The Killers Release Annual Christmas Charity Single

Every year since 2006, The Killers have released an annual Christmas single for (RED) – featuring collaborations with Elton John, Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant, and Mariachi El Bronx – with proceeds from the sale of the songs going to fight AIDS. And this year is no exception!

For a limited time, you can get one of those songs for free when you add a pledge to your panel on the (2015)QUILT. Choose from ‘A Great Big Sled,’ ’Don’t Shoot Me Santa,’ ‘Joseph, Better You Than Me,’ ‘Boots,’ ‘¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!’ or this year’s song, ‘The Cowboy’s Christmas Ball.’ The songs are available as singles or you can buy the EP exclusively on iTunes and proceeds from the purchase benefit the Global Fund, the recipient of (RED) monies, to fight AIDS.

In 1987, a quilt created by The Names Project Foundation covered the National Mall in Washington, D.C., memorializing those we lost to AIDS. Today, we’re at another defining milestone: by 2015, we could end the transmission of HIV from moms to their babies. Latin Grammy Winners Fight Exploitation And Trafficking

Nineteen-time Latin Grammy winners Calle 13 joined forces with UNICEF, MTV Latin America and Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más last week to launch the MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) campaign within Latin American and US Hispanic communities.

The multi-media campaign aims to reach Spanish-speaking youth in Latin America and the US to increase awareness and prevention around human trafficking and exploitation through creative content, digital media interaction, community events and opportunities for direct participation.

Lured by false promises offering opportunities for a better life, at least 550,000 children, adolescents and youth have become victims of trafficking in Latin America and the Caribbean; often forced into unsafe sexual practices and drug use, they are at a heightened risk of contracting HIV.

Mark Ronson To Host Brit Awards Charity Party

Superstar DJ Mark Ronson will host this year’s War Child Brit Awards afterparty in London on February 15.

Ronson will be joined by special guests during the show – to be held at Indigo2, next door to the Brit Awards’ O2 Arena venue – and previous years have seen performances by Coldplay, Bono, The Killers, Kasabian and Take That’s Gary Barlow.

“Being asked to play the War Child post-Brits show is such a giant honor,” says Ronson. "And since I’m guilty of YouTubing the 2009 clip of Coldplay and Gary Barlow doing “Back For Good” for War Child at least 180 times, I know we better pull off some magical moments."

Stars Love Music, Love Food For Charity

A host of stars have been photographed with their favorite foods and drinks for a new celebrity charity book due out this year.

Love Music, Love Food will feature stars such as Paul Weller (photographed with a latte), Noel Gallagher (a cup of tea), and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers (a mexican meal).

Proceeds from the book will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a British charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. TCT’s top priority is building units in NHS hospitals specifically for teenagers with cancer. As well as superior medical facilities, these units are equipped with day rooms, kitchens and chill-out rooms where teenagers can relax and feel at home or have friends and family to visit in a comfortable environment. There are computers with internet access, pool tables, playstations, satellite TV, musical instruments, and other things teenagers might like to occupy their time with, or share with friends. Most importantly, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation and allow patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease.

The Killers To Return With Charity Christmas Single

American band The Killers released a new single yesterday, December 1, to mark World AIDS Day.

Happy Birthday Guadalupe is the fourth Christmas single the band has released for Bono’s (RED) charity, and all proceeds from the song will go to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

“We’re thrilled to be releasing our fourth Christmas song with (RED),” The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers said of the track. “(RED), through the Global Fund programs it supports, has made great strides in providing care to those affected by AIDS throughout Africa, and it’s our honor to continue to contribute to that cause.”

The Killers Launch Video Against Sex Trafficking

Rockers The Killers have partnered with UNICEF and USAID to produce a music video that dramatically highlights the dangers and impact of trafficking for sexual exploitation, particularly for young women.

The video, for the band’s track Goodnight, Travel Well from the album Day & Age will premiere globally across all of MTV’s properties on-air and on-line on Monday July 13 2009. This video represents the second in a series of music video collaborations to highlight the dangers and impact of human trafficking that launched last year with an award-winning film produced by MTV EXIT for the Radiohead single All I Need.

Stars Duet With Cuban Musicians For Climate Change

Amy Winehouse, The Killers and The Rolling Stones have teamed up with a group of Cuban musicians on an album designed to fight climate change.

The artists will perform duets with Rhythms Del Mundo on the CD, titled Classics, with proceeds from the project going to fund climate change projects and natural disaster relief around the world.

Inspired by the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the album will contain musical gems such as The Killers singing The Eagles’ Hotel California, and The Rolling Stones taking on The Drifters’ Under the Boardwalk. Also included on the album will be Amy Winehouse’s take on Sam Cooke’s Cupid. But perhaps the real highlight will be Fall Out Boy and John Mayer teaming up to cover Michael Jackson’s Beat It.

After attending the annual Brit Awards in London last night, Coldplay raced across town to play a special charity gig with some very special guests.

The British band joined The Killers and members of U2 for a concert at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire to benefit War Child.

The concert kicked off with a loud and exquisitely played set from The Killers, who took the crowd through renditions of songs such as Spaceman and Human. Then it was Coldplay’s turn, who weaved songs from their entire back catalogue into a seamless set.

Rockers The Killers are to join Coldplay on stage for a special charity concert.

The exclusive gig will celebrate the launch of Heroes, the new album that aims to raise money for War Child and features a series of once-in-a-lifetime collaborations between some of the best known names in the music world and up-and-coming stars – a concept that mirrors one of the intrinsic aims of War Child’s worldwide efforts in war zones across the world – to place faith in the next generation.

The concert will take place at the newly renamed O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London on February 18 in front of 2,000 fans. Tickets to the event are £50 and will be available via a lottery system. Bono's RED(Wire) To Launch Next Week

A new digital music service offered by Bono’s (RED) campaign is set to launch on Monday, December 1 – the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.

The singer announced the new system in July, saying: “We are working on [a way that] will help change the way music is received, as well as change the lives of Africans who will die without the AIDS drug that (RED) can provide.”

RED (Wire) will be a subscription-based service that will deliver weekly magazine style installments. For $5/month, subscribers will receive an exclusive song from one of the world’s top artists, a song by an emerging artist, a piece of non-music content called a “Crackerjack surprise,” and stories of how (RED) funds are being used to combat the deadly disease.

The Killers played an unannounced acoustic set at the first of Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions in London on Saturday night.

The British rockers made their surprise appearance at a show that also featured Glasvegas, White Lies and Cage The Elephant. They played 3 songs, including Human, Smile Like You Mean It, and an inspired performance of Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun.

Surprise acoustic performances are a traditional part of Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions. Last year, Bono and The Edge from U2 took to the stage unannounced and played four acoustic songs.

Andre Agassi's Grand Slam A Success

Sheryl Crow, Natasha Bedingfield, The Killers, Lifehouse, Ray Romano, Rod Stewart and David Spade were among the performers at the 13th annual Agassi Grand Slam for Children benefit concert in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The concert raised funds for the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation, which provides recreational and educational opportunities for at-risk boys and girls, and was preceded by an invitation-only concert on Friday that featured James Taylor and Five For Fighting’s John Ondrasik.

Among the 1,900 guests at Saturday’s Grand Slam were Stefi Graf, Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Donny Osmond, comedian George Wallace, and many more.

Brad Pitt Joins Bono's (RED) Campaign

When Brad Pitt does commercials, it is mostly for markets other than the US. But now he is featuring in a homegrown commercial for DELL, in order to join other stars in contributing to Bono’s (RED) campaign.

The highly anticipated DELL computer commercial will be aired during the 2008 Super Bowl in February, and Pitt will donate his entire earnings from it to (RED).

Already in the line up to support (RED) is Joss Stone, who contributed the profits from iTune sales of her video, “Tell Me What We’re Gonna Do Now”, to the initiative. Just ahead of Christmas, Julia Roberts added red leather bracelets she designed with her husband to (RED)‘s product line. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about giving, and there is certainly a huge selection of celebrity designed and inspired merchandise on offer this season. A gift that benefits others may be the best gift of all.

Heading up the list of products being released in time for Christmas is a series of bracelets designed by Julia Roberts for fashion giant Emporio Armani. (RED) is a global initiative founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage the private sector in the fight against AIDS in Africa. UK Comic Relief Raises £40.2m

An eight-hour TV comedy marathon featuring cameos by Tony Blair and Kate Moss has brought this year’s Comic Relief appeal to a close, and the total funds raised to over £40m (78m USD).

Mr Blair played himself in a sketch set at Number 10 opposite comic Catherine Tate’s schoolgirl character Lauren, resorting to her catchphrase “Am I bovvered?”

The “Red Nose Day” TV gala featured other big names not normally known as comedians, including Daniel Craig, Elle Macpherson and Sting, while established comedy stars such as Ricky Gervais and Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen provided laughs aplenty.
