Celebrities Face Up On Water Bottles For A Cause

Deeside Mineral Water and charity fresh2o have teamed up to launch an exclusive range of bottled water fronted by celebrities and benefiting a good cause.

Launching this week, the limited edition 500ml bottles will feature A-list stars all shot underwater by renowned photographer Candice. Actresses Keira Knightley and Kelly Brook, model Lily Cole, plus DJ Judge Jules and Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain are among those supporting the initiative.

Sales will help raise money for fresh2o, the charity dedicated to enabling the provision of clean safe water for drinking and sanitation purposes worldwide.

And the stars are in good company as Deeside Mineral Water is a celebrity in its own right. It flows from an ancient healing spring near Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands with health properties dating back to 1760. Celebrity drinkers already include Queen Victoria, Lord Byron and more recently Tom Cruise.

Celebrities Donate Items To Environmental Charity Auction

This year TVE marks its 25th anniversary as an award-winning media charity making films on the environment and development. And to celebrate, they have launched an amazing online auction.

Founded by WWF, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP} and Central Television in 1984, its original advisory panel included Sir David Attenborough, the Aga Khan and Dr Mostafa Tolba, head of the UN Environment Programme. Today tve films are broadcast in 172 countries, reaching 302 million homes via global satellite broadcasts and more than half a billion people on national, regional and local channels worldwide.

The auction launches on Thursday and includes an incredible array of items. Elton John Dedicates Song To Michael Jackson At Charity Bash

Elton John held his 11th annual White Tie & Tiara Ball to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation on Thursday, June 25.

Held at his Windsor mansion, “Woodside”, the party featured entertainment by Justin Timberlake and attracted guests such as Sam Taylor Wood, Damien Hirst, Elizabeth Hurley, Kate Beckinsale, Shirley Bassey, Lily Allen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Natalie Imbruglia, David Walliams, Geri Halliwell, Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor.

The annual ball has raised over £27 million since its inception, with last week’s event raising £4 million.

Sir Elton reportedly was told about the death of Michael Jackson during the evening, and dedicated a version of Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to the singer.

Robert Pattinson Puckers Up For Charity At Cannes

Twilight star Robert Pattinson discovered his lips are worth more than he ever imagined during a charity auction at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, May 21.

Two kisses with the actor were sold for over US$20,000 at the annual Cinema Against AIDS gala for the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

“If it goes well, maybe it will turn to something more!” joked Pattinson when auction host Harvey Weinstein introduced the opportunity.

Other items up for offer at the event included a Segway from Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, and a saxophone donated by Bill Clinton that went for $130,000.

Attendees included supermodels Svetlana Metkina and Lily Cole, actresses Robin Wright Penn and Michelle Yeoh, as well as filmmakers Eli Roth and Lars Von Trier.

Lily Cole Encourages Conscientious Fashion

British actress Lily Cole joined her fellow students at Cambridge University to take part in an ethical fashion show this week.

“As in any industry it’s important to look through the process from beginning to end to make sure we are not producing in ways detrimental to the world,” the actress told models and spectators at the show. “As these labels show, producing clothes with a conscientious awareness of the global impact they cause is by no means impossible or limiting.”

Cole then went on to talk about the importance of the fashion industry using fair trade and organic materials and implored designers to be aware of the way their clothes are made.

Cole has been studying History of Art at the university since September.

Celebrities Paint Masks For African Education

Twenty of the biggest celebrities from music, film, sport and business have painted face masks for a new charity auction on eBay.

The auction is raising money for Education Africa, an organization established in 1992 to assist disadvantaged South Africans in their quest to obtain a quality, relevant education in order to ensure that they are in a position to become global citizens and a competitive force in the local job market.

Up for grabs in the auction are masks decorated by Paris Hilton, Bob Geldof, Stefi Graf, Andre Agassi, Lily Cole, Amanda Holden, Annie Lennox, Piers Morgan, Jude Law, Simon Cowell, Melanie Brown, Lewis Hamilton and many more. The masks will be on display at the chaity’s annual gala dinner to be held at the May Fair Hotel in London on March 31st 2009.

“We have all been overwhelmed by the generous response of so many celebrities to our unique campaign,” chairperson Jania Geoghegan said.

Celebrities Fight Ugly Fashion Practices

Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen, Brit supermodel Lily Cole, singers Joss Stone and Sophie Ellis-Bextor plus a host of top fashion talent have backed the Environmental Justice Foundation’s work (EJF) to raise awareness of the continued use of forced child labour and the ecological devastation associated with cotton production.

The celebrities joined an international roll call of 23 models from 14 different nations including the US, UK, Brazil, South Korea, Italy, Belgium and the Ukraine in a series of photo shoots to launch EJF"s latest exclusive t-shirts designed by Giles Deacon, Allegra Hicks, Zandra Rhodes and John Rocha.

The t-shirts are produced on organic and fairly traded cotton and printed with organic certified inks. All money raised by EJF from the sale of the t-shirts goes to support the charity"s valuable work. The t-shirts are available in ladies fitted and men"s classic styles from £30 on the charity’s website (worldwide delivery).

America’s Karlie Kloss, South Korean sensations Daul Kim and Hye Park, Ekat Kiseleva from Russia and Brazilian Aline Weber were among those who turned out during a week-long photo shoot in New York with top fashion photographer Eric Guillemain. In London, British models Laura Bailey, Lisa B, Jasmine Guinness, fashion guru Louise Roe, top male model Max Rogers and actor Nicholas Hoult also showed their support in shoots with Jane Mcleish-Kelsey, Matthew Eades and Glen Burrows.

EJF works to achieve environmental security and resolve the profound human rights abuses associated with cotton production globally, with particular focus on the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan.

Around the world, whether it is state enforced, or child trafficking, millions of children face severe exploitation in the cotton industry. In Uzbekistan, the world’s 3rd largest exporter of cotton, roughly a third of the population are forced to work in conditions near slavery for the state run cotton industry. Many are children. Schools across the country are shut down for the cotton harvest as children from the age of 7 are sent to work for weeks in the fields, paid little or nothing, but benefiting their repressive government through this forced labour.

Juliette Williams, Programme Director for EJF, says "Even in tough economic times, our buying power can be a force for good. Choosing organic and fairly traded cotton actively supports communities in some of the world’s poorest nations, where fair and equitable trade to the west can literally mean the difference between life and death. Karaoke With The Stars Raises Much Needed Cash

Gwyneth Paltrow might be about to outshine Coldplay-singing husband Chris Martin behind the microphone… but maybe not quite yet. The 35-year-old actress showed off her vocal talents at a charity karaoke show in London last Thursday, after a $90,000 bid prompted her to take to the stage.

The event, held at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, attracted a number of stars to get up on stage and sing their favorite tunes to benefit the Hoping Foundation. Hosted by veteran presenter Bruce Forsyth, the evening’s entertainment hoped to raise $1 million to help Palestinian children.

Paltrow is reported to have sung Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly”, and gained a standing ovation for her effort. Other stars to hit the stage included Jeff Beck, Jarvis Cocker, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Stella McCartney, and Lily Cole.

This is the second year that Karaoke With The Stars has been held by the Hoping Foundation, with last year’s event raising over $700,000 to go towards the community programs the Foundation runs in refugee camps.

Models Support Human Rights Cotton Campaign

Over 20 top models have volunteered to be photographed in cotton shirts made by the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF). Some of the models, photographed in EJF’s ‘Pick Your Cotton Carefully’ campaign t-shirts, include Irina Lazareanu, Coco Rocha, Catherine McNeil, Caroline Trentini, Siri Tollerød, and Behati Prinsloo. The most recent 19 models were photographed by Eric Guillerman.

The organic cotton t-shirts were designed by Luella, Christian Lacroix, Betty Jackson and Katharine Hamnett. All shirts are designed around the theme of “childhood, lost innocence and hope” and represent more than one million children worldwide who are forced to work in the cotton industry. The shirts are only $60 and are shipped worldwide for $10. All profits from the sale of the t-shirt are used to support EJF’s work.

The EJF’s goal is to clean up the cotton industry because “over two-thirds of the world’s cotton is grown in developing countries and the former Soviet Union. Valued at over $30 billion every year, global cotton production should be improving lives. But this ‘white gold’ too often brings misery. Although some progress is being made, the unsustainable, inequitable and abusive conditions under which much of the world’s cotton is produced, continues.” Other supporters of the ‘Pick Your Cotton Carefully’ campaign include Lily Cole, Erin O’Connor, KT Tunstall, and Peaches Geldof.
