Katie Melua Charity Work, Events and Causes

Katie Melua

Katie is an Ambassador for Save the Children. She travelled to Sri Lanka in 2005 to see the work the charity was doing for children in the area after the civil war and tsunami, and the proceeds from her single Spider’s Web go to the organisation.

Katie’s Christmas single raised thousands for the Red Cross, and she spent a day learning life-saving skills with the British Red Cross. Katie said: “I hope I’ll be able to put them to good use if I ever need to. Learning first aid saves lives and anyone can do it!”

Melua sang “Too Much Love Will Kill You” with Brian May at the 46664 concert in George, South Africa for Nelson Mandela's South African AIDS charity concert.

Melua participated in the Band Aid 20 recording of a new version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ to aid Sudanese refugees in Darfur.

Katie has spoken out about the importance of education through the Global Campaign for Education.
