Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an activist and a leader in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s. On January 16th, MLK Day of Service 2012, millions will come together to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. Miley Cyrus and her friends at Youth Service America have 10 ways to Get Ur Good On for MLK Day, and throughout January. Get started!

Create a service-focused New Year’s resolution to honor Dr. King’s commitment to serving others. Volunteer at least once a month, sponsor a kid in a developing nation, host a coat drive, or tutor at an after school program. Write the resolution on a piece of paper and post it somewhere visible to see everyday.

Dr. King often spoke about practicing peace, love, and nonviolence as a means to build a “beloved community.” Share a message of peace in an anti-bullying PSA or music video. Need examples? Amy Poehler, Jessie J, Shailene Woodley, and Bella Throne have all shared great messages.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Miley Cyrus, Get Ur Good On, and Youth Service America are encouraging everyone to take an active role in preventing bullying.

Miley wrote about her experiences being bullied in her autobiography Miles To Go and often speaks out against bullying. There are so many news stories about the effects of bullying on young people; make sure we do not read another story about a young person being physically and mentally abused by their peers.

The first of twelve World Exclusive Charity Black Tie Events – Soirée with Angels – is to be held at renowned international artist Giorgio Tuscani’s L.A. estate this weekend.

Beginning at 7:30 PM, on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at the estate of Giorgio Tuscani in Studio City, CA, “Soirée with Angels” will feature internationally renowned artists Davood Roostaei and Giorgio Tuscani, who, together for the first time, will create a live art masterpiece to be auctioned for the benefit of Youth Service America and Kids in the Spotlight.

These youth organizations are chosen because they not only provide help for the children, but teach them skills that will allow the children to be proactive in creating a better life for themselves. Youth Service America creates a positive environment to encourage and educate youth to become assets, partners and leaders in our communities. Kids in the Spotlight educates foster care children to create, write, cast and star in their own ten minute short film where a select few present “Movies by Kids, for Kids” at an annual film festival. Each organization believes they help boosts a child’s confidence to learn new skills to become successful in life.

Miley Cyrus has recorded a video for a charity-based social networking site which she supports.

GetUrGoodOn.org, the offspring of non-profit organization Youth Service America, is a virtual social network where young people are connected to volunteer opportunities in their communities. Get Ur Good On embraces all kinds of causes and gives grants for young people to take action and get involved in any way that they prefer.

“The mission of the foundation… is [for] kids to encourage other kids not to spend time putting each other down, but to come together and meet through this, and for it not to be about anything else but love and the passion of doing good,” Miley says in the new video. "The biggest way to do that is through the internet. So I wanted people to be on the internet, talking about what needs to be done and what they should be doing to encourage other kids. You can do anything [on the site] that inspires you, it’s what you want to change and what you want to do. It’s kids making their opinions matter and getting out there and changing the world.

Youth Service America (YSA) announces Miley Cyrus will auction off clothing and accessories on eBay March 11 to benefit Get Ur Good On, an online community and partnership between YSA and Cyrus that connects youth to volunteer and service opportunities.

Items consist of exclusive clothing, shoes and autographed albums and DVD’s with proceeds benefiting Get UR Good On programming and youth-led initiatives. Highlights include signed Can’t Be Tamed and Breakout albums as well as Hannah Montana and Bolt DVD’s. The second such auction in a year, Cyrus raised more than $30,000 by auctioning off leather jackets, pictures and similar memorabilia last summer. Miley Cyrus is giving her fans the chance to buy her clothes straight from her closet in a new charity auction.

Set to begin on December 3, all proceeds will go to Get Ur Good On, a social network that brings together children and youth to support each other in the mission to do good in their communities.

Miley Cyrus recently partnered with Youth Service America to create Get Ur Good On, which offers an online community for youth to discover what needs fixing in the world, information on how to get involved, and showcases their work in schools and communities through photos, videos, and blogs. The site links Miley Cyrus’ star power with youth voice, giving kids an opportunity to demonstrate how one person can make a difference.

Help From Houston: Miley Cyrus To Perform At Christmas Charity Event

Miley Cyrus is set to perform at the annual Christmas Cheers and Charity Party hosted by Houston attorney Mark Lanier.

The event will benefit Guatemala SANA, an organization that develops programs to address issues ranging from healthcare and education to the nation’s environmental concerns. For the 7,000 to 8,000 guests lucky enough to receive an invitation, there is a request as well; attendees are asked to bring items from a “wish list” of possible things to donate, ranging from basic supplies to cash for larger materials such as blackboards and septic tanks for schools.

Lanier explained the motivation behind his mission, telling the Houston Chronicle that “We’re trying to get them clean water. We’re trying to get them good schools. And we’re trying to give them the supplies they need to get an education.”

Hannah Montana’s Miley Cyrus is to celebrate turning sweet 16 with a massive birthday bash at the famous themepark, and the young star is inviting fans to join her by paying $232 to raise money for charity.

“The best part of the party is we’re going to recognize some really cool kids from Youth Service America who are giving back to their community,” said Cyrus. “That’s so awesome because I think it’s really important for kids like us to volunteer.”
