Scissor Sisters Help Raise £460,000 For Diabetes Charity

JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity, was proud to have been chosen as the sole charity beneficiary for ART ANTIQUES LONDON Party in the Park on Tuesday 12 June where music royalty were in the spotlight in support of type 1 diabetes research when the New York pop stars Scissor Sisters made an exclusive intimate appearance at the dinner event with an acoustic set from Jake Shears and Babydaddy.

Over £460,000.00 was raised at an auction where prizes included a private performance by global music stars Florence + the Machine. Other prize highlights included a once in a lifetime, personalised week at The Masters 2013 for two people, and a sensational weeks stay for two people on the Serengeti National Park with a three night privately guided safari.

Karen Addington, Chief Executive of JDRF said: "We are indebted to the Scissor Sisters who took time out from an incredibly busy schedule to come and support JDRF’s search to find the cure for type 1 diabetes. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to take Royal role in JDRF type 1 diabetes charity

JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity, is delighted to announce that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has agreed to become its President.

Her Royal Highness recently visited a clinical research facility in Cambridge to learn about JDRF funded research to find the cure for
type 1 diabetes. The Duchess also took the opportunity to spend time with young people who have type 1 diabetes and learn how they live with the condition.

Duchess Of Cornwall Visits Diabetes Facility, Meets War Horse Star

The Duchess of Cornwall saw how a charity is working to cure type one diabetes this week during a visit to Cambridge.

Her Royal Highness visited the Cambridge Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility at Addenbrooke’s Hospital to learn more about the work of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

During the tour of the facility, Her Royal Highness met Jeremy Irvine, star of Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse, who has type one diabetes. Irvine attended the event in a show of support. He was involved with trials of an artificial pancreas, which the charity is working on, in 2005 and 2007. He explained how technology helps him manage his type one diabetes while pursuing a hectic film career.

Nick Jonas Announces Simple Inspirations Winner

Bayer HealthCare and Nick Jonas have announced that Christine Burns, aged 19 from Sandy, Utah, is the grand prize winner of “Simple Inspirations,” a contest sponsored by Bayer that invited people living with diabetes to motivate newly diagnosed patients by sharing their most inspirational thoughts about living with diabetes.

Christine will meet international singing sensation Nick Jonas at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Los Angeles Walk to Cure Diabetes, and will also appear in a World Diabetes Day video with Nick to be launched on November 14, 2011 on www.NicksSimpleWins.com.

The “Simple Inspirations” contest was designed to enrich the lives of everyone who has diabetes — regardless of when they were diagnosed — and to demonstrate that people with diabetes can live a full and engaged life by effectively managing their condition. A panel of independent judges appointed by the Contest Administrator and Nick Jonas selected the runner ups and grand prize winner. The 12 runner ups will receive a calendar journal compiling the winning entry and the runner-up entries.

Mary Tyler Moore To Be Awarded For Acting And Charity Work

Renowned actress, producer and humanitarian Mary Tyler Moore will receive Screen Actors Guild (SAG)’s most prestigious accolade – the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.

Moore created a new paradigm for female leads in television, won top honors for her courageous performances in film, television and on stage, produced some of the most lauded television programs of all time, and for thirty years, has served as a tireless advocate giving hope to all those afflicted with Type 1 diabetes.

Moore will be presented the Award, given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which premieres live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT, 6 p.m. MT and 5 p.m. PT.

Trey Morgan's 30 Deeds In 30 Days For Charity

New York City based radio personality Trey Morgan will embark on a journey designed to shock him into a more philanthropic way of life. Over the course of 30 days, Morgan will attempt to commit his time to 30 different charitable organizations, 1 for each day of September, all while holding down his ‘day job’ and making it home for dinner with his wife.

This non-profit crusade is called, 30 Deeds, 30 Days, a term Morgan coined for it’s obvious simplicity.

Trey Morgan, a well known radio personality for New York City’s Z100, came up with the idea for 30 Deeds, 30 Days while feeling much the same as many around the country. Morgan wanted to find a way to give back and get involved, but didn’t know how to go about it, who to get involved with, or where he would find the time in his day-to-day life. Not one to sit back idly, Morgan decided to dive in head first, and began to formulate his plan.

Days Of Our Lives Stars To Come Out For Charity

A host of Days Of Our Lives cast members will be out-and-about in Los Angeles for charity next weekend.

Alison Sweeney will head the list of stars who will meet with fans of the daytime soap at the Sportsman Lodge in Studio City for a cocktail reception with plenty of photo and autograph opportunities. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The event is being organized by Days Charity Events, which hosts several events every year that bring the Days of our Lives actors together with their esteemed fans, and raise money for some fantastic charities, like the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and this event’s recipient, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Janice Dickinson Sold For Diabetes Charity

Former supermodel Janice Dickinson has been sold at auction to aid the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Dickinson offered herself up for auction and was the top prize during the twelfth annual Bay Area Hope Gala at San Francisco’s Ritz Carlton hotel on Saturday, where an unnamed fan bid $20,000 to spend the day with the icon.

Bill Murray To Host Annual Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament

On March 25 and 26, the Murray Bros are hosting the 10th Annual Murray Bros. Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, where the Murray Bros. Caddyshack restaurant is located.

Outside of the golf tournament, dinners and lunches will be served on both days. A silent auction will be held on Friday along with the pairings draw party. On Saturday, after the tournament has ended, an awards party will be held where Bill Murray and various others will entertain on stage throughout the night.

Annie Lennox Launches Charity Appeal

Two ‘stars’ helped to launch the new Wellington £1million Appeal 2010 at London’s Landmark Hotel on Thursday 14th January. The stars were Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and seven year old Sam Thomas, who has Type 1 diabetes. Sam helped to make a film for the appeal.

And the Wellington Hospital’s new charity appeal was immediately given a big donation to begin the quest for £1 million to help two deserving charities.

The British Red Cross fund supports HIV/AIDS orphans in the Kwa Zulu Natal region of South Africa and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation supports young people in the UK suffering from type 1 diabetes and it also funds research into the disease.

Annie Lennox Blogs For Haiti, Attends Charity Event

Annie Lennox has written a message encouraging her fans to give to relief efforts in Haiti.

“Haiti…It always seems that the ones who can least afford it are also the those who get hit by the sharp end of catastrophe,” she wrote on her blog. "Absolutely devastating. I’m making my own personal contribution to the British Red Cross, and I’m sure that everybody reading this blog will be doing something to support the situation there… Even if you just give ONE pound or ONE Euro, or dollar… that will be your unique and individual contribution to the overwhelm! …So if you haven’t already done so.. Please can I encourage you to just get off the couch and get active… In that way, you can be part of the collective solution, and you can give yourself a pat on the back for being an engaged and caring member of the human race! YOU REALLY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!"

Lennox also attended a HCA Gala event in London on 14th Jan 2010 where, as an Ambassador for The British Red Cross (BRCS), she spoke about their work with HIV/AIDS and her personal commitment to the cause before presenting a short piece of film featuring Red Cross CEO Sir Nicholas Young giving an overview of the BRCS’s on going work with HIV/AIDS and highlighting some of the challenges the BRCS faces in South Africa.

Creedence Makes A Revival For Diabetes Charity

Doug Clifford and Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival are pleased to be a part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's charity CD, “Hope for the Holidays – Rockin’ Christmas for a Cure.”

They contributed a version of “Run Rudolph Run” to the CD, which serves to benefit the JDRF.

Juvenile Diabetes (Type 1) is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, but lasts through their entire life. Approximately 24 million Americans have diabetes, and the number keeps increasing. Studies suggest that 1 in 3 Americans born in 2000 may develop some sort of diabetes during their lifetime.

Gloria Loring Sings The Facts Of Life

Days of Our Lives actress and singer Gloria Loring is well known for her work with childhood diabetes, and she would like to invite you to a special celebration of TV theme tunes this Sunday, March 22.

Born in 1946 in New York City, formerly married to Alan Thicke – with whom she co-composed the theme songs Diff’rent Strokes and Facts Of Life – and mother of Robin Thicke, Loring is a spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and is the author of four books about diabetes, including her newest, Living With Type 2 Diabetes: Moving Past the Fear.

Her interest in the cause of juvenile diabetes stems from the fact her son, Brennan, suffers from the condition. Following his diagnosis at age four, Loring created and self-published two volumes of the Days Of Our Lives cookbook. Those books, along with her recording A Shot in the Dark, raised more than one million dollars for diabetes research. She followed that success with two commercially published books, Kids, Food and Diabetes and Parenting a Child with Diabetes also just released on e-books.

Nick Jonas Wants You To Walk In His Shoes

The youngest member of the Jonas Brothers – Nick – is giving fans the chance to meet him in person and find out what it’s like to be a pop star with diabetes through a new competition.

Earlier this month the brothers teamed up with Bayer Diabetes Care to raise awareness of the condition, and now they are inviting people with diabetes to enter the “Walk In Nick’s Shoes” (W.I.N.S.) sweepstakes which will give four lucky fans the opportunity to meet Nick Jonas in Los Angeles and be part of “Team Jonas” at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes in Los Angeles on November 1.

“It’s going to be really exciting to meet the winners who will walk with other young people and their families to raise awareness and funds for juvenile diabetes,” said Nick Jonas. “I’m lucky to have great support from my family, friends and fans.
