Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is making it known through a humorous home video that on November 19, he and his wife Livia will be celebrating turkeys with “one of the classiest organizations [they] have been supporting for more than ten years,” when they attend Farm Sanctuary’s much loved Celebration FOR the Turkeys at the organization’s shelter for abused farm animals in Orland, California.

In the video Biz ruminates, “Turkeys are intelligent, social, curious, and sometimes even funny. I wish people were more like turkeys sometimes.”

Colbie Caillat Visits Children's Hospital With MusiCares

MusiCares recently hosted a special event with Grammy winner Colbie Caillat for more than 40 children and their families at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.

“What to eat?” It is the question on everyone’s minds at least three times a day — more depending on your appetite — and now a new short film, “What to Eat,” narrated by Jason Schwartzman (star of “Rushmore,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and the HBO series “Bored to Death”) and supported by top environmental organizations including the Sierra Club, Worldwatch Institute, Food and Water Watch, Brighter Green and Farm Sanctuary, aims to show how eating less meat can help lessen the environmental impact of factory farming.

By showing how our food choices have a more serious impact on our environment than the cars we drive, the light bulbs we use or the ways we recycle, the film makes the point that we can all take small steps for positive change.

 The engaging film, produced by Greener Media, puts the viewer in the place of the main character — a relatable family guy voiced by Schwartzman — and follows him through a typical day, beginning with an early morning alarm and traditional breakfast of bacon and eggs, and ending with an epiphany and a surprise dinner that was not on the menu when he first woke up. Viewers tag along as the protagonist navigates his day — the morning commute, the office, lunch — eavesdropping on his often comical — always familiar — inner monologue as he grapples with the universal question of “what to eat.”

Farm Sanctuary To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With The Stars

On “The Biggest Loser,” celebrity trainer Bob Harper helps people lose weight and break the bad habits that are holding them back. On Friday, August 13, Grammy award-winning “Bubbly” singer Colbie Caillat and members of her band, including guitarist Justin Young, took a break from their busy schedule touring with Sheryl Crow to visit the upstate New York Shelter of Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, where they spent time “falling” for farm animals rescued from abuse and neglect.

Colbie and all the members of her band had a great time engaging with the animals and learning about their stories. Later that night Colbie gushed onstage at her concert in Canandaigua, NY, about how wonderful the animals were and how much she enjoyed her visit to Farm Sanctuary!

Bob Harper Is The Biggest Winner For Farm Animals

This Fall, Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, and celebrity trainer and television personality Bob Harper (NBC’s “The Biggest Loser”) will kick off the 2010 Walk for Farm Animals, an annual event attracting thousands of compassionate citizens in cities and towns across the United States and Canada to celebrate and promote compassion for farm animals and raise money to support Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving rescue, education and advocacy work.

This year’s addition of Harper as celebrity spokesperson, a first in the event’s nearly 25 year history, demonstrates increasing mainstream concern about the way animals raised for food are treated on modern factory farms.

“Getting and staying physically fit is a lot easier when you have a powerful motivation, and I can’t think of a better reason to get moving this fall than to raise vital funds and awareness for farm animals,” said Harper, who states that since he adopted a plant-based diet he has felt “more clear headed and strong” and that his genetically high cholesterol dropped more than 100 points. “When I think about the billions of sensitive, intelligent beings who are confined and mistreated on factory farms to produce foods linked with obesity, heart disease, cancer, and stroke — that is all the motivation I need to make healthier, more conscientious choices. Rue McClanahan's Charity Legacy

Farm Sanctuary mourns the passing of “Golden Girls” actress Rue McClanahan, who suffered a fatal brain hemorrhage last week at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. A vocal animal activist, McClanahan used her fame to enlighten people about the plight of farm animals and advocate on their behalf.

McClanahan was well aware of the atrocities committed in factory farms and had been an ardent supporter of Farm Sanctuary since 1996. Most notably, she was the longtime spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s Legacy Society which was established to express gratitude to members who have made a commitment to the organization through a charitable bequest. In addition, she was the host for two of the organization’s major events within the last 10 years. In 2001, along with fellow animal advocates Chevy Chase, Kevin Nealon, Mary Tyler Moore, U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman (D-NY), and others, she hosted Farm Sanctuary’s first ever Gala for Farm Animals at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Three years later at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, she, along with Valerie Harper and California Senator Tom Burton, hosted the SB 1520 victory party to celebrate the passage of this groundbreaking piece of legislation banning the sale and production of foie gras in California.

Russell Simmons To Host Celebration FOR The Turkeys

Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons is to host a very special event for Farm Sanctuary later this month as a compassionate benefit for turkeys – who get a tough time around Thanksgiving every year.

Celebration FOR The Turkeys will take place at Tavern on the Green in New York City on November 22, and will feature guest speaker Jonathon Safran Foer – author of “Eating Animals” – and special guests Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Peter Max and Ally Sheedy.

Celebrities Sign Letter To Stop Tail Docking

An animal rights charity has gathered support from a number of celebrities for its urgent call to end a cruel practice commonplace in the dairy industry.

On behalf of Kim Basinger, Alicia Silverstone, Bill Maher, Bob Barker and a host of other California celebrities – as well as their more than 200,000 members and supporters – Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, sent a letter today to Governor Schwarzenegger urging him to do the right thing and sign a bill sitting on his desk that would end the cruel and outdated practice of amputating dairy cows’ tails.

Both chambers of the California legislature recently passed a bill that would ban tail docking in the dairy industry, but the bill will not become law unless the governor signs it.
