Stars To Glam Rock For Charity

Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Etty Farrell and Chris Cox (Thunderpuss) will headline a special Glam Rock concert for charity in LA tonight, September 27.

We Are Golden will take place at the Arena Nightclub to benefit LifeWorks, a youth program at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center.

This is a star-studded event with outrageously funny Alec Mapa as host. Jody Watley (Grammy award winning R&B/jazz artist) brings her groove to an exclusive performance for the VIP Lounge. Carmit (solo artist formerly of The Pussycat Dolls) and the Beat Freaks (MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew) amp up the show and keep the audience rocking. Kina (Brownstone, “Girl in the Gutter”) tears it up with an entire Stomp the Yard crew. Experience vogue-ball culture in its most celebrated form as Grandfather Hector Xtravaganza brings together the children of the House of Xtravaganza for an out-of-this-world ball battle to be judged by world-renowned choreographer, Brian Friedman (X-Factor).

Milk Screenwriter To Be Honored By Charity

Academy Award-winning screenwriter, director, film and television producer Dustin Lance Black will be honored at a special gala event in Hollywood this weekend.

Best known for being the screenwriter of Milk, starring Sean Penn, Dustin Lance Black will receive the honor at the New Technicolor Building Plaza at Sunset Gower Studios on Saturday, June 13, in an event that promises to feature a festive cocktail party and silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go to LifeWorks, an organization that offers mentoring opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth ages 14-24.

Look To The Stars had the pleasure of talking to the writer earlier this year about the inspiration behind Milk and his charity work: "I thought there is so much of [Milk] that is inspiring to today’s generation, not just the gay and lesbian generation but also to say to all the groups of people who are very different, we can come together and when we can work together accepting each others differences, and if we fight for each others civil rights we can win all of our civil rights. That is a message I think should be out there. That not only inspires gay kids but racial and religious minorities. If a kid out there can go and see ‘Milk’ and be like “Yeah I’m really different and that’s really fabulous”, then I think we’ve done our job’."

Laugh Out Loud With LifeWorks

An organization that offers one on one, peer, and group mentoring opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth is to hold a special fundraising comedy night on Tuesday, March 24.

The Laugh Out Loud comedy night will benefit LifeWorks, and will be headlined by drag queen Miss Coco Peru, best known for roles in the 1999 independent film Trick and as the voice of Mama Hippo in 2006’s The Wild. Also on the bill are acclaimed stand up comedians such as Alec Mapa, Jason Stuart, Judy Tenuta, Scott Thompson, Tony Tripoli, and Sabdy Valls.

Lifeworks was set up in 2002 to create a positive, non-crisis-based approach to supporting and empowering LGBT youth through mentoring. Their One on One Mentoring Program is a 12-month program that matches clients with adult professionals from the community specially trained to be LifeWorks Mentors. This offers clients the advantage of having a caring adult role model with the age and experience to provide guidance in the achievement of their goals. Lifeworks staff work with each client to develop a Life Plan that includes short and long term goals in five achievement areas: home, health, education, career, and personal development. They then offer referrals and resources tailored to her/his needs, and support the Mentor and Mentee in getting to know each other and in making those goals a reality.
