Alicia Keys To Honor George Harrison At Celebrity Charity Concert

Alicia Keys will host her annual Black Ball for charity in New York next month, in honor of former Beatle George Harrison.

Keys’ charity, Keep A Child Alive, will benefit from the concert, which will feature appearances by Usher, Norah Jones, will.i.am and Mary J. Blige, as well as Gary Clark Jr., Jay Sean, Midival Punditz with Karsh Kale and Alicia Keys herself.

This year marks the fortieth anniversary of George Harrison’s Concert For Bangladesh, the first time artists came together for a concert to benefit single cause. Today, the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF is a joint undertaking between the Harrison family and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to support UNICEF programs that provide lifesaving assistance to children, including health, education, nutrition and emergency relief. In the tradition established by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, The George Harrison Fund for UNICEF continues to support UNICEF programs in Bangladesh while expanding its influence to include other countries where children are in need.

Alicia Keys Urges Celebrity Friends To Sacrifice Digital Life For Charity

A number of celebrities are giving up their Facebook and Twitter accounts as part of a new charity initiative for Alicia Keys’ Keep A Child Alive.

The campaign – called Digital Life Sacrifice – will see stars such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher stay away from their computers from December 1 until Keys’ charity raises $1 million.

“It’s really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on,” says Alicia. "It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up. It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that.

LTTS Exclusive: Elijah Wood Talks Charity At The Art Of Elysium Halloween Ball

Elijah Wood was guest DJ at a very special charity Halloween party on October 30, and LookToTheStars.org caught up with the star to ask him a few questions about his charity work.

The 5th annual Art of Elysium Halloween Ball benefiting children being treated for illness and serious injury took place at LA’s newest nightlife venue, 1616, on Saturday. The star-studded event raised thousands of dollars for the charity, which encourages working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions.

Decked out in a white tuxedo, Elijah took the time to explain his involvement with the organization and what charity means to him.

Tinchy Stryder To Perform For Alicia Keys' Charity

Killing two birds with one stone hasn’t been difficult for London-based rapper Tinchy Stryder, who collaborated with 16 artists in the 2009 single I Got Soul to raise money for War Child UK. Once again combining his passion for music and charity, it has been announced that Stryder will headline a charity gig on November 4 at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.

Alicia Keys, as co-founder and global ambassador of Keep A Child Alive, a charity of seven years, participates by inviting her fellow musicians to hold charity concerts to benefit children and families who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. 33.4 million people worldwide are infected with

HIV/AIDS and 28 million have died from HIV/AIDS. Keep a Child Alive has provided clinics and medical services in India, South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya and practices anti-retroviral therapy, which is the treatment for HIV patients.

Alicia Keys Holds Annual Charity Ball In London

Alicia Keys was in London last week for her annual Black Ball to benefit her charity Keep A Child Alive, where she was joined onstage by British rockers Kasabian.

Held at St John Smith Square in Westminster, the ball also featured an auction hosted by Thandie Newton that saw a massive number of rare celebrity items go under the hammer for charity. Items included the shoes worn by Keys in her Put It In A Love Song video with Beyonce, and a guitar signed by Kasabian. A photo opportunity with Keys and OK! Magazine went for £12,000, and the chance to record with Swizz Beatz – who has just announced he is the father of Keys’ baby – went to boyband JLS for £30,000.

Other stars spotted at the event were Katie Price, Bryan Ferry and Tinchy Stryder.

Alicia Keys Follows Bono's Charity Advice

Alicia Keys has revealed how Bono helped lead to her decision to use her celebrity status for good and establish Keep A Child Alive.

“It’s a currency — you must use it well or lose it,” she told Britain’s Live Magazine. "Bono told me that, and I totally agree. Now I’ve achieved a certain level of fame I know I must make good use of it, especially as I’ve been around the world and know suffering in a way I didn’t before.

“That’s why I launched my charity, Keep A Child Alive. I was so moved to meet people in Africa who have so little and yet are so generous, people who’ve been to hell and back but retain their dignity and are fighting for their dreams. The charity gives people the chance to chase those dreams.”

Alicia Keys Urges American Idol Viewers To Text For Charity

Twelve-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys appeared last night on Fox’s American Idol as part of a massive initiative called the Text ‘ALIVE’ Challenge, which aims to provide lifesaving medicine and care to children and families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

The campaign is being organized by Keep A Child Alive (KCA), the non-profit organization for which Keys serves as Co-Founder and Global Ambassador. As part of Keys’ appearance, she asked the millions of “American Idol” viewers to text the word ‘ALIVE’ to 90999 to make a $5 donation. The Text ‘ALIVE’ Challenge aims to generate millions of new texts that will provide lifesaving care through KCA’s beneficiary sites in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and India.

Keys explained that the Text ‘ALIVE’ Challenge will not only benefit Keep a Child Alive’s beneficiaries, but introduce millions of new donors to the rewards of charitable giving.
