The Nature Conservancy Names The Greenest Bands Ever

In honor of the 10th Anniversary of the legendary Austin City Limits Festival, a new list recognizes bands that are making great music while fighting to save the planet

If there’s anything Austin knows, it’s live music. But as important as entertainment is, The Nature Conservancy understands the impact all those tour buses and visitors can have on our environment. That’s why The Nature Conservancy loves bands that not only talk the talk, but walk the walk – the green walk, that is. Check out some of the organization’s favorite eco-friendly acts, all of whom have graced a stage at the Austin City Limits Festival during its 10-year run.

Moet And Chandon Auction Vintage Bottles For The Nature Conservancy

Moët & Chandon, the champagne of success and glamour since 1743, this week held the “Tribute to the Spirit of 1743” gala dinner in Shanghai, China.

Hosted by Moët’s celebrity muse Scarlett Johansson, the exclusive event welcomed guests on the Peninsula Shanghai Roof Top Terrace overlooking the Bund, followed by an after-party at Bar Rouge, one of the city’s trendiest clubs. The Peninsula’s rooftop was specially crafted out of 15,000 sparkling champagne glasses, lining the terrace walls for the occasion.

In Hong Kong, prior to the Shanghai dîner du siècle, Moët & Chandon auctioned off a luxurious coffret filled with bottles of the prestigious Grand Vintage 1911. Auctioned at $10,000 USD, the proceeds benefitted The Nature Conservancy, a local environmental initiative helping to protect nature and preserve wildlife.

Bill Clinton has announced the program and featured attendees for the seventh Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to be held September 20-22 in New York City.

This year’s gathering will bring together an estimated 1,200 diverse stakeholders, including current and former heads of state, Fortune 500 CEOs, national and local government officials, and leaders from the nonprofit sector to devise and implement workable solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Since we began in 2005, CGI members have made great progress in addressing critical global issues by making more than 2,000 commitments through CGI that have and will improve the lives of more than 300 million people in more than 180 countries,” President Clinton said. “As many of these commitments come to fruition, I am proud that we will be showcasing the tangible impact they have made.”

Sophia Bush has designed a limited edition bobble, the reusable water bottle that filters water as you drink, to raise proceeds in aid of The Nature Conservancy.

Sophia took part in the San Francisco Marathon in July and raised an impressive $50,000 through Crowdrise to support TNC, which aims to protect the lands and waters that plants, animals and natural communities need to survive.

Actress and passionate environmentalist Sophia Bush will be using her feet to raise money to protect the planet this summer as a member of Team Nature Conservancy- she’ll be running in the San Francisco Marathon taking place July 31, 2011.

Sheryl Crow was busy last week promoting World Water Day by appearing at a special concert in New York City and talking water conservation to CBS.

The nine-time Grammy winner appeared at the show at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday, March 22, to benefit The Nature Conservancy and its work supporting river and lake projects across the US.

“Fresh water is a precious resource many of us take for granted,” she said. “Knowing it’s threatened in some areas of our country is an issue we can’t ignore. I’m really proud to take part in this special benefit concert sponsored by Crystal Light in support of their collaboration with The Nature Conservancy.”
