Victoria Principal Makes Donations To Stop Offshore Drilling

Following the federal government’s proposed expansion of offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Arctic Ocean last month, actress Victoria Principal has stepped forward with extremely generous six–figure donations to both Oceana and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to support their joint efforts to prevent increased drilling off U.S. coasts.

This is the second gift Principal has given the organizations to support their fight to protect our coasts from offshore drilling and spills.

This is the second annual green auction hosted by elite auction house, Christie’s. Last year’s event raised over $2 million for environmental groups, with items such as a round of golf with Bill Clinton going for $80,000.

Kristin Bauer Promotes A New Shark Bill

Actress Kristin Bauer is asking Americans to tell their senators to support the Shark Conservation Act in an upcoming vote.

In her letter published last week in the Huffington Post Bauer says, “There is a bill awaiting a vote in the US Senate that would eliminate in US waters the barbaric practice of amputating shark fins at sea, and make our country an international leader in shark conservation.”

After watching Sharkwater, a documentary that aims to expose the realities of the shark finning industry as well as shed light on the nature of sharks that are usually feared by humans, and after participating in some diving expeditions to view sharks in their natural habitat, Bauer says her eyes have been opened.

Ted Danson Testifies For Science And Preparedness In The Arctic

Oceana founder and board member Ted Danson attended a hearing and presenting public testimony to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement on Tuesday, November 9.

Danson is a long-time ocean advocate, who recently spent time in the Arctic. His testimony focused on the lack of basic scientific information about the Chukchi Sea ecosystem and the lack of response capabilities in the event of a spill.

“If you had done the science to begin with, maybe you would have said, ‘You know what? Don’t drill here, drill there,” he said. "It has less impact on the environment, and you can still get your oil.’

The star of HBO’s ‘Entourage’, Adrian Grenier, has made quite a name for himself as an eco-activist and has designed a new limited-edition t-shirt with the help of Nautica and GQ’s The Gentlemen’s Fund to benefit Oceana.

100% of the $25 organic cotton tee will go directly to Oceana — the ocean conservation organization supported by the actor.

Pearl Jam has released the third single from their new album Backspacer – Amongst The Waves – with download proceeds of the video to go to Conservation International.

Ted Danson – a board member of Oceana – has blogged about the charity’s current campaign to stop offshore drilling in the wake of the Gulf oil spill.

“While images of oiled wildlife and beaches hit us in the gut — and are part of the reason I got involved in ocean conservation decades ago — there’s another reason why it’s time to stop drilling for oil in our oceans,” wrote the actor/activist in the Huffington Post. "It might not have a face or feathers, but it’s just as important.

“The reason is this: The stubborn push to continue drilling not only fouls our oceans and contributes to climate change, it weakens our ability to join the emerging market for clean energy — specifically offshore wind.

Victoria Principal Makes Charity Donation After Oil Spill

Former Dallas star Victoria Principal has made a large donation to assist in clean-up efforts after the huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The star has pledged $200,000 to help charities Oceana and the Natural Resources Defense Council deal with the aftermath of the disaster.

Other stars currently involved in the clean-up are Kevin Costner, who is testing a water-separation machine designed by his brother, and James Cameron, who is donating the use of his underwater submersibles. Stephen Baldwin will film a documentary about the disaster.

Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper passed away on Saturday, May 29, leaving behind a legacy seldom matched by actors.

After starting out in films such as Rebel Without a Cause and the classic Easy Rider, Hopper went on to gain two Golden Globe and two Academy Award nominations in his career and won the hearts of film critics for his intense and gritty performances.
