Stars Donate To Grammy Charity Online Auctions

In celebration of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, the Grammy Charity Online Auctions are open now through Feb. 23.

Presented in partnership with Kompolt, the auctions provide bidders an opportunity to bid on approximately 100 exclusive items, including once-in-a-lifetime VIP experiences, memorabilia from world-renowned celebrities, and official Grammy merchandise autographed by artists during Grammy Week.

Featured items will be available for bid in two cycles, including a 2012 Vans Warped Tour three-day/three-city VIP experience, including the chance to ride on the official tour bus; private guitar lessons with Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Manraze, and Diamond Rio’s Jimmy Olander; and official Grammy merchandise autographed backstage at the 54th Grammy Awards rehearsals and telecast by celebrity participants. Grammy Nominees Album To Benefit Charity

The Recording Academy’s GRAMMY Recordings and Universal Republic Records have joined forces to release the 2012 GRAMMY Nominees album on Jan. 24, 2012.

The 18th edition of the best-selling series will showcase many of this year’s GRAMMY-nominated artists and songs. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the album will help support the year-round efforts of the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares — two charitable organizations of The Recording Academy.

For the first time, fans can have the opportunity to attend the GRAMMY Awards by pre-ordering the album starting Nov. 30. Opening to the public at www.loosenupauction.com on November 24th, the auction is part of Cahonas Scotland’s aims to erase stigma often attached to male cancers.

A portion of the proceeds from Justin Bieber’s new Christmas album will benefit charity.

Under The Mistletoe comes out on November 1, and will benefit two of Justin’s favorite charities, Pencils of Promise and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“Universal [Music] never actually allowed money from the album to go to charity, so it’s kind of a unique thing and I’m very happy and proud of what we’ve done,” he said.

The award recognized Turner’s lifetime of leadership in philanthropy, including launching the UN Foundation and in turn its Nothing But Nets campaign—a global, grassroots initiative to end malaria in Africa.

Rapper 50 Cent is the latest star to donate money earned from a performance for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

“In light of the on-going events in Libya, 50 Cent will be making a donation to UNICEF, which is providing vital relief supplies to meet the needs of women and children at risk during this crisis,” said a rep for the star.

50 Cent performed at a private event at the 2005 Venice Film Festival linked to the Gadhafi clan, and follows other stars in donating performance earnings to charity, including Nelly Furtado, Usher, Beyoncé and mariah Carey.

Usher is the latest star to confirm that money raised from performances for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has been donated to charity.

Following last week’s announcements that Nelly Furtado and Beyoncé have donated earnings from shows to charity, Usher said: “I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Bart’s event that took place on New Year’s Eve 2009. I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations.”

Usher followed his statement by donating to Amnesty International on Friday.

Amid escalating statistics of knife crimes in Britain’s capital – every year sees an increase of 8% – Usher hopes to help mentor teens most at risk by bringing his New Look Foundation to the city.

“We spoke about teenage pregnancy, gang violence, incarceration, isolation – and one very specific thing was knife crime,” the singer told the Standard. "It’s something the kids kept bringing up and obviously it’s a huge issue here.

Former President Bill Clinton will host the third Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) meeting from April 16-18, 2010 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

CGI U attendees will participate in workshops and meetings focused on five main topics that are of particular importance to college students: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. Participants will discuss how student activists can make a difference around the world. Over the three-day meeting, attendees will participate in forums and working sessions to brainstorm ways to make a difference. Two previous meetings were held at Tulane University in New Orleans and The University of Texas at Austin.

Twenty-five years ago, the iconic recording, “We Are The World” generated millions of dollars to help ease suffering in Africa. With a contemporary version of the song being released today to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Coca-Cola will be doing its part to support the cause.
