Prince William's Message To Charity Antarctic Trekkers

Prince William – HRH The Duke of Cambridge – has sent a special message to the two teams of British soldiers who completed their centennial recreation of Scott and Amundsen’s epic trek to the South Pole for charity this week.

“I count it a great privilege, as Patron of the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race, to welcome you home. What you have achieved, and the honour you have done to Amundsen and Scott and the other great men of history who accompanied them, is beyond all praise.

“The fire in heart and soul that drives man to push the boundaries of what is physically possible and, in so doing, to lay bare the extraordinary strengths and depths of our humanity, is alive in the breast of every one of you today, as it was with those intrepid men a century ago.

Prince William Congratulates Charity South Pole Expedition

HRH The Duke of Cambridge has congratulated a British Army expedition after the team completed the most authentic-ever recreation of the famous Scott-Amundsen race to the South Pole today – exactly 100 years to the day since Captain Robert Falcon Scott reached the Pole.

Led by Lt Col Henry Worsley MBE, a British Army Officer, the ‘Amundsen’ team followed the exact route forged by the Norwegian adventurer 100 years ago. He and WO2 Lou Rudd ensured history repeated itself by beating the ‘Scott’ team, after reaching the geographical South Pole at 17:20 on 9 January following a gruelling seven-hour push to cover the final 12.5 nautical miles. The Scott team, led by WO2 Mark Langridge and his fellow adventurers SSgt Kev Johnson and SSgt Vic Vicary, reached the Pole at 10:25 on 17 January – the exact day that Capt Scott arrived in 1911. The team followed Scott’s exact route that included climbing the famous Beardmore Glacier.

The expedition aims to raise £500,000 for The Royal British Legion’s crucial work, providing care and support to serving and ex-Service people, and their families.

Robin Gibb's Charity Single Hits Top Of Amazon Charts

The 2011 Official Poppy Appeal Single for The Royal British Legion went on sale this week – with a bullet. The single went straight to the top of the Amazon charts.

I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You by The Soldiers with Robin Gibb went on sale Sunday and had its ceremonial debut on Monday when The Soldiers performed it for Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street. The Soldiers performed an a capella version of the song in front of an audience of decorated ex-Service people at the Prime Minister’s home.

The Legion’s Director of Fundraising Russell Thompson said: “It is the first time serving soldiers have sung the official single for the Poppy Appeal and we’re honoured that this great song was performed at No 10 Downing Street today, The song is incredibly moving to hear and reminds listeners to think of those serving in Afghanistan. We’re proud to be associated with The Soldiers and to have this song as the official tune of the Poppy Appeal in our 90th anniversary year.”

Robin Gibb's Gotta Get A Message To You For Charity

Robin Gibb has spoken about his new version of the classic Bee Gees song Gotta Get A Message To You, being released this weekend to benefit charity.

The singer has recorded the new single with “The Soldiers”, a trio made up of members of the British Armed Forces. The Soldiers’ first album, Coming Home, became a hit on the British charts.

“The Soldiers had started recording an album of songs and I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You was one of them,” says Robin in an interview posted on his official website. "One day I had a request if I’d be willing to sing on it and because of its nature, it’s a charity record, I said yes to it right away.
