World-renown cellist Lynn Harrell and his wife, violinist Helen Nightengale, have assembled an unprecedented group of celebrated music stars to record the recently released charity album titled, We’ll Paint You a Rainbow.

Paul Simon, Joan Baez, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jessye Norman, Christine Brewer, John Williams, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Lynn Harrell are just a few of the musicians who have given their time and talents to record for the album. This fundraising effort to benefit at risk children through music was released exclusively by iTunes on March 25th and will be released worldwide on April 8th, 2013.

Leading up to the President’s national address on Tuesday, Save the Children — joined by more than 40 other organizations — gathered nearly 100,000 voices in support of a children’s commission, calling on the Obama Administration to speak out and take action for underserved kids in the United States.

A number of stars have shown they care for the people of New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Lady Gaga has announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross with the following message: “Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. Jennifer Garner Announces America's Report Card

America earned a lackluster C- grade on child well-being, according to a national report card released today by First Focus and Save the Children. Artist ambassador for Save the Children, Jennifer Garner, joined Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn., retired) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) to announce the findings of America’s Report Card 2012: Children in the U.S.

“The number of Americans living in poverty remains at a historic high, with nearly one in four children knowing all too well what it means to go without,” said Garner. “Childhood poverty sets children up for failure in school, impacts their health, and can pre-determine the course of their lives. So why, then, are children being left out of the conversation during an election season in which the economy is the primary issue? We need to do better for our kids.”

Commissioned by Sen. Dodd and Sen. Casey, America’s Report Card provides a holistic picture of unmet needs in five areas of a child’s life: economic security, early childhood education, K-12 education, permanence and stability, and health and safety. The report also urges the American people to take action to boost children’s chances for success in school and life: vote in November’s general election for candidates who support investments in children; hold elected officials accountable for commitments to help children succeed; and engage with other local leaders to improve the lives of children in their own communities.

Launched yesterday, Save the Children and Ad Council’s Every Beat Matters campaign draws on the power of music inspired by children’s heartbeats to give Americans new ways to help millions more children survive.

Multimedia public service ads featuring the creation of OneRepublic's new single “Feel Again” debuted yesterday and will be distributed to more than 33,000 media outlets nationwide. The ads — created pro bono by ad agency BBDO New York and filmed by Academy Award-nominated directors Sean and Andrea Fine — show how children’s heartbeats collected in remote villages of Malawi and Guatemala inspired a hit song that can help bring hope to children around the world.

A portion of Feel Again proceeds will benefit Save the Children’s Every Beat Matters campaign, which aims to bring basic lifesaving care to children around the world. Every year about 7 million children die before their 5th birthday — mostly from preventable and treatable causes, including pneumonia, diarrhea and newborn complications.

OneRepublic is backing Save the Children and the Ad Council’s new Every Beat Matters campaign for newborn and child survival, launching in mid-September, with the release of the band’s new single today.
