Madonna Announces Completion Of Ten Schools In Malawi

As part of Madonna's ongoing commitment to support orphans and vulnerable children in poverty stricken Malawi, ten primary schools have been completed that will serve to educate 4,871 children.

These schools are located in rural villages across Malawi and are a result of the partnership between Madonna, her charity Raising Malawi and the global nonprofit buildOn. The ten schools, which were scheduled to be built over 18 months, have been completed six months ahead of schedule. Six of the schools are already in use and all ten will be up and running in January 2013 for the first day of school in the New Year.

The project was originally announced early this year as a major initiative of Raising Malawi, which has already provided millions of dollars in support of orphanages, a network of orphan care service providers, health clinics, a scholarship program for girls, and the schools with buildOn.

Madonna To Build Schools In Malawi

Madonna has not forgotten her commitment to help the children of Malawi and has announced plans to build ten new schools in Malawi with buildOn, a deeply respected non-profit organization that has an unparalleled track record of school construction in Malawi.

buildOn has already built 54 primary schools in Malawi and with Madonna’s commitment will greatly expand their work.

Madonna, who is scheduled to perform at this Sunday’s Halftime show, is about to release a new film and a new album still feels passionately about her vow to help Malawi’s neediest children receive an education.

Justin Bieber Supports Social Good Facebook Games

Sojo Studios has forged a partnership with global pop/R&B phenomenon Justin Bieber to help children around the world.

The company recently heralded the preview launch of its first “social good” Facebook game, WeTopia, and its first celebrity partnership with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. Both DeGeneres and Bieber will provide entertainment marketing support as Sojo rolls out its slate of games, beginning with WeTopia.

“Playing online games is a lot of fun already, but WeTopia makes it better by helping children around the world. Some of these kids need to go to school or they need clean water,” said Bieber. “I’ve been so lucky and blessed and that’s why I believe so much in giving back, and I know my fans will feel the same way when they play WeTopia.”

Ann Curry Helps School Building Efforts In Nepal

buildOn, an international non-profit, has partnered with TODAY co-host Ann Curry to raise awareness of the organization’s school building efforts in developing nations and to help construct a school in rural Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world, through Twitter.

In a message to her followers Curry tweeted, “LOVE this: 6 dollars helps build schools all over the world AND helps young Americans rise to greatness: http://bit.ly/rG5aUw”

Twitter users can participate in a retweet contest to help Ann Curry spread the word about buildOn’s “Every Six Days” initiative. The Twitter user who receives the most retweets by December 15th will win a VIP behind the scenes tour of the TODAY Show and the opportunity to meet Ann Curry.
