Nominations Open For Big Man Of The Year Award

Before his untimely passing in 2011, legendary E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Little Kids Rock, a leading nonprofit provider of free musical instruments and lessons to more than 100,000 underprivileged public school students across the United States.

Since he received the inaugural Big Man of the Year Award in 2009 at Little Kids Rock’s Right to Rock Celebration, the award has been given annually to artists including Lady Gaga, Steven Van Zandt and Bernie Williams, who have embodied Clemons’ spirit of generosity and service. In an effort to honor his legacy and continue supporting music education in public schools, Little Kids Rock is asking fans to nominate the next “Big Man of the Year.”

“This was something that was very close to Clarence’s heart,” Bruce Springsteen said at last year’s Right to Rock Celebration before presenting the award to his band mate, Steven Van Zandt, who he called, “the last of the true believers in rock’s transformational powers, and what it might do in the world.”

Lady Gaga Launches Born Brave Bus Tour

The Born This Way Foundation (BTWF) has announced yesterday it will launch the Born Brave Bus Tour, which will join Lady Gaga on the road for the U.S. leg of her Born This Way Ball tour.

The pre-concert “tailgate” will provide a space for young people, ages 13-25, to gather and celebrate their individuality in a safe arena where everyone is encouraged to be the person they were born to be. The Born Brave Bus Tour will allow youth to get more deeply involved in the Born This Way Foundation movement while also connecting them with local resources in their communities in an effort to inspire bravery and promote self-acceptance. Guests will join like-minded peers as they enjoy food, music by Lady Starlight, and fun, interactive activities.

For the tour, BTWF has joined forces with several distinguished frontline partners at a national and local level including Campus Pride, GLSEN, Hive & YOUMedia, the National Association of School Psychologists, the National Council for Behavioral Health, MENTOR, Mentoring USA, The Trevor Project and YSA (Youth Service America). Each organization will have an on-site presence, offering visitors access to resources available in their communities including behavioral and mental health services, school psychologists, mentoring, volunteer opportunities and bullying and suicide prevention resources. Guests to the Born Brave Bus will also have the opportunity to learn new digital media skills and to participate in research supported by BTWF.

Lady Gaga Visits UNICEF-Supported School In Peru

Following her Born This Way Ball concert in Lima, five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter and UNICEF supporter Lady Gaga paid a surprise visit to a UNICEF-supported school in Ventanilla District, Peru, on the outskirts of Lima.

The school, Francisco Bolognese, is located in Pachacútec, one of the poorest areas of Ventanilla District, where poverty, violence, mistreatment, gang activities and drug use contribute to keeping many children out of school. In response, UNICEF has been working with the government and partners to implement Child Friendly School initiatives that help keep children in school and provide them with a protective environment. The Child Friendly School model, which UNICEF has helped develop, includes working with parents and the community to provide children and youth with a safe and supportive environment for learning.

Lady Gaga emphasized the importance of initiatives that help children and youth develop to their fullest potential: “All children have the right to feel valuable, and everybody has a shot – but not everybody has a fair shot. So, I think that what UNICEF does is try to make the shot a little more equal.”

Stars Step Up For New York Following Hurricane Sandy

A number of stars have shown they care for the people of New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Lady Gaga has announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross with the following message: “Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion. Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. Also donating money to charities helping victims of the superstorm was Jack Johnson, who has pledged $50,000 to be distributed between Food Bank For New York City, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Save the Children, Waves for Water, GlobalGiving and Direct Relief International.

Justin Bieber To Front Charity Album Advertising Campaign

Justin Bieber is to front the advertising campaign for a new Christmas charity CD being released in New Zealand.

The teen singer will appear in ads for the Starship Christmas Album 2012, which will raise money for the Starship Foundation, the fundraising branch of New Zealand’s biggest pediatric hospital, the Starship Children’s Hospital.

Music industry veteran Paul Ellis worked in conjunction with Universal Music and Starship Foundation to develop The Starship Christmas Album 2012. Bieber’s television commercial will debut in November to support sales of the Starship Christmas Album 2012.

On October 9th, 2012, in Reykjavik, Iceland, Yoko Ono will give the Biennial LENNONONO GRANT FOR PEACE to five activists, including Lady Gaga, Pussy Riot, Rachel Corrie, John Perkins, and Christopher Hitchens.

“Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living artists of our time,” said Yoko. "She is not only an artist, she is also an activist, using her art to bring better communication to the world. She is being acknowledged for her activism, and how her album “Born This Way” has widely changed the mental map of the world. Steve Van Zandt To Be Honored By Little Kids Rock

Before Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band finish the second U.S. leg of its world tour, many of its members will attend Little Kids Rock's 10th anniversary Right to Rock Celebration, sponsored by the House of Marley and 1Love.org.

On October 16th in New York city Steven Van Zandt will be presented with the “Big Man of The Year Award,” given annually to honor the legacy of the late, great Clarence Clemons. Van Zandt joins past honorees Lady Gaga and The Big Man himself. The event is being co-chaired by actress Maureen Van Zandt and E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg.

Clarence Clemons' Legacy Continues For Charity

Before his passing in 2011, legendary E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Little Kids Rock, a leading nonprofit provider of free musical instruments and lessons to underprivileged public school students across the United States. In an effort to honor his legacy and continue supporting the charity, The Jean Shop has been selling leather “Big Man” bracelets online, raising more than $12,500 this summer.

The funds will allow Little Kids Rock to serve at least 750 new children with free instrumental music lessons this school year.
