Retired U.S Navy Captain Kevin Wensing has joined The Gary Sinise Foundation as Strategic Director. Wensing, who served for 26 years in the U.S. Navy and then went on to work for the Deputy Secretary of Defense and the USO, will help develop the resources, relationships and partnerships needed to enable the foundation to better serve those who protect and defend our nation.

The new organization aims to provide programs to honor, educate, support,and entertain servicemen, their families, and people in need

Award-winning actor Gary Sinise will launch the Gary Sinise Foundation on July 4th, 2011 to honor the Nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.

The foundation will provide and support unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities. 

Some of the many programs include relief for wounded warriors, entertainment for service members and their families, school supplies for children where U.S. troops are deployed, and scholarships for veterans. The foundation will also support and promote several quality organizations, some of which include The United Service Organization (USO), Operation International Children, Snowball Express, Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, American Veterans Disabled For Life Memorial, Fisher House Foundation, People to People International, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, TAPS – Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, The FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation, Hope For The Warriors, The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, The Navy Seal Foundation, and Disabled American Veterans.

Nashville Mayor Thanks Rascal Flatts For Charity Work

Country music sensations Rascal Flatts have been honored for their charity work.

The band – which is part of the Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet and have been honored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation – were honored by Nashville mayor Karl Dean during their show at the Grand Ole Opry this week.

“This is such a privilege to be here tonight to thank you in person for all that you do for the community and for the children in this city,” said Mayor Dean.

Fisher House Foundation will be the beneficiary of proceeds from Stadium Entertainment’s release, My Country: Smash Hits, a compilation of songs from country music stars Trace Adkins, Rodney Atkins, Dierks Bentley, Big & Rich, Rascal Flatts, Randy Houser, Jypsi, Lady Antebellum, Reba McEntire, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban.

The album was released on August 24 and had already reached #133 in Music and #15 in Country Music on Amazon’s Bestsellers Rank as a result of album pre-orders.

Look to The Stars Asks Five For Fighting's John Ondrasik

John Ondrasik, the recording artist behind the pop-rock sensation Five For Fighting, has been offering Americans support and inspiration for more than 10 years. His song, Superman (It’s Not Easy) became an anthem after the 9/11 attacks, and was performed at The Concert for New York City in late 2001, and then added to the charity album Live in the X Lounge IV.

His support has continued through a USO tour of Guantanamo Bay and other bases in Cuba in February/March of 2007, followed by a tour of Japan, Guam and Hawaii in November. That same month he coordinated the release of 13 free songs for US military members called CD for the Troops consisting of tunes from Billy Joel, Gary Sinise, Brooks and Dunn, Jewel and many others.

There may have been no red carpet, acceptance speeches, or flash of cameras for the winners of the 2008 Golden Globe Awards, but Look To The Stars takes this golden opportunity to recognize some of those who were honored and nominated.

Johnny Depp won his first Golden Globe after being nominated seven times since his career began, picking up the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical award for Sweeney Todd. Despite his dark performance, there really is a lighter side to the actor. In the past, Depp’s charitable work garnered him the Courage to Care Award for his contributions to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

John Ondrasik Asks What Kind Of World You Want

John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting has started a charity music video community. The site, www.whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com, offers the public the chance to upload videos which explain the type of world in which they want to live.

At the end of every video viewers can click on the sponsor link; each click donates up to 49 cents to one of the charities chosen by Ondrasik. He encourages submissions, saying, “There are no rules here, your film can be personal, political – write a story, tell a story – anything goes.”

The charities benefitting from the website include Fisher House Foundation, Breast Cancer 3-Day, Save the Children, Autism Speaks, Save The Music Foundation and New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund. John tells us that another charity, Augie’s Quest will be added within the next few months.
