Alice In Chains Hosts Fantasy Football Charity Auction

The Alice in Chains and Friends Fantasy Football League launched its 3rd annual charity auction on eBay this month.

The ten-day-long auction includes collectible items donated by league participants such as custom-made black denim pants, jacket, and studded belt worn by Jerry Cantrell during the Alice in Chains BLACKDIAMONDSKYE Tour; a glove personally worn and autographed by Randy Wolf; a Mad Men script signed by the cast of the show; a bass signed by Duff McKagan, a gold record signed by Ann Wilson of Heart and more.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to league champion William DuVall’s charity of choice, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America.

A healthy dose of competition helped the Porter family, members of the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, Stevens Point, WI, win the second annual Triple Play Fit Family Challenge.

This year’s Challenge helped five families from across the country incorporate principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) Triple Play program into their lives over a period of six weeks. Mario Lopez, BGCA alum and host of the nationally syndicated daily show EXTRA, crowned the Porter family as the winners based on their ability to increase their physical activity, make healthier nutrition choices and spend more quality time together.

Sean Combs – AKA Diddy – has made an undisclosed donation to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club in his old stomping ground of Harlem, saving the organization from being shut down.

“Mr. Combs’ contribution comes at a time when we were faced with the possibility of eliminating existing programs and/or club sites,” Willie C. Bentley, Jr., board member and resource development chair, said. “One hundred per cent of Mr. Combs’ contribution will go directly to the young people, and provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs allowing us to move forward as a club, uninterrupted.”

The Great Future Start Here PSA made its debut yesterday during an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

On hand for the release of “Great Futures Start Here” was its director, Academy Award-winner Ron Howard, and Club alumnus Denzel Washington, who secured Howard’s support, along with that of producer Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment. The spot was filmed in June in Los Angeles.

Actor/producer/director Scott L. Schwartz recently worked on his next film in Cincinnati, OH. While Scott was in town he visited the children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, as well as The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, on behalf of the Scott L. Schwartz Children’s Foundation.

Scott L. Schwartz is widely known as the “Ultimate Bad Guy” from his acting career including: Ocean’s 11, 12 & 13, Starsky & Hutch, Spiderman, Fun With Dick And Jane, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Star Trek Voyager, among other feature films. Scott L. Schwartz has been visiting children’s hospitals worldwide for the past 12 years after losing his sister to lung cancer in 1998. He realizes the value and impact of making a lasting impression on children with cancer and how important it is to make each child feel special. Scott enjoys visiting pediatric hospitals and bringing what joy he can into the lives of every child he visits. They are always smiling during his visits and usually begging him to return soon.

Shaquille O'Neal Signs Cookies For Charity

Catherine Bell (Army Wives) will be among the guests at the Artists Against Drugs Art Show Benefit in LA this weekend.

Say No To Drugs is a registered not-for-profit 501©3 organization and is comprised of volunteers dedicated to educating kids, teens and adults about the harmful effects of drugs and thereby preventing drug abuse. They do so by hosting fundraising benefits, such as the annual 5K/10K Say No To Drugs Holiday Classic at the Universal Studios Back Lot (now going into its 11th year), where they highlight and publicize, to people of all ages, that it is okay to say “NO” to drugs and that they are doing something about the drug problem. Proceeds from their fundraising benefits are donated to local non-profit youth-oriented drug education and prevention organizations, including The Boys and Girls Club, Drug Free World, and Drug Free Marshals.

What started as a typical day last week for two Miami-area twins quickly became a surreal experience that left one exclaiming, “I feel like a celebrity!”

In a contest led by LeBron James’ longtime girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, someone in the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Miami-Dade crowd was about to be selected to win a bedroom makeover, valued at $500, featuring American Signature’s HomeCourt by LeBron James Collection.

“She had her eyes closed and fingers crossed whispering ‘please let me win, please let me win’ when Savannah announced her name and all the other kids started cheering,” explained American Signature Visual Merchandising Director Robert Grimmett.

Garth Brooks To Hit Dallas With Supercamp Charity Day

Next month, country music superstar Garth Brooks will make a special stop in Dallas to host his second annual Supercamp charity day.

Brooks will be joined by Dallas Cowboys Jason Witten at the event, which will see the two interact with nearly 200 children from the Dallas area Boys and Girls Club.  Boys who attend will be taught football basics while girls will be taught cheerleading and gymnastics.

Tickets are available to the general public with all proceeds going to Garth’s Teammates for Kids Foundation and Witten’s SCORE Foundation.

Lebron James Animated for Charity

The Lebrons will be a family entertainment show focused on communicating positive messages to the youth community and will be available on Youtube.

The Quicksilver Foundation is donating $10,000 to 10 different charities-all of which were selected by 10-time world surf champ, Kelly Slater.

It’s called “Ten for 10” and is a sort-of ‘bonus’ for Slater earning his 10th ASP Title.

As for the donation, Slater said, “Ten $10,000 donations is really special. As a kid I could not have fathomed being able to give such a nice gift to charities I believe in and it was totally unexpected! Thank you again to Quik and the Quik Foundation, and I hope these special groups find this to be a big help in the holiday months.”

One thing that I was very clear on that day is that most of the celebrities (if not ALL of them) came out that day because Ali personally invited them. We’re inspired by her commitment to amazing causes from world hunger to child safety, and her willingness to ask her friends to come and support her and her causes. She’s also very real and encourages “everyday Americans” to stand where they are… and just get involved.

I have three kids myself and when I heard about this [event], I said, “Absolutely, I would love to do it.” I did a documentary on foster care a few years ago that won a few film festivals, but I always grew up with the guidance of my grandparents and parents who instilled in me the need to give back – so anytime I can, I will.

On Tuesday November 16, 2010, I had the pleasure of joining Ali Landry and Yum! Brands as they co-hosted their first LA Area WE CAN Community-wide Food Drive benefiting the Burbank Temporary Aid Center and the Burbank Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Ali and volunteers – including celebrity parents Adrienne Maloof-Nassif (“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Marissa Jaret Winokur (“The Talk”), Ally Walker (“Sons of Anarchy”), and Bill Horn and Scout Masterson (the “Guncles” from “Home Sweet Hollywood”) – greeted contributors curbside to collect their canned good contributions to benefit the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.

In addition to hosting the WE CAN Food Drive, Ali and her celebrity friends served the children and staff members of the Boys & Girls Clubs a pre-Thanksgiving KFC dinner complete with KFC’s world famous chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and biscuits. In fact, when I asked the celebrities why they came out to support this cause, many cited the fact that Ali had asked them. Of course, they were engaged by the cause but it really helped to have that personal touch from Ali herself. I had the pleasure of talking with many of the stars involved, and the interviews will feature on LookToTheStars.org over the next few days.
