Bill Clinton has announced the program and featured attendees for the seventh Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to be held September 20-22 in New York City.

This year’s gathering will bring together an estimated 1,200 diverse stakeholders, including current and former heads of state, Fortune 500 CEOs, national and local government officials, and leaders from the nonprofit sector to devise and implement workable solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Since we began in 2005, CGI members have made great progress in addressing critical global issues by making more than 2,000 commitments through CGI that have and will improve the lives of more than 300 million people in more than 180 countries,” President Clinton said. “As many of these commitments come to fruition, I am proud that we will be showcasing the tangible impact they have made.”

Join GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Robert Santelli on May 24 as he interviews the leaders behind rock’s greatest sister act, Heart, in the Museum’s state-of-the-art GRAMMY Sound Stage. Before an intimate audience of 200, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson will discuss their chart-topping career and upcoming new album, Red Velvet Car. After the interview, the Wilsons will take questions from the audience and perform acoustically.

Elton John And Lady Gaga To Join Sting At Charity Concert For Rainforests

Elton John, Lady Gaga and Shirley Bassey will join Sting and Trudie Styler at this year’s Rainforest Fund benefit concert.

The event will celebrate Sting and Styler’s 21st year supporting the work of the Rainforest Foundation Fund. The Foundation was established in 1989 to raise awareness about the need to conserve tropical forests, support indigenous peoples, their land, their rights and to develop resource management. It began its focus in Brazil and then spread throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia.

The semi-annual concert has attracted performers such as Don Henley, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Brian Wilson and many more in the past. The concerts are the main fundraising initiative for the organization, and have raised over $30 million.

Trudie Styler To Fly Water Tanks To Ecuador

Trudie Styler is behind a new clean water campaign in South America.

Styler – who is married to musician Sting – recently visited natives in Ecuador whose water supply has been polluted by years of rainforest devastation at the hands of Chevron. She tells the story of this in a new film called Crude.

Now, her own charity the Rainforest Foundation Fund – along with UNICEF in Ecuador – have joined together to fly water tanks into the worst hit areas.

Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, will celebrate their 15th annual Rainforest Foundation Fund benefit concert, Some Kinda Legacy, at Carnegie Hall May 8.

The Rainforest Foundation Fund (RFF) came out of Sting and Styler’s Rainforest Foundation International (RFI), created in 1989 to raise awareness about the need to conserve tropical forests, support indigenous peoples, their land, their rights and to develop resource management. RFI began its focus on Brazil and then spread throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia. RFF has continued funding the programs and creating new ones to this end since 1999.

To help raise awareness of both the rainforest and the Fund’s mission, the Mayor’s office has declared May “Rainforest Awareness Month” and the Empire State Building will be lit in green Thursday evening during the event.

New Online Game Raises Awareness Of Rainforests

Sting’s environmental protection charity, The Rainforest Foundation, has released a new online game, Congo Jones and the Loggers of Doom. The game, somewhat reminiscent of the hit game ‘Pitfall’ from the 80’s, helps players learn about protecting the world’s rainforests.

The gameplay is simple, and involves working with local rainforest communities to assist them map and protect their land. The mission entails helping a village before the loggers arrive by way of a leaping, red-capped monkey, as well as a waterfall-climbing, canopy-hopping villager. It’s a fun way to spend some time, while still raising attention for important world issues.

“The game presents a very serious issue in an interactive way so that players want to take action to stop the carve-up of the Congo rainforest,” said Helen Brownstone, head of fund raising and communications at the Rainforest Foundation.
