The DNA Foundation has announced a new name and refined mission for its organization.

DNA will now be known as THORN: Digital Defenders of Children. The foundation will focus on the role technology plays in crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children – including the buying and selling of children for sex around the world, soliciting sex with children, and the proliferation of child pornography across the Internet. THORN’s goal is clear – to disrupt and deflate predatory behavior in the fight to end child sexual exploitation.

Demi And Ashton Fight Child Sex Slavery With Celebrity Charity Video

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have been joined by a host of their celebrity friends – including Justin Timberlake, Sean Penn, Jamie Foxx, Drake, Jason Mraz and Bradley Cooper – for a new video initiative to fight child sex slavery.

Demi and Ashton are using their charity – the DNA Foundation – to launch the campaign, with its message that “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls.” According to CNN, 100,000 to 300,000 American children between 11 and 14 are vulnerable to being sold for sex every year.

“The average age of a girl involved in the sex trade is 13,” said Kutcher. "And the average man who buys a girl is 30-years-old, has no prior criminal record, and has a well-paying job.

Ashton Kutcher Wants Craigslist To Help Stop Sex Trafficking

Craigslist.com, like eBay, is the go to place for pack rats, collectors, all things frugal, and…sex traffickers? Actor and producer Ashton Kutcher has called out the virtual marketplace’s founder, Craig Newmark, via Twitter on promoting an illegal business in the black market.

Kutcher tweeted, “Do U have ideas how 2 help Craigslist fight human trafficking? pls send all responses to @craignewmark.”

Kutcher (@aplusk) encouraged his over five million followers to come up with ways that Craigslist.com could do something about trafficking. Kutcher suggested catching traffickers by having them enter their credit card information before they are able to view search results. Kutcher added that Newmark should donate the money made from the illegal business to fund technology that prevents future situations on the website.

Demi Moore Finds Inspiration In Haiti

Demi Moore just returned from a visit to earthquake ravaged Haiti, and seems to have found inspiration in the rubble.

Moore and Ashton Kutcher's new charity, the DNA Foundation, is focused on the sex slave trade, and tends to use public awareness in its efforts to eventually bring the trade to an end. DNA is not about cleaning up after natural disasters. In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper last week, Moore explained why she went to Haiti and what she found there.

“[Ashton and I] became aware of the Restavek system, which is about 300,000 children who are enslaved to do all the work, who sleep on the floor and in most cases it’s the young girls who are sexually exploited.”

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have announced the launch of a new campaign to urge the Haitian government to ban child slavery.

  Experts estimate that there are approximately 300,000 child slaves in Haiti under the “restavec” system. Restavec is derived from the French words “reste avec” which means “one who stays with” and the system is not illegal under Haitian law.  

Restavec children can be bought and sold in Haiti. Some are sold by desperate parents who hope that they might have a better life when living in someone else’s home. This is almost never the case.

Ashton Kutcher Heads To Russia To Strengthen Bonds

Ashton Kutcher has been recruited by the State Department to join a delegation heading to Russia to discuss how communications technologies and social media can be used to strengthen and broaden the ties between the United States and Russia.

Kutcher, known for his love of social media, along with eBay CEO John Donahoe,Twitter co-founder and Square founder Jack Dorsey, and Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior will be among those ‘Tweeting’ about the experience and discussing such topics as how to foster entrepreneurship; how to use the Web to improve training, distance learning for remote populations, e-government initiatives, and cultural exchanges; and most importantly, how to use the Web to combat child trafficking and corruption-an issue close to Kutcher’s heart.

Kutcher and his actress wife, Demi Moore, are the founders of the DNA Foundation, which works on anti-trafficking issues. Kutcher also founded production company Katalyst and has been active in promoting and furthering social media initiatives.

“I struck up an agreement with the wife this year that we’re not going to try to do something big for each other and instead the best way we can celebrate the day is to share our love with other people,” said Kutcher. "There’s an organization in New York called GEMS that helps human trafficking victims. There are a bunch of these girls that have come off the streets and are now being housed by this organization, so we’re going to make all those girls our Valentines this year.

Demi Moore And Ashton Kutcher Launch Charity

Actors Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have just created a charity, the DNA Foundation, in an effort to bring attention to modern day sex slavery, something that few are willing to talk about.

On the new charity’s Facebook page, Kutcher wrote about a recent visit he and Moore made to the US-Mexican border. There, they interviewed two victims of sex slavery who were rescued by border patrol.

“Our meeting with two girls who were used as sex slaves was one of the most heart-wrenching experiences of my life,” said Kutcher. “These girls endured things that no human being should endure at the hands of men who for some reason thought that what they were doing was ok—or knew it was wrong and decided to do it anyway.   We visited a quiet canyon where some of these crimes occurred—car after car of men driving down a bumpy dirt road to come and take their turn with these girls, laying outside on a plastic sheet.”
