Kenny Chesney To Donate Movie Ticket Sales To Conservation Charity

Country singer Kenny Chesney aims to raise $50,000 for a conservation charity by donating a portion of profits from ticket sales from his new 3D concert movie.

Kenny Chesney: Summer In 3D hits theaters in the US tonight, April 21, and $1 from the first 50,000 will go to the National Parks Conservation Association. The money will be used to help fund restoration projects at a number of parks, including the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.

“Any time you can give back or help protect our nation’s parks, that’s a good thing,” he told Us Magazine. “Growing up near the Smokey Mountains — or spending as much time in the U.S. Virgin Islands as I do — you realize what a resource it is for all of us. No matter who you are, what you do, that beauty is all of ours to enjoy — to go camping, hiking, to sail in — and that undeveloped land is a gift. But it’s a gift to maintain. The idea people could buy tickets for my movie, and a dollar from each ticket will help maintain the parks, made me really happy. I know a lot of people are gonna see it, [and] they can also help the National Parks Conservation Association raise $50,000 to get us started on this partnership.”

Walter Cronkite's Charitable Life

Television legend Walter Cronkite passed away after a long illness on Friday, July 17.

The 92-year-old fronted the evening news for American TV network CBS from 1962 to 1981. He was well known for his charity work – he frequently donated lunches and trips on his private yacht to charities such as Realizing the Dream (a charity overseen by Martin Luther King III, eldest son of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and co-founded by former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young), recorded PSAs for the National Parks Conservation Association, and was honored by the Buoniconti Fund To Cure Paralysis, a nonprofit organization that serves as the national fundraising arm of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

“He was the most important voice in our lives for thirty years,” said George Clooney in tribute. “And that voice made people reach for the stars. I hate the world without Walter Cronkite.”

Sam Waterston and Amy Madigan and are the newest advocates for America’s national parks.

The actors generously donated their time and talent to record radio public service ads for the nonprofit National Parks Conservation Association. The ads, launched in late August, encourage the public to sign a petition to the next president and Congress, seeking their support for national parks.
