British chef Gordon Ramsay has created a new range of sources to provide a sauce of funds for Comic Relief … sorry, let’s try that again. British chef Gordon Ramsay has created a new range of sauces to provide a source of funds for Comic Relief.

At least 10p from the sale of every jar of Seriously Good sauces will fund Comic Relief charity projects in the UK and around the world. Available in five flavors – including Bolognese & Red Wine and Spicy Red Pepper & Spianata Sausage – the sauces have taken three years for the chef and his team to develop.

“I’ve seen first hand the difference money raised through Comic Relief can make, which inspired me to get involved,” said Ramsay. “We’ve created a range inspired by the Mediterranean using only top quality ingredients. As you know, I don’t do anything by halves but don’t take my word for it – just put one into your trolley and you’ll be helping Comic Relief.”

The sauces will be sold all year round in supermarkets, with a recommended retail price of £1.89.

Celebrity Chefs Cook For an Army

An Army marches on its stomach they say, so it’s entirely appropriate that on the 2nd October, London’s top chefs will be cooking up a five-course feast to raise money for troops wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Chefs for Heroes gala dinner is being spearheaded by The Lanesborough’s chef de cuisine, Paul Gayler, and dished up by an ‘army’ of chefs from the City of London’s top restaurants including Andrew Bennett (Sheraton Park Lane), Gary Klaner (Landmark Hotel), Martyn Nail (Claridges), Paul Bates (Intercontinental, Hyde Park Corner), Simon Young (The Jumeirah Carlton Tower, Knightsbridge) and Matthew Marshall (Chamberlains Events).

They will be joined on the night by many of TV’s favourite chefs who will host a limited number of tables. Imagine exchanging recipes and pleasantries over dinner with Gordon Ramsay, Raymond Blanc or Heston Blumenthal – all of whom are on the guest list! Other celebrity guests include Graham Wellesley, Jeremy Clarkson and Andy McNab.

Having cooked for Royalty and pop icons such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and the late Michael Jackson, Paul’s team of the finest chefs will be serving up the most sumptuous menu (using only the finest and freshest ingredients) to London’s glitterati in a bid to raise £250,000 for Help for Heroes, a charity Paul felt compelled to help after his son Lee was shot in the leg whilst serving with the Territorial Army in Afghanistan.

Paul says, “The situation in Afghanistan is forever in our minds with casualties reported almost daily in the news. Hospitals like Selly Oak and rehabilitation centres like Headley Court are having to deal with ever-increasing numbers of injured servicemen returning home in need of their care. As a father of a wounded soldier, I will be forever grateful for the brilliant care Lee received at the hands of the Headley Court team.”

Help for Heroes raises funds needed for services and facilities like Headley Court to exist. In the next year, the charity aims to raise £20m to fund seven “Hero Recovery Centres” across the UK, providing homes where the wounded can recover, re-skill, and prepare to return to their lives.

The markets of London are kindly donating the ingredients for the evening’s menu, so the proceeds from attendance go direct to Help for Heroes and the true beneficiaries – the returning wounded heroes.

Bryan Adams Foundation Holds An Evening Of Opera

The Bryan Adams Foundation held its inaugural fundraising event, An Evening of Opera and Picnic, last month on the lawns of The Royal Hospital, Chelsea in London.

The Foundation was set up by Bryan Adams to improve the quality of people’s lives around the world, and aims to achieve this by providing financial help and support to those people who are committed to bettering the lives of other people, by providing grants to finance specific projects.

A 4 course picnic, donated by Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay and eaten on rugs to the accompaniment of music by The Pavao Quartet, was followed by a performance of Opera in the hospital’s chapel sung by the Jette Parker Young Artists from the Royal Opera House, who sung pieces by Puccini, Bizet, Mozart, Verdi and others. Critically acclaimed UK violinist, Charlie Siem, also performed on the evening during the second half.

Adams performed as well, opening the concert singing a duet with the soprano Anita Watson: ‘Love Unspoken’ by Lehar. The evening concluded with a performance of ‘All for Love’ by the entire cast.

The funds raised from the event will support two projects. The Chelsea Pensioners’ Appeal, which is raising funds to modernize parts of The Royal Hospital – a home for around 300 veteran soldiers – and Switchback, which helps young offenders rebuild their lives when they come out of prison.

The evening was sponsored by Phonak, a leading and innovative hearing solutions provider, who are committed to supporting events that celebrate music and help emphasise the importance of good hearing.

The Bryan Adams Foundation was established in 2006, and has given grants to IIMPACT – an organization whose aim is to educate more girls in India – as well as to Brad Pitt’s Make It Right, Build It International, Nordoff-Robbins, the Gaza Emergency Appeal, the Breast Cancer Haven in London and many more.

Gordon Ramsay Decorates Tea Pot For Charity

Ever felt like sharing a cup of tea with fiery chef Gordon Ramsay? Well, this can be your closest chance… with proceeds going to charity.

Ramsay is one of a number of British celebrities who have designed and signed teapots for the Willow Foundation Piece Of Cake campaign. Teapots from Arsenal, Father Ted’s Pauline McLynn, cast members from Emmerdale, Victoria Wood, Shaun the Sheep director Golly Goleszowski and many more are available.

The Willow Foundation provides special days for 16 to 40 year olds that aim to provide young adults living with life-threatening conditions a chance to escape the pressures of their daily routine and share quality time with family and/or friends. Stars Want Bluefin Tuna Off The Menu

A group of actors has written to Robert DeNiro’s Nobu restaurant chain to ask them to stop serving endangered Bluefin Tuna.

According the Britain’s The Telegraph, Sienna Miller, Charlize Theron, Jemima Khan, Woody Harrelson, Laura Bailey, Alicia Silverstone, Zac Goldsmith, Sting, Trudie Styler, Elle Macpherson and Stephen Fry have “written to the restaurant to say they can no longer dine with a clear conscience as long as the restaurant continues to serve bluefin tuna – a species considered by many to be as endangered as the white rhinoceros, panda or tiger.”

The plight of the bluefin tuna has been highlighted by the release of The End of the Line, a film narrated by Ted Danson that shows the effects of overfishing on the world’s oceans.

“The possibility that the magnificent bluefin tuna, one of the fastest creatures on the planet, could be extinct in as little as four years is a tragedy,” wrote the stars in their letter. “Continuing to serve bluefin leaves Nobu vulnerable to public criticism and lagging behind Moshi Moshi, [”Gordon Ramsay":http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/921-gordon-ramsay], Jamie Oliver, Itsu and numerous others. We all love [Nobu, but bluefin tuna] must be completely removed from the menu due to its perilous position as an extremely endangered animal".

“It’s astounding lunacy to serve up endangered species for sushi,” added Stephen Fry. “There’s no justification for peddling extinction, yet that is exactly what Nobu is doing in restaurants around the world.”

A spokesperson for the restaurant said they are taking the issue “very seriously… The consumption of this fish is a cultural institution in Japan and there is still an enormous demand for this delicacy at all our restaurants. In the specific case of the menus at our London restaurants it should be noted that the statement that informs diners that the tuna served is Bluefin was included at the behest of [”Greenpeace":http://www.looktothestars.org/charity/142-greenpeace], with whom we have continual dialogue. We are also currently looking at Australian farm-raised tuna as an alternative."

Jay Leno To Host Charity Auction

Fresh from finishing his reign as host of The Tonight Show at the end of May, Jay Leno will preside over a live and silent charity auction on June 13 to support charities operating in Southern California.

The Vintage Hollywood Foundation’s annual food and wine tasting event will be held at the home of Holly Brooks in Los Angeles and will benefit the Children’s Action Network. Items going under the hammer will include vacation packages, private dinners hosted by top chefs, tickets to the 2010 American Idol final, tickets to Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien and much more.

The Vintage Hollywood Foundation was formed to raise funds to support charitable organizations, both large and small, that work to promote the health and well-being of Southern California’s diverse community. Since 2002, the Vintage Hollywood event has raised more than $1,000,000 to benefit organizations including United Friends of Children and Save the Children.

Celebrities Run For Charity In London Marathon

Tens of thousands of people pulled on their running shoes and sweated their way through the annual London marathon yesterday, including a number of celebrities who were competing for charity.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was one of many who lined up at the start for his 10th time at the event. He ran once again for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, an organization that supports, listens to and helps children, adults and families with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related conditions.

“It’s time for a celebration,” he said. “We’re fighting a global credit crunch, and in terms of coming out and having fun, it costs nothing to come and watch.”

Also competing were British model Katie Price and husband Peter André, who ran for children’s charity Vision and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

“I don’t think you can ever be prepared for the marathon,” said Price, who raised over £250,000 for her charity. “It’s not a normal distance to run.”

“We’ve done the training,” added André. “Physically we may be up for it but I think psychologically is where we struggle.”

Other celebrities to take part included Boyzone singers Keith Duffy, who ran for autism awareness, and Ronan Keating – who ran for Cancer Research UK – as well as British cyclist Chris Boardman, who won gold in the 1992 Olympics and ran for The National Autistic Society, and weather girl Isobel Lang and 2002 Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, who competed for Cancer Research UK.

Last year’s event raised £46.7 million for charity.

Elton John Charity Oscar Party Attracts Big Stars

Elton John attracted more than a few big names to his annual charity Oscar party last night, February 22, with Victoria Beckham, Gordon Ramsay, Katie Price and Kate Beckinsale among the 650 guests.

The party is held every year to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, an organization established and overseen by the singer that funds educational programs targeted at HIV/AIDS prevention and the elimination of prejudice and discrimination against HIV/AIDS, and for programs that provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Last year’s party raised over $5 million for the charity, and this year is expected to have topped that, with a guest list that included Kiefer Sutherland, Sharon Stone, Elle Macpherson and Natasha Bedingfield.

“We give them the best that they can possibly afford,” said Sir Elton before the lavish party kicked off at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. “It’s beautiful inside the tent, the food’s great, everyone will be served the best wines, but they need to be because they’ve paid an awful lot of money for a seat.”

Tickets to the event reportedly sold for $3,500.

Gordon Ramsay Donates Recipe To School

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has delighted children at a school in Britain by supplying a recipe for their fundraising cookbook.

Pupils at Boundary Oak School near Portsmouth in the south of England wrote to Ramsay to request a recipe for the book they were producing, but never really expected a reply. Imagine their surprise when they received, not just a recipe from the Hell’s Kitchen star himself, but also contributions from other celebrity chefs such as Gary Rhodes, Nigella Lawson, Nick Nairn and Phil Vickery.

“It’s been an incredibly successful project,” said Jo Ekin, registrar at the school. “A parent and member of the parent’s association, Sarah Ironside, came up with the recipe book idea. It was thought a cookbook was a nice way of raising some money and something the children could really get involved with. It was then decided to contact some celebrity chefs. No one really expected to hear from them, but we were shocked when they started replying and saying yes. The children were thrilled to see their recipes alongside chefs they know from the TV. If all books sell, we’re set to raise a fantastic amount.”

A fantastic amount is an understatement: the book is set to raise around £2,500 for the school and £500 for the Rainbow Centre, a facility that helps youngsters with cerebral palsy.

The 80-page book is on sale from the school and the Rainbow Centre for £6, with £1 from each book going to the Rainbow Centre. All Saints Get Naked For Charity Auction

British girl band the All Saints have donated a drawing of themselves naked to a new charity auction.

The drawing – signed by all the members of the group – is one of 200 celebrity drawings and self-portraits about to go up for auction to benefit ex-footballer Bob Wilson’s Willow Foundation, a charity set up after the death of Wilson’s daughter from cancer. The organization provides days out for people with serious illnesses.

Joining the All Saints in donating drawings to the auction are Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gordon Ramsay, James Morrison, Bob Geldof, Matt Lucas, Beverley Knight, Martin Johnson, Wendy Richard, Vernon Kay, and many others.

A public exhibition of all the canvases is being held at London’s SW1 Gallery from December 2 to 6. There will be a champagne reception and auction of the top 20 canvases on December 3. The drawings will also be auctioned online at the Willow Foundation website from Wednesday, November 26.

New York Food Festival Raises Money For Food Bank

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray was one of the many guests to appear at the Food Network’s New York City Wine and Food Festival last weekend.

The star joined Jessica Seinfeld – wife of Jerry Seinfeld and founder of Baby Buggy – for one of the many events held over four days from October 9 to October 12 to benefit Food Bank For New York City. The pair talked about one of the biggest health challenges parents face today – preparing healthful, convenient meals their children will actually eat. They shared practical advice for feeding kids and avoiding the common mistakes many parents make when facing down a picky eater.

The festival attracted a wide range of chefs and celebrities, including Rocco DiSpirito – recently voted off Dancing With The Stars – as well as Gordon Ramsay, Al Roker, Pat Neely, Gina Neely, Nigella Lawson, and Anthony Bourdain.

Gordon Ramsay Cooks Up A Success For Women's Aid

A star-studded dinner organised by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana, raised money for Women’s Aid in London last week.

The 41-year-old chef shared compèring duties with DJ Neil Fox at the black-tie event for the Women’s Aid ACT — Until Women and Children are Safe campaign. Among the 300 guests at Hanover Square in London on Thursday night were the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah – who is a patron of Women’s Aid – as well as Elizabeth Hurley, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Trinny Woodall.

Women’s Aid is a national charity in Britain that aims to end domestic violence against women and children. Proceeds from Ramsay’s dinner – an annual event that last year raised over US$400,00 for the charity – will go towards a planned project to improve advice and support for abused women and kids, as well as lobbying for changes in the law to improve the lives of victims.

“We are so grateful to Gordon and Tana Ramsay for generously hosting this wonderful event for the second year,” said Nicola Harwin, Women’s Aid Chief Executive. “This not only raises vital funds for Women’s Aid but also sends out the message that we all need to ACT now to end domestic violence – that is to Admit it’s a problem, Call it by its name and Talk to someone. We desperately need funds to continue in our work to end domestic violence and money raised from this year’s event will allow us to continue in our vital work to end violence against women and children into 2009. Every penny raised tonight will make a real difference to our work and will help us to save lives.”

The sumptuous dinner, catered by Gordon Ramsay, started with a Champagne and caviar reception and canapés, followed by best end of lamb with confit shoulder, spiced aubergine puree and spinach and fondant potato. The guests were then served a milk chocolate, praline and salted caramel parfait for dessert.

“We want to make sure the police, teachers and members of the public are aware of domestic abuse to make sure it does not go unnoticed,” said Harwin. “Women’s Aid has three main aims to help women escape violent relationships — preventing abuse through support and awareness, providing services such as refuges and helplines, and protecting those who manage to break away from their abuser. We help more than 320,000 women each year. With events like this, we hope to [help] more in the future.”

England Shines At Soccer Aid 2008

England took on the “Rest of the World” at Wembley Stadium last night, September 7, in the star-studded Soccer Aid 2008 charity football match.

First organized by Robbie Williams two years ago, this year’s match saw England – Alan Shearer, Kyran Bracken, Ben Shephard, Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston and Williams’ Soccer Aid co-founder Jonathan Wilkes – battle bravely against a World team captained by Gordon Ramsay, Nicky Byrne, Alastair Campbell, Patrick Kielty, Brian Lara, Jesse Metcalfe, and Peter Schmeichel.

The first goal of the match was scored by Teddy Sheringham for the England team just 9 minutes into the game, and was followed moments later by further heartbreak for the Rest of the World when captain Ramsay was forced to leave the field due to injury.

The scores were equalized by half time, but a last minute goal by English team captain Wilkes saw England win 4-3.

Over 40,000 people packed the stadium to watch the spectacle, with all proceeds going to UNICEF’s health, education and protection work with vulnerable children all over the world. UNICEF helps children to survive and thrive in more than 190 countries worldwide, working with partners to provide emergency support and long-term development solutions.

Robbie Williams Returns With Soccer Aid 2008

British pop star Robbie Williams is organizing a soccer extravaganza to raise money for UNICEF.

Soccer Aid 2008, which will take place at Wembley Stadium on September 7, will see two teams of celebrities go head to head in a match of epic proportions. The game will pit an English “All Star” team – featuring Alan Shearer, Kyran Bracken, Ben Shephard, Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston and Williams’ Soccer Aid co-founder Jonathan Wilkes – against a Rest Of The World side that includes Gordon Ramsay, Nicky Byrne, Alastair Campbell, Patrick Kielty, Brian Lara, Jesse Metcalfe, and Peter Schmeichel.

The match follows the first Soccer Aid game played in Old Trafford in 2006 that raised £2.6 million (US$5 million) for UNICEF, of which Williams is an Ambassador. Williams, who captained the England side in the first game, is unable to play this year due to a knee injury.

“Being able to help so many people through Soccer Aid was one of the true highlights of my life,” said the singer. “I’m gutted that this time round my knee isn’t up to it so unfortunately I’m out of the game. But I hope that everyone involved has the time of their life like I did, raises loads of money for Unicef and that the best side wins.”

The match will be televised on ITV in Britain, and will be hosted by Ant and Dec.

Sir Elton John's White Tie And Tiara Party Hits The Beach

Once a year Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish throw open the doors of their exquisite Berkshire home to a sparkling array of celebrities for their annual White Tie and Tiara Ball, and last night was no different as a staggering number of stars filed into the singer’s house for this year’s much-looked-forward-to event.

More than 600 guests turned up to the beach-themed party, each paying around US$6,000 for the dinner, auction, and concert. This year’s performance came from Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, and attendees included Bill Clinton, Elle Macpherson, Denzel Washington, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael Caine, Simon Cowell, Rod Stewart, Mischa Barton, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Gordon Ramsay, Tracey Emin, Roger Federer, Natalie Imbruglia, Kelly Osbourne, and Jemima Khan.

Sir Elton decorated his lavish garden with palm trees and sand for the party, which raised money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Last year’s event raised over $12 million for the cause, and the White Tie and Tiara Balls have made over $50 million since 1998.

Chef Ramsay Appeals For Help

The Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA) is getting a little help from an old friend. Honorary patron Gordon Ramsay will host his Appeal for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association in Edinburgh on June 7 at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport.

“It’s an amazing charity,” commented Ramsay. “But sadly, they receive less than 3 per cent of their funding from the government and have to raise over $987,000 annually to ensure that they can continue to support everyone who approaches them for help.”

A three-course dinner will be served, complete with champagne and dancing, with all proceeds going to the Spina Bifida Association. Last year, on the 26th November, Ramsay made history as he hosted his first ever St Andrew’s Day Gala Dinner, with his wife Tana, in aid of the Scottish Spina Bifida Association. The event raised a staggering $266,500 for the Association.

Celebrities Send Signitures For Charity Auction

Sometimes, if you really believe in a cause and you want some celebrity help, you’ve just got to ask. That’s exactly what Simon McGuinness, a British teenager who recently got a whole lot of star-power behind his mission to raise money for CAFOD, did.

CAFOD – the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development – is a charity that supports communities abroad by helping provide food, water, education and health care, and McGuinness will stop at nothing in his quest to enlist celebrity help for the cause.

“It was just an idea and I didn’t know what sort of response I would receive so I am delighted and surprised to have made such an impact and to find that celebrities do care enough to respond to a boy’s requests,” said the thirteen-year-old. “My next step is to go for the big one, I mean the Queen, but I don’t know whether she is able to do this sort of thing.”

Stars Pound The Pavement In London Marathon

35,000 people set off through the English rain yesterday in the third biggest London Marathon ever held. And a handful of celebrities slipped on their running shoes, polished off their pedometers, and sweated their way along the 26 mile course for charity.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay managed to compete in his ninth marathon with very little of his trademark bad language, and completed the race in just under three hours.

“It doesn’t get any easier,” said the Michelin-star winner, who was raising money for Spina Bifida research. “There were thousands who came out – they were fantastic.”

Actress Amanda Holden – whose show, Britain’s Got Talent, has just returned to TV – also braved the blisters for a good cause. The 37-year-old ran the event to raise money for the Born Free Foundation, of which she is patron. She trained for six months for the marathon, during which she set up a website for people to follow her training and sponsor her effort. She raised over $12,000 from sponsors, including pledges from Simon Cowell ($2,000) and Piers Morgan ($2,002).

Other celebrities puffing their way through the streets of London included Ronan Keating and former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, who raised thousands for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Celebrity Chef Serves Up Charity for Kids

It was a humbling experience for celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay when he met brave children suffering from spina bifida. Known for raising hell in the kitchen, the volcanic star showed a more angelic side as he and his wife Tana played with children during a visit to a charity centre in Scotland. Ramsay vows to work with the Scottish Spina Bifida Association for the rest of his life.

“I flew in from LA last night with all the stresses of filming Hell’s Kitchen and working in the restaurants over there,” said Ramsay the day after his November 25 visit. “But the minute I set foot in the centre, all that was just forgotten.”

Ramsay has been a part of the charity for four years now and finds it to be an incredible experience. He was also happy his wife could behold the children’s zeal on this trip.

“The spirit for life that these kids have is extraordinary. Every time I come here, I tell my wife how much I enjoy it, and now she has finally been able to see this for herself”

Among the children Ramsay spent time with on his visit were twins, Chloe and Jade. Chloe does not have the condition but her sister Jade is paralyzed from the waist down. The condition doesn’t stop Jade; instead, she has pressed on by continuing to practice Taekwondo to the extent of earning a yellow belt, and she also plays the violin.

“Like Jade, my daughter Megan plays violin,” said Ramsey. “So I’ve promised to bring her up here next time so the two of them can play together.”

The twins’ parents are grateful to Chef Ramsay. Likewise, he is committed to raising funds for the charity. Ramsay wants to encourage others to get involved by calling the Scottish Spina Bifida Association on 01236 794 505 to make a donation.

“This charity is my charity and it’s part of my life now. The hard thing is finding half a million pounds a year to keep this place functioning. Join me in making a donation – no matter how large or small the amount, it will help Scotland’s families when they need it most.”
