Christina Aguilera Gives Hunger A Powerful Voice

Yum! Brands, the world’s largest restaurant company and parent of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, announced today that multi-Grammy Award winner and pop superstar Christina Aguilera is giving hunger a powerful voice by filming a new PSA for the Company’s World Hunger Relief effort that benefits the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies.

Aguilera will appear in the new PSA as well as advertising, online efforts and posters made possible by KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell to be released this fall. She has served as global spokesperson for Yum! Brands’ World Hunger Relief effort since 2009 where her participation has helped raise nearly $50 million for WFP and other hunger relief agencies. She also serves as an “Ambassador Against Hunger” for WFP where she has traveled on relief trips with the organization to Haiti and Guatemala.

LookToTheStar.org’s Hollywood Insider Maxine Tatlonghari was able to catch up with Ali Landry at the WE CAN Community-wide Food Drive benefiting the Burbank Temporary Aid Center on November 16, 2010 at the Burbank Boys and Girls Club.

The event was co-hosted by Ali Landry and Yum! Brands. Other celebs at the event included Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, Ally Walker, Marissa Jaret Winokur and The Guncles.

One thing that I was very clear on that day is that most of the celebrities (if not ALL of them) came out that day because Ali personally invited them. We’re inspired by her commitment to amazing causes from world hunger to child safety, and her willingness to ask her friends to come and support her and her causes. She’s also very real and encourages “everyday Americans” to stand where they are… and just get involved.

On Tuesday November 16, 2010, I had the pleasure of joining Ali Landry and Yum! Brands as they co-hosted their first LA Area WE CAN Community-wide Food Drive benefiting the Burbank Temporary Aid Center and the Burbank Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Ali and volunteers – including celebrity parents Adrienne Maloof-Nassif (“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Marissa Jaret Winokur (“The Talk”), Ally Walker (“Sons of Anarchy”), and Bill Horn and Scout Masterson (the “Guncles” from “Home Sweet Hollywood”) – greeted contributors curbside to collect their canned good contributions to benefit the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.

In addition to hosting the WE CAN Food Drive, Ali and her celebrity friends served the children and staff members of the Boys & Girls Clubs a pre-Thanksgiving KFC dinner complete with KFC’s world famous chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and biscuits. In fact, when I asked the celebrities why they came out to support this cause, many cited the fact that Ali had asked them. Of course, they were engaged by the cause but it really helped to have that personal touch from Ali herself. I had the pleasure of talking with many of the stars involved, and the interviews will feature on LookToTheStars.org over the next few days.

Ali Landry To Host World Hunger Relief Event In Burbank

Ali Landry and Yum! Brands are hosting an event to benefit World Hunger Relief this month.

We CAN End Hunger Together is World Hunger Relief’s pre-holiday canned food drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. Yum! Brands and Ali Landry invite the community to donate canned food items and help the children of the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank enjoy a pre-Thanksgiving Feast. Yum! Brands / World Hunger Relief will be providing all of the signage, t-shirts and hats for all volunteers (including celebrity volunteers, etc.) as well as a pre-Thanksgiving Feast served at 4pm on the day of the event.

The event begins at 2pm on November 16 at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Burbank, 2244 N. Buena Vista Street.

Christina Aguilera To Head To Haiti For Charity Mission

Five-time Grammy Award winner, Christina Aguilera, was today named “Ambassador Against Hunger” for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) – an appointment she revealed during her appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.

“A child dies every 6 seconds of hunger which is a huge statistic for me,” Aguilera told Oprah Winfrey. “After having my own child I just had to be a part of it and do something about it and help change that situation.”

Aguilera, one of the most successful recording artists of the decade, has a track record of interest and commitment to hunger issues. Last year, she traveled to Guatemala to see WFP’s maternal/child health programs. She serves as the Spokesperson for World Hunger Relief, a global campaign created by Yum! Brands that generated awareness and nearly $60 million in funds over the past three years for WFP and other hunger relief agencies.

Christina Aguilera Teams With Muhammad Ali For Charity PSA

Christina Aguilera has teamed up with Muhammad Ali to film a PSA for the World Food Programme.

“I’m devastated by the toll that the earthquake has taken, and as a mom, I am especially heartbroken by the children and families affected,” Aguilera said. “My goal for the PSA is to inspire as many people as possible to donate to the World Food Programme so they can continue to feed the survivors in Haiti and move them from hunger to hope.”

The PSA is being sponsored by World Hunger Relief, Yum! Brands annual campaign to raise awareness, volunteerism and funds to benefit the United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies.

Christina Aguilera Highlights Hunger In Guatemala

Christina Aguilera and her husband Jordan Bratman recently traveled with the UN World Food Programme to villages in the Guatemalan highlands near Lake Atitlan, where up to 80 percent of the indigenous children are malnourished. Guatemala has the fourth highest child malnutrition rate in the world.

“I wanted to see with my own eyes what hunger means,” she said. “I don’t think I can ever forget these images. The people of WFP do such a great job helping hungry children and mothers. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful project and incredible team.”

WFP brings life-saving food assistance to some 350,000 people in Guatemala – mostly women and children. It works closely with the Guatemalan government to battle chronic hunger.
