Iconic actor Richard Thomas – best known for his role as John-Boy Walton in CBS drama The Waltons – will receive the Nancy Ford Springer Inspiration Award at the National Meningitis Association’s 3rd annual Give Kids a Shot Gala at the New York Athletic Club. Thomas is being honored for his efforts in the fight against meningitis, a vaccine preventable disease.

Little Black Dress Wines kicks off another year supporting two great charities – Dress for Success and Clothes Off Our Back – through its annual celebrity little black dress and autographed wine bottle auctions.

Bidding begins January 17, just after the Golden Globes. Felicity Huffman Makes Short Film For Responsibility Project

Liberty Mutual’s Responsibility Project – which encourages people to “do the right thing” – has partnered with celebrities, Felicity Huffman and Danny Glover to produce two short films that shed light on the topic of responsibility.

Felicity Huffman is the writer, director and star of “Lesster,” the newest short film from The Responsibility Project. In the film, Huffman is a busy mom trying to teach her son the value of taking an environmental stand while she and her husband are ironically unaware of their own impacts.

Danny Glover directs and stars in “Second Line,” where Glover portrays a wealthy and frustrated businessman who is forced to walk to work after car troubles. The man, who is too busy and self-consumed to notice others, rushes through the streets of San Francisco – finally realizing all he’s missed.

Homeless Not Toothless, the non-profit organization founded by Brentwood dentist Dr. Jay Grossman, will honor actress Sharon Stone, writer/ producer Antwone Fisher and USC School of Dentistry’s Mobile Unit Founder Dr. Charles Goldstein for their continuous support, philanthropic work and inspiration on Thursday, September 10th, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Santa Monica.

Hollywood’s favorite stars including Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy and James Denton, as well as authorities in the Dental and Medical community will come together for an evening of philanthropy, music and entertainment. With music provided by Trevor Hall and Shawn King, much-needed funds will be raised for the El Monte Free Dental Clinic, which will provide almost 30,000 Los Angeles foster children with the required dental work to enter and stay in the school system.

“We have the responsibility to take care of children,” Dr. Grossman explains. “These children who have been pulled out of their families and have no parents to rely on have it hard enough. The last thing they need is not to have access to dental care, and we can provide that for them.”

Army Of Women Fight Breast Cancer

A groundbreaking initiative that will partner women with breast cancer researchers to find the key to what causes breast cancer and take science beyond a cure to prevention has been launched.

The Love/Avon Army of Women – whose celebrity ambassadors include Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Daisy Fuentes, Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey, Danica Patrick, Suze Orman, and Olympic figure skating champions Emily and Sarah Hughes – has been set up by the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Avon Foundation to serve as an online resource providing researchers much-needed and unprecedented access to healthy women — a critical component to prevention research. Spirit of Women Health Network and Carlos by Carlos Santana footwear announce today the opening of bidding for the Spirit of Women Red Shoe Celebrity Auction, an online auction of celebrity-autographed footwear that will benefit several health organizations, including the National Stroke Association and P.A.D. (Peripheral Arterial Disease Coalition). Shoes up for auction were autographed by celebrities including Courteney Cox, Nicollette Sheridan and Carlos Santana.

“While women are typically the caretakers of their families, they often fail to take action for their own health,” said Josh Davis, president, Spirit of Women. “We hope this auction will catch women’s attention by encouraging them to take action for their heart health while simultaneously giving them a wonderful opportunity to raise money for important women’s heart health issues.”
