Sheryl Crow To Headline Tiger Woods Charity Party

Singer Sheryl Crow is to headline this year’s Bloc Party for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

The Block Party is an exclusive event organized to express gratitude to the Orange County community for its support of the Tiger Woods Learning Center and its students. Through intimate musical performances and exciting live and silent auctions, the Block Party has raised more than $4 million for the TWLC since its inception in 2005. The 2008 Block Party raised approximately $700,000 for the TWLC, a 14-acre youth-education facility located in Anaheim, Calif.

Past musical guests include Seal, Melissa Etheridge, Grammy Award winner John Mayer, and Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh of the legendary Eagles. Block Party auctions have featured exceptional sports and entertainment experiences, including putting lessons with Tiger Woods, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, and VIP trips to the world’s best sporting events and entertainment destinations.

Jon Lovitz To Open Comedy Club Tonight

Comedian Jon Lovitz is set to open his highly anticipated comedy club in California tonight, May 28, with proceeds to go to charity.

The grand opening of the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club at the Universal CityWalk will attract a host of stars, including Heidi Klum, Seal, Dana Carvey, Christina Ricci, Lisa Kudrow, Daryl Hannah, John Stamos, Tia Carrere, Gilles Marini, Scott Foley, Paul Reubens, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brooke Burke, Ed O’Neill, Krista Allen, Gary Marshall and supermodels of the co-sponsoring Next Models agency.

The opening will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, a non-profit organization committed to funding research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.

The new 400 seat club will have a beach theme, and will offer two shows a night, drawing upon the wide range of headline comics Lovitz has worked with.

Miley Cyrus To Give Her Time For Heroes

Miley Cyrus will perform at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s 20th annual A Time for Heroes Celebrity Picnic next month.

Over the last 20 years, A Time for Heroes has earned a reputation as a unique event of exceptional quality and entertainment value. Most importantly, A Time for Heroes is a crucial funding source for the Foundation’s programs — raising more than $30 million since the event began in 1990.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is dedicated to creating a future of hope for children and families worldwide by eradicating pediatric AIDS, providing care and treatment to people with HIV/AIDS, and accelerating the discovery of new treatments for other serious and life-threatening pediatric illnesses.

Destination Fashion Attracts Big Names For Charity

Destination Fashion 2009, presented by Stewart Rahr, was a memorable night of music, fashion and philanthropy under the stars at South Florida’s Bal Harbour Shops on Saturday night, March 7, when more than 2,000 of Miami’s finest came out for the star-studded fundraiser to benefit The Buoniconti Fund To Cure Paralysis and raise in excess of $3.8 million.

Multi-platinum recording artist Seal delivered a rockin’ show and The Pointer Sisters performed on the same stage earlier in the evening and wowed the crowd. American iconic designer Michael Kors treated the fashionista crowd to a spectacular runway presentation of his newest collection that was straight from New York’s Fashion Week, with a little Miami fine-tuning. The runway extravaganza was presented by Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour.

Highlights of the evening included The Barth A. Green Spirit Award presented to golf legend Jack Nicklaus and The Buoniconti Fund Award given to Stanley Whitman of Bal Harbour Shops. Event presenting sponsor Stewart Rahr thrilled the crowd as he announced a donation of $1 million to the Buoniconti Fund. Also included in the evening’s program was the presentation of the Women of Substance & Style Honorees, introducing 40 of South Florida’s most notable women.

The list of notable attendees is an impressive line-up that included honorary co-chairs Tommy Lee Jones and wife Dawn and event chairs Nick Buoniconti, Marc Buoniconti, Dr. Barth Green, M.D., Gretchen Jordan, Suzie Sayfie and Stephanie Sayfie Aagaard. Tommy Lee Jones Sets His Sights On Destination Fashion

Actor Tommy Lee Jones made a visit to the Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour store in South Florida this week to help sell tickets to a charity event he is honorary chairman for.

Destination Fashion is an annual event presented by Stewart Rahr to raise money for the Buoniconti Fund To Cure Paralysis, the national fundraising arm of The Miami Project that generates awareness and funds to research treatments and a cure for spinal cord injuries.

“When are we gonna cure paralysis?” said Jones, who has been honorary chairperson of the event for the last seven years. “I don’t know. Will we cure it? Hell yes!”

Destination Fashion will take place on March 7 at Bal Harbour Shops, 9700 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour, Florida. Musical entertainment for the night will be Seal and Grammy Award winners The Pointer Sisters. There will be a fashion show in which designer and style icon Michael Kors will showcase his exclusive Fall 2009 Collection, and the event will also include the announcement of the 2009 Women of Substance and Style Awards, with each honoree being presented by a sports or entertainment celebrity.

“We are thrilled to have the preeminent American Designer Michael Kors show his fashions and Seal as our entertainment headliner for Destination Fashion this year, along with the dynamic Pointer Sisters,” said NFL great Nick Buoniconti in a news release. “Their involvement will certainly drive turnout for this important event, which will in turn raise much-needed funds for our efforts to cure paralysis.”

Rihanna To Play Inauguration Show For The Hungry

Pop star Rihanna is set to perform at Barack Obama’s inauguration to benefit hunger relief.

The 20-year-old has been confirmed to sing at the Recording Industry Association of America’s Presidential Inauguration Charity Ball in aid of Feeding America.

“We could not be happier that Rihanna will be performing at the Inauguration charity ball to benefit Feeding America,“ Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest), told people.com. “Rihanna’s involvement will help raise awareness about the prevalence of hunger in America and help bring more aid to the 36 million Americans who do not always know where they will find their next meal.”

Also taking place on inauguration night – January 20 – is a charity concert benefiting the Creative Coalition, a nonprofit public charity organized by the creative community to learn about pressing issues so they can better inform and influence the community and nation. Performing at the sold-out event are Elvis Costello and Sting, with appearances from Seal, Ashley Judd, Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Marcia Cross, and film director Spike Lee.

Colin Powell Gets Funky For Africa

Christina Aguilera and Seal may have headlined last night’s Africa Rising THISDAY Gala in London, but it was former US Secretary of State Colin Powell who stole the show with his funky Hip Hop dance.

The 71-year-old joined Nigerian rappers Olu Maintain on stage at the Royal Albert Hall for the show, which aimed to highlight the continent’s culture and talents.

“I stand before you as an African American,“ he said before joining the group for their item. “Many people have said to me you became Secretary of State of the USA, is it still necessary to say that you are an African American or that you are black, and I say yes, so that we can remind our children. It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn’t just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains.”

The musical acts were followed by a fashion show featuring Sudanese model Alek Wek and Tyson Beckford and the latest trends from the House of Momo.

“Asia is expanding, it created jobs for people, and Eastern Europeans are doing the same, in my continent – Latin America, it’s happening also – it’s now Africa’s turn,“ continued Powell. “[With] all this wealth creation going on in the world, it won’t happen with just wishing, it will be done with hard work. Africa needs aid, but more than that it needs trade – it needs capital, but it has the same potential as Asia and Eastern European countries. There’s no reason a new Africa can’t be created here and now.”

The concert was the final leg in a four-show series that kicked off in Abuja in July before heading to Lagos and Washington DC, and featured performances from Youssou N’Dour, Jay-Z and John Legend. The shows also raised money for Africa Rising, an organization established in 2006 to reflect the culture and positive attributes of Africa’s social, political and economic progress.

“As Secretary of State, I pushed for support for the continent,“ said Powell. “Aid quadrupled during my tenure. We supported the fight against HIV/AIDS with over $15 billion. However, Africans must rise and take the responsibility for the development of the continent. They must end the wars. They must fight corruption.”

Andre Agassi Grand Slam For Kids This Weekend

Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, The Killers and David Spade will headline the 13th annual Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children benefit concert in Las Vegas this weekend.

“I’m thrilled to have so many amazing performers donate their talents to help us help children,” said Agassi. “We look forward to celebrating with our partners what we’ve accomplished in Las Vegas with the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy and our future efforts to transform public education for underserved children nationwide.”

The concert will raise funds for the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation, which provides recreational and educational opportunities for at-risk boys and girls. The concert will be preceded by an invitation-only concert tonight – October 10 – featuring James Taylor and Five For Fighting’s John Ondrasik.

Celebrities Attend An Evening Of New Dreams

The stars were out – clear and bright – on September 16 for An Evening of New Dreams, raising money for the Somaly Mam Foundation.

Susan Sarandon, Daryl Hannah, Petra Nemcova, Jane Seymour, Ashlee Simpson, Kevin Connolly, Kim Kardashian, Kevin Dillon, Seal, Emily Deschanel, Peter Wentz, and Ron Livingston were some of the stars who came together in Beverly Hills for the gala event which featured musical entertainment from Bonnie Raitt. Catered by Tommy Tang and held at the private residence of Foundation supporters Jeff and Mei Sze Greene, the evening raised awareness of global sex trafficking.

The Somaly Mam Foundation is dedicated to combating the global sex slave trade through the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of victims and through raising global awareness on the issue by funding organizations in various parts of the world that are combating sexual slavery in the field. Named after a survivor of the abhorrent problem, the foundation rescues girls from brothels and offers them shelter and safety, basic education, and reintegration into new communities.

Born in Cambodia, Somaly Mam was forced into a life of prostitution at a very young age, sold by her own grandfather for money. However, after witnessing the murder of a fellow prostitute at the hands of a pimp, Somaly broke free of the cycle and dedicated her life to rescuing girls living in similar circumstances. With Mam’s vision and leadership, the foundation – established in 2007 – strives to get to the root of human trafficking. Their global vision of ending the sex trafficking trade will allow their activities currently in the United States and South East Asia to expand to other countries around the world.

Seal Joins David Foster's Charity Show

Seal and Paul Anka will headline David Foster’s star-studded charity gala on Saturday in Edmonton, Canada.

The concert aims to raise at least $4 million for Canadian families with children in need of major organ transplants, with attendees paying between $15,000 and $50,000 for a table of 10 people.

Foster has a long history of charitable efforts to help children. In 1997 he was honored with the United States Children’s Choice Award for his work supporting research into children’s cancer, leukemia, and AIDS. In 1986, he established the David Foster Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial and emotional help to the families of children needing organ transplants. In 2006, Foster auctioned a piano signed by over 60 celebrities to raise money for his foundation.

Saturday’s concert will take place at the prestigious Winspear Centre For Music in downtown Edmonton. It follows a similar gala held in Calgary in 2007 that raised $3.3 million for the cause and featured Lionel Richie, Peter Cetera and Sinbad.

Elton's Oscar Party Raises $5.1m

Sunday night saw the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 16th annual Academy Awards viewing party, which this year raised $5.1 million thanks to its spectacular guest list.

The Pacific Design Center venue saw even more of Hollywood’s glitterati than anticipated, boasting the attendance of “Best Actress” award winner Marion Cotillard and “Best Supporting Actor” nominee Tom Wilkinson. Further top names present included Amy Adams, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi, Sean Penn, Patricia Clarkson, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford, Josh Groban, Faye Dunaway, Sean Combs, Seal and Heidi Klum, Prince, Kate Beckinsale, Billy Joel, Courtney Love, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Petra Nemcova, Jeremy Piven, Roberto Cavalli, Minnie Driver, Simon Cowell and Herbie Hancock.

The gala was co-hosted by Elton’s partner David Furnish, and included dinner, a musical performance by Elton himself and a live auction.

Sharon Stone acted as auctioneer, and Elton offered to remove his trousers if it would raise more money. Stone added that she wouldn’t follow suit.

Yet more stars seen at the event included Natasha Henstridge, Larry King, Eric McCormack, Jason Lewis, Jonny Lee Miller, Brett Ratner, Jason Reitman, Rupert Murdoch, Jennifer Coolidge, Russell Simmons, Cheryl Tiegs, John Waters and Ziyi Zhang.

Since its inception in 1992, Elton’s foundation has raised more than $125 million to support HIV/AIDS prevention and service programs in 55 countries.

Seal To Headline Charity Benefit Concert

Seal is set to headline the 4th Annual Benefit Concert for
Musicians on Call, an event scheduled to take place at the Hard Rock
Cafe in New York’s Times Square on January 29. Concert organizers hope to raise
money for the charity to continue its work in bringing music therapy into
hospitals, and the show will also feature the sibling country
quartet, Jypsi

The Annual Benefit is accompanied by an auction at CharityBuzz featuring over 100 items, such as a Sting
autographed Fender Bass guitar, front row tickets to see
Melissa Etheridge, a Bon Jovi autographed
acoustic guitar, and VIP tickets to the Late Show With David Letterman. The auction ends February 7, though some items will be
auctioned live at the event on the 29th.

Musicians on Call was founded in 1999 with the mission of
bringing live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in
healthcare facilities to enhance the healing process. To date, their
volunteers have played for almost 90,000 people. Musicians On Call
continues their mission through room-to-room hospital performances by
both local musicians and national celebrities, as well as their CD Pharmacies
and Project Playback programs.

The charity has partnered with Hard Rock International
for the concert and auction, and has raised close to $1 million through
its past three benefit events. Items from some of those past events
include a signed 1952 reissued Telecaster from Bruce Springsteen, a harmonica from the Johnny Cash Estate, a
Carrie Underwood package ( which included front row tickets, a meet and
greet, a signed set list, and an article of clothing worn at her show),
time in the studio with Maroon 5, a VIP Grammy Awards Show
package, artwork from John Lennon stamped by Yoko Ono, and
a signed basketball from Justin Timberlake.

“Musicians On Call’s campaign to bring music straight to the bedsides
of patients in hospitals would not be able to continue to expand
without the donations made at our annual event,” said Leslie Faerstein, Executive Director of Musicians On Call. “It’s an exciting
night made even
more special by a performance by Seal. The impact of this one night
has a profound effect throughout the rest of the year improving the
health and spirits of thousands of patients one by one, bedside to
bedside.”
