Jennifer Lopez Dazzles At Celebrity Fight Night XIX

On Saturday, March 23, 2013 stars and athletes from around the country converged on the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona for Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XIX.

The evening opened with the singing of the National Anthem by the Phoenix Boys Choir in which a rare Bald Eagle was released into the room. GRAMMY Award winning leading lady of country music Reba McEntire returned for her eighth year as emcee, kicking off the night by introducing a special performance by Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers. With Muhammad Ali on stage, international superstar Jennifer Lopez, actor and musician Steve Martin, and philanthropist and owner of the Washington Companies Dennis Washington, were honored with the 2013 Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night Awards. The awards portion of the evening concluded with a special video tribute to Muhammad and Lonnie Ali from legendary musician Paul McCartney.

Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night Raises Charity Cash

On Saturday, March 24, stars and athletes from around the country converged on the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona for Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XVIII.

Grammy Award winning leading lady of country music Reba McEntire returned for her seventh year as emcee at the event which also celebrated Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday. The evening opened with the singing of the National Anthem in which a rare Bald Eagle was released into the room to the surprise of the audience, followed by a performance from John Corbett.

With Muhammad Ali on stage, NFL Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals, Starkey Labs CEO and Founder Bill Austin and philanthropists and founders of Discount Tire Diane & Bruce Halle were honored with the 2012 Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night Awards. Previous Celebrity Fight Night honoree Bob Parsons, Founder and Executive Chairman of Go Daddy, also kicked off the evening with a special $1 million donation.

The world’s highest selling solo classical musician, Andrea Bocelli, will launch the Andrea Bocelli Foundation with a star-studded event produced by Jo Champa and Studiomusica and presented by the Grammy Museum Foundation on December 9.

The intimate evening will include dinner and a concert by Andrea Bocelli, accompanied by David Foster, Heather Headley and Anna Maria Martinez along with special appearances to be announced. Also in attendance will be Camille Belle, Julie Benz, Michael Bolton, Pierce Brosnan, Natalie Cole, Kelsey Grammar, Quincy Jones, Rachel Evan Wood and many others.

The Andrea Bocelli Foundation will be a grant making body, aimed at supporting those living in poverty or overcoming barriers caused by illness and disability in order to deliver tangible, real life results. Two types of programs will be supported – those that alleviate poverty, and those that help people overcome barriers caused by illness, or disability. The Foundation will actively seek to identify innovative and original projects to support.

Reba McEntire resumed her hosting duties at this year’s Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix on Saturday night.

American Idol judge Randy Jackson had the honor of introducing the boxing legend on stage at the event, while Glenn Frey, David Foster, Sam Moore and Charice provided entertainment.

Among those to receive awards at the event included NASCAR driver Danica Patrick and film producer Jerry Weintraub. A Big Concert For A Big Man With A Big Heart

A charity concert honoring Luciano Pavarotti took place at the site of the ancient Jordanian city of Petra on Sunday night.

The show – which featured many of Pavarotti’s friends from across the music industry, including Sting, Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Jovanotti, Laura Pausini, Angela Gheorghiu, Andrea Griminelli, Cynthia Lawrence, and Roberto Alagna – raised money for projects in Afghanistan run by the UN Refugee Relief Agency and the World Food Program, as well as for the Petra archaeological site 180km south of Amman where the concert took place.

Organized by Nicoletta Mantovani – Pavarotti’s widow – with the support of HRH Princess Haya of Jordan, a UN Messenger of Peace, the concert was attended by 500 guests, including Jordan’s Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

Pavarotti To Be Honored With Charity Concert

Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti is to be honored at a tribute charity concert in Petra, Jordan, a year after his death.

Proceeds from the concert – to be held on October 12 – will go towards projects in Afghanistan by the UN Refugee Relief Agency and the World Food Program, as well as to the Petra archaeological site 180km south of Amman where the concert will take place.

The audience – limited to about 500 people – will be entertained by many of Pavarotti’s friends from across the music industry, including Sting, Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Jovanotti, Laura Pausini, Angela Gheorghiu, Andrea Griminelli, Cynthia Lawrence, and Roberto Alagna. Stand Up For A Cure – a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating lung cancer – is busy with its year-long quest to raise money by organizing concerts, and has just released details of their latest fundraising gig this Fall.

As previously reported, Jerry Seinfeld will perform in a benefit concert on June 2 at Madison Square Garden. The highly-anticipated show will be hosted by Alec Baldwin, and accompanied by an online auction to benefit Stand Up For A Cure.

Stand Up For A Cure’s strategy in eradicating lung cancer begins with the development of relationships. By creating meaningful partnerships with people in the entertainment industry, they gain high-profile artists who donate their time and talent. This brings much-needed attention and funding to their cause. By creating meaningful relationships with researchers, this funding is directed to the programs that show the best results and hope for progress in lung cancer research and improved treatments.

The key, Stand Up For A Cure believes, is in public awareness. Lung cancer research is seriously under-funded, in part because public opinion believes that lung cancer is a smoker’s disease, even though 60% of the newly-diagnosed don’t smoke or have never smoked. Jerry Seinfeld Stands Up For A Cure

They say that laughter is the best medicine, and this June Jerry Seinfeld will prove the proverb when he performs a one-night-only charity gig at Madison Square Garden.

The 53-year-old comedian will bring his special brand of stand-up to the Wamu Theatre in New York on June 2 for a show benefiting Stand Up For A Cure, a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating lung cancer. Tickets for the concert, which will be hosted by Alec Baldwin, cost $350 for general admission and are available through Ticketmaster.

The show will be accompanied by an online auction at Charity Buzz, which will also raise money for patient care, public awareness, and research into lung cancer. The auction will run from May 20 to June 11, and items will be announced closer to the time.

Bon Jovi Headline Charity Concert

Bon Jovi has headlined the first concert in a charity series to raise funds for lung cancer research.

The show was held at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Tuesday, February 12, to a capacity crowd of 3,500, with proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering, a facility that specializes in lung cancer. The Center is also where Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora's father received treatment for the disease before his death last year.

“Cancer is relentless; you can’t stop it,” said Sambora, who opened the concert with a 30 minute set of solo material. “Hopefully this money will help find answers.”
