Rock legends The Who will hit the stage alongside Jeff Beck, Blondie singer Debbie Harry and The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft in a charity concert against cancer early next year.

Charity KILLING Cancer will host the massive concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on January 13 to raise funds for its goal of raising £50m to fund further trials into Photodynamic Therapy, a treatment that can help cure some forms of cancer by killing cells through a combination of drugs and light. PDT is a unique treatment that has garnered support from celebrities such as Robert Plant, Stefanie Powers,Alex Fergusson and many more.

“Robert [Plant] and I had lived through the final months and days of close friends battling with cancer,” said The Who manager Bill Curbishley. “But also fighting to overcome the effects of their treatments. Only later we discovered that PDT could perhaps have saved their lives – and certainly given them some dignity in their final weeks.”

Led Zeppelin Drum Skin To Be Auctioned For Racehorse Charity

Led Zeppelin rockers Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have signed a drum skin from their final 2007 gig for a special charity auction.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the Racehorse Sanctuary, of which Deborah Bonham – sister of original Led Zep drummer John Bonham – is a trustee. According to the charity: “There are between 4000 and 5000 horses leaving the racing industry annually, the majority of which are quite straight forward and make the transition to becoming a riding horse with ease, however, it is the horses that find it difficult that need the facility that the Racehorse Sanctuary offers. So many of these super horses could have a happy and in most cases productive lives ahead of them if they were given the time and expertise needed.”

The item will be going under the hammer as part of a charity concert featuring Deborah Bonham and special guests tomorrow night, November 12, in Surrey, UK. Also up for auction are Paul Rogers signed CDs and a drum skin signed at the John Bonham LA Memorial by drummers from AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns ‘n’ Roses and more.

Robert Plant will team up with former English football star Steve Bull in a new charity initiative next month.

The Led Zeppelin legend will perform at a special launch party for the Steve Bull Foundation at Molineux in Wolverhampton on August 20.

Bull established the new charity to provide charitable support in the form of grants to organisations primarily in the Black Country and the West Midlands which specialise in assisting young people, the disabled, the homeless, the sick and the disadvantaged.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey attended the launch of a new charity job centre in the UK last week that caters for people with learning difficulties.

The RD Crusaders WorkHub has been set up by Norwood, a charity that supports thousands of people with learning disabilities.

The launch follows a fundraising drive that began two years ago, when Daltrey’s star-studded supergroup, The RD Crusaders, played a concert in Old Billingsgate Market to an audience that included Sarah Ferguson and Elizabeth Hurley. Formed in 2003 by Daltrey and newspaper publisher and Norwood president Richard Desmond, the RD Crusaders consists of band members such as Elkie Brooks, Lulu, Russ Ballard of Argent (who was also at the launch), Rick Wills, Steve Smith and a number of others who join for special gigs – including Gary Moore, Robert Plant Gary Brooker and more. The band has raised millions of dollars for charities such as the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Evelina Children’s Hospital appeal and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant will meet and greet fans at a special gig to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

On 25th February Cancer Research UK’s Sound & Vision event will take place at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, celebrating rock, pop, the people who make it and the images it inspires. The event will feature champagne and canapés, access to the recording studios where The Beatles recorded, a stunning exhibition and auction of images featuring iconic musicians by famous photographers, the opportunity to purchase a piece of music history in a live auction, live performances, and the chance to rub shoulders with celebrity guests.

Former Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant has given his support to a cancer charity campaigning for a new type of treatment to be made available in Britian.

Killing Cancer is a charity that is aiming to raise £50m to fund further trials into Photodynamic Therapy, a treatment that can help cure some forms of cancer by killing cells through a combination of drugs and light.

“It really is an injustice that this form of treatment is not available to everyone in the UK,” said Plant. “I have friends currently receiving PDT, but only because we pushed to get it.”

Several of Britain’s most charitable celebrities were honored by the Queen in her New Years Honors List yesterday.

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to music. Plant reformed the 70s rockers for a one-off gig in London in 2007 to benefit the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the U.S, U.K. and Turkey. The organization was established by the late Ahmed Ertegun, co-founder of Atlantic Records.

“During the Zeppelin years, Ahmed Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord,” said Plant, now 60. “This performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long-standing friend.”

Following last week’s announcement that they are to donate the proceeds from an upcoming concert to charity, classic British rockers The Who are offering one lucky fan the chance to roadie for them on their new tour in a special online auction to raise money for a charity that inspires at-risk youth with the assistance of homeless shelter dogs.

Fans are already bidding over $20,000 for the opportunity to join the band on the road and hang out with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend on their US tour. Rock legends Led Zeppelin made a long-anticipated comeback on December 10 with a sold-out charity concert at London’s O2 arena that left fans, young and old, screaming for more.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham, son of late drummer John Bonham, rocked the 20,000 seat arena with more than a dozen classic songs including “Dazed and Confused,” “Black Dog” and “Stairway to Heaven.”

The one-off charity event raised money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the U.S, U.K. and Turkey. The organization was established by the late Ahmed Ertegun, co-founder of Atlantic Records.
