Lady Gaga To Take Part In BGC Charity Day

BGC Partners, a leading international inter-dealer brokerage firm, will hold its fifth annual star-studded BGC Charity Day on Friday, September 11.

BGC is a leading inter-dealer brokerage firm affiliated with Cantor Fitzgerald, the company that suffered the heaviest loss of life during the Twin Towers tragedy in New York on September 11th, 2001. BGC is proud to continue its legacy of fundraising on behalf of a wide range of charitable causes, with proceeds this year going to charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Boomer Esiason Foundation, The Children’s Institute, Mercy Center, The Valerie Fund, Childhelp USA, Garden of Dreams, Jubilee Center, Bone Marrow Foundation, Coast to Coast Against Cancer and many more.

Every year, the event offers the chance for celebrities to act as financial brokers and help raise money by conducting real trades with BGC’s clients (the major banks and investment banks) over the phone from the trading floor (alongside a licensed broker). From these trades, worth millions of dollars in bonds, foreign exchange, derivatives and other products, BGC will aim to surpass last year’s total of $8 million globally, which brought the four-year total raised on BGC’s Charity Day to $23 million.

This year will see a host of stars take part, including Whoopi Goldberg, Anthony Edwards, Chace Crawford, Charles Grodin, Gary Sinise, Lady Gaga, Kathleen Turner and many more.

Michael Jackson's This Is It Film To Be Released

It has been reported that a film is to be released of the final footage from Michael Jackson’s rehearsals for his This Is It concerts, with some of the proceeds to go to charity.

Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to acquire the film – at a price of $60 million – with 90% of the profits to go to the Jackson Estate, which will include a charity to be set up in the King of Pop’s name.

Jackson was a huge supporter of charities in his lifetime, and his family hopes to keep his memory alive with the new charity. The singer often visited underprivileged children and children affected by disasters and in hospitals, and worked with organizations such as the Jane Goodall Institute, the TJ Martell Foundation, the United Negro College Fund, the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children, the Prince’s Trust, the Great Ormond Street Hospital, Childhelp USA, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America, Children’s Defense Fund, Elizabeth Taylor’s AIDS Foundation and many more.

The film is set for release on October 30.

Michael Jackson's Charity Legacy

Michael Jackson, who passed away last week, featured significantly on the pages of Look To The Stars. He was a passionate supporter of charity, and was honored by many different organizations for the work that he did and the compassion that he showed.

As well as writing We Are The World with Lionel Richie and helping to organize the United We Stand: What More Can I Give benefit concert in the wake of September 11, Jackson also donated the proceeds from a song to victims of Hurricane Katrina, often donated items to charity auctions, and was to donate some of the proceeds from his upcoming shows in London to charity. He set up a burns unit for children and also established the Heal The World Foundation, whose work has included airlifting 6 tons of supplies to Sarajevo, instituting drug and alcohol abuse education and donating millions of dollars to less fortunate children.

But this is only the tip of the iceberg. A comprehensive timeline of the late singer’s charitable work has been published by Jackson Action. Shaq Brings On The Peanut Butter For Charity

“You want some peanut butter? I’ll get you some.”

If you were at Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio, last week, you would have heard NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal utter these words and more at the church’s PB and Shaq Challenge. O’Neal served as the event’s featured guest and charged an admission of ten jars of peanut butter. The donated goods will be received by Feed the Children and will be included in care packages for Wilmington area families overwhelmed by the recent closing of a DHL center.

The event raised over one thousand jars of peanut butter – all of which will be closely scrutinized in light of the recent salmonella scare.

Shaquille O’Neal has quite the impressive charity track record. The 7 foot one athlete is a one million dollar supporter of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America and is a sponsor of at-risk/disadvantage children. O’Neal routinely holds “Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out” charity golf tournament and gala and has recently recorded a PSA for Childhelp USA.

Hollywood Squares For Charity This Weekend

Fans of Hollywood Squares are in for a treat tomorrow when the classic game show is resurrected for a star-studded live charity event on Saturday, January 10.

The fourth annual Drive The Dream Gala for Childhelp USA will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Barrett Jackson Collector Car Event. Taking part in the fun – which will be hosted by original Hollywood Squares maestro Peter Marshall – are Jane Seymour, Cheryl Ladd, Connie Stevens, John O’Hurley, Kathie Lee Gifford, Norm Crosby, Catherine Oxenberg, Casper Van Dien, and actress Rhonda Fleming.

“I’m ready to roll,” Peter Marshall told azcentral.com. “We’ve never done anything like this before, but it’s going to be quite a production.”

Childhelp USA is dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children, and focuses their efforts on advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach.

The gala starts at 6pm with a cocktail reception at WestWorld, 16601 North Pima Road. More information and tickets can be found at the event’s website.

Shaq O'Neil Records PSA For Childhelp USA

NBA great Shaquille O’Neal was in Phoenix, Arizona, this week to record a PSA – directed by Casper Van Dien – for Childhelp USA.

The Phoenix Suns center is the latest in a long line of celebrity supporters and ambassadors for the charity – dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect – including Leeza Gibbons, Glenn Frey of the Eagles, Jane Seymour, Catherine Oxenberg, and John Stamos.

“Everyone said you just have to have Shaq,” charity founder Sara O’Meara told ABC15. “And so we said we’ll get him. These economic times are so bad and people who made pledges in the past and honored them are no longer able to honor them, so when people step up to the plate, like Shaq, it makes a great detail of different to a charity.”

In the PSA, O’Neil warns children to stay away from drugs and urges people to donate to the organization.

“Be strong, stand tall,” he said.
