone, from the serious runner to first time participants. All age groups are welcome. Awards to be given to the top three finishers in each division of the 5K/10K Run.

Joining Mel B will be Zola Budd, barefoot running sensation, 1984 Olympian, and former world record holder.

Beckham is speaking out about childhood poverty after visiting some of the poorest children in America. She said the visit showed her the need for all children to have an equal start in life.

Clay County has a mean income of just under $20,000 per household, which makes it the poorest area in America.

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown recently spent a week with a poor family taping a documentary entitled “Seven Days on the Breadline.” She is now urging UK politicians to do more to help those receiving welfare.

She traveled back to her hometown of Leeds, England, where she stayed with unemployed single mother, Elaine Henry, and her five children, ranging from ages 6-18.

Before arriving, Brown knew nothing about the family or the state of the house. She was shocked by how decrepit the home was. She helped the family make the most of the financial aid they receive each week, and also encouraged them to keep up on chores around the house.

World Cup To Begin With Charity Concert

A major charity concert event is being planned to kick off the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa next June.

The lineup will not be released until January, but the BBC has reported rumors that the Spice Girls may reform for the gig, to take place on 10 June at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.

The show will be produced by Kevin Wall – who was behind the Live 8 and Live Earth concerts.

The former Spice Girl and wife of David Beckham was sporting a £15,000 jewelled ring created by designer Stephen Webster. The ring will be auctioned to raise money for Malaria No More, a charity she and her husband work closely with.

“It’s a fabulous statement piece and I’ve loved wearing it, it’s inspiring to see designers like Stephen working the power of fashion to save lives,” she said. "Malaria is such an important issue, killing more children under five in Africa than any other single disease.

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell launched a campaign to help women suffering from gender based violence in Nepal last week.

The Goodwill Ambassador of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, made an impassioned plea for the protection of women as she joined Nepal’s Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, in launching a national campaign to stop violence against women.

“Violence against women and girls is not acceptable in any country; it’s not acceptable in the United Kingdom and it’s not acceptable in Nepal,” said Ms. Halliwell. "Though it’s the 21st century, mothers are still dying in childbirth and subjected to violence within the home.

Joining the British singer will be Joss Stone, 80’s girl group Bananarama, Tulisa Contostavlos from N-Dubz, Jamelia, Bonnie Tyler, and Escala. Sharon Corr of Irish group The Corrs will also play the Pinktober gig on November 1, presented by Hard Rock Cafe and held in aid of breast cancer charity the Caron Keating Foundation.

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has launched a campaign to help provide better care for women during childbirth.

Halliwell joined Sarah Brown – wife of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown – at the UK’s House of Commons on Wednesday, May 6, to highlight a new parliamentary report which claims up to 20 million women suffer serious injuries during the birth process each year.

“Women are at the heart of their families, communities and countries,” she said. “Their health and survival has a huge impact on the economy and the environment, and on peace and stability. This is not about charity – this is about humanity.”

Anyone wanting to get their hands on clothes or memorabilia from the stars should head to a fashion show and auction in Walberswick, near Southwold in the UK, to benefit Comic Relief next month.

The auction will feature items such as a designer jacket owned by Jo Brand, Davina McCall’s dresses, a t-shirt signed by Twiggy, a shrug owned by former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and one of Clive Anderson’s ties. Also going under the hammer are a Bourne Ultimatum DVD signed by director Paul Greengrass and a signed copy of a Gerri Halliwell children’s book.

“There is something for everyone over this weekend from children to adults to enjoy and hopefully people will don a red nose and spend lots of money,” organizer Angie Power told the East Anglian Daily Times. “I have really done a lot of begging and asking for these items and hopefully it should be good fun and will lift people’s spirits in this recession period.”

Brown’s motorbike, grand piano, furniture, clothing and Spice Girl paraphernalia translated into thousands of pounds for the children’s cancer charity. Where every day ten children are diagnosed with cancer, CLIC Sargent aims to provide financial and practical support to families through specialist care in hospital and home.

Brown was proud to contribute to something meaningful, Evening News 24 reported. “The older you get, the more you realise that if people are giving you something, you have a responsibility to do something in return, by lending your time and name and support.”

Robin Gibb To Headline Charity Concert

Former Bee Gee Robin Gibb will headline a special charity concert and gala in January.

The Sunseeker International Charitable Ball will feature a performance from the music legend, as well as from the Spice Girls’ Melanie C, Lulu, Beverley Knight, Georgie Fame, Mark King from Level 42, drummer Kenney Jones from The Who and The Small Faces, Paolo Nutini, Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton and Russia’s number one pop superstar Valeriya. The house band for the night will be Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Outward Bound Trust, a British charity that uses outdoor experiences and challenges to help and develop young people. It is the second year the event has benefited the charity, with last year’s gala raising over US$700,000.
