Nicole Richie Inspires Through Fashion

Setting trends is nothing new for creative director and style icon Nicole Richie. This year, she will inspire more than just fashion through her involvement with QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale. Richie is scheduled to appear in both print and television public service announcements supporting the 19th annual breast cancer fundraising event.

The charitable shoe sale, which is scheduled to be broadcast live on QVC Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 5 to 8 PM (ET), unites multimedia retailer QVC with the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY). Together, the two organizations have donated more than $38 million to the cause. This year, over 90,000 pairs of shoes, from more than 80 brands, will be sold at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, with net proceeds benefiting breast cancer research and education institutions.

“This year I was diagnosed with psoriasis, a hereditary, genetic, autoimmune disease that effects over 125 million people around the world and currently has no cure,” she wrote on her official blog. "On March 4 2012 it will be the sixth annual Walk To Cure Psoriasis and I hope you guys will join me in helping raise funds and awareness for the event. Over the last five years they have raised almost 1.5 million dollars to help research for a cure and there are now 22 walks across the country! They also started the first ever DNA BioBank, which is used by researchers across the country and the money from the walk goes directly to this.

The Girls Aloud star turned solo artist revealed how pleased she is to support Alder Hey when she visited patients on their cancer unit: “I am really excited to be fronting the Clothes Throw 2011 campaign! I’m an avid supporter of Alder Hey Imagine Appeal. I visit Alder Hey and the patients there really touch my heart.”

The Clothes Throw is in its third year but has been able to expand greatly with the help of Liverpool ONE. Alongside Nicola a host of celebrities and retailers have donated clothes and accessories to raise money for the children’s hospital.

Children Mending Hearts (CMH), a national charity organization based in Los Angeles, will join 12 Las Vegas-based child advocacy groups to host its third installment of the traveling workshop, Please Mr. President, in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, September 25th.

This activity-filled event will host more than 1000 at-risk children and teens, who will enjoy an afternoon of arts, crafts, food and fun, and special performances by The Fulcos and Kristy Kay alongside some of their favorite young stars, including Tate Donovan (The OC), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), Josie Loren (Make It or Break It), Ryan Ochoa (iCarly), Chris Massey (Zoey 101), and Le Reve performers, as well as Francia Raisa (Secret Life of the American Teenager), Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group performers who are tentatively scheduled to appear.

The Desperate Housewives superstar has enlisted the help of the stars to launch TwitChange, a massive online auction that will hit the Net on September 15. All proceeds from the TwitChange celebrity auction will provide AHomeInHaiti.org the means to ﬁnish rebuilding the Miriam Center. The Miriam Center houses, educates and loves on Haitian children with cerebral palsy, severe autism, and other major life challenges and is one of the only facilities of its kind in Haiti. The current facility houses children in the earthquakeʼs aftermath and is extremely overcrowded. These kids need and deserve a permanent home.

Charlize Theron Hosts Charity Dinner For African Outreach

Nicole Richie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Dylan were some of the stars to join Charlize Theron at a fundraising dinner in West Hollywood on Tuesday, April 27.

The stars gathered at Soho House to raise funds for the Charlize Theron African Outreach Project, an initiative created by the actress to create a safer, healthier and better life for impoverished children and their families in South Africa.

“We started [the project] with so little and thought, ‘What is this really going to change?’ And 18 months later I went back and there were about eight faces that I knew we affected and changed their lives,” said Charlize. "For me, going there when we launched, it was eye-opening that the things we take for granted are not the things that you can expect in rural communities in South Africa. Nelson Mandela came out of this area. How can you not invest? I always say even if you can only send two dollars and you don’t think that’s gonna make a difference, trust me, it does make a difference."

Nicole Richie has blogged about her experiences recording the new We Are The World charity single for Haiti.

“On Monday I shared in one of the most heartfelt and inspiring events of my life when I sang alongside nearly 80 musicians and actors in a re-recording of We Are the World to benefit Haiti,” she wrote on her official blog. " It was more than 20 years ago that I sat in the exact same room with my father surrounded by legendary talent for the first recording. It’s definitely a different experience though when you have an understanding of what brought these people together. When I was four I was just watching it and this time I was on the other side actually participating. It was important for me to bring Harlow there because my parents instilled the idea of giving back at a very early age and raised me in an environment where helping others was of utmost importance. This is how I raise my children as well.

“I have included several photos from the recording session, as well as some tragic images of what’s left of Haiti. They’re brutal to look at but I am hoping they will inspire you to help in any way you can.

Miley Cyrus will launch her very own online auction for Haiti on eBay on February 8.

To kick off the auction, the singer has donated the dress she wore to this year’s Grammy Awards, as well as tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her new film, The Last Song. She is also joined by some of her famous friends, including Britney Spears, who has donated the dress she wore to last year’s MTV VMAs, and Nicole Richie, who has donated jewelry. Demi Lovato, Hugh Jackman and Joel Madden have also donated items.

“Ever since the earthquake, I’ve been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti – and I wanted to do more,” she told PEOPLE. “Everyone has been so generous. My mom and I started calling and texting all of our friends to see if they’d like to be a part of the auction.”
