Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated over $340,000 to an aid initiative in Somalia through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

Mohamed Dahir, a spokesperson from Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid – the beneficiary of the donation – says the money will allow the charity increase services that serve 300 women and children every day in Mogadishu’s Badbaado camp.

The organization envisions the end of human suffering in The Horn of Africa through the creation of an environment where people are self-reliant, living in a sustainable and prosperous community with the assurance of a victimless future. They are committed to providing the most vulnerable in the community with the tools to access safe and clean water, to develop and maintain healthy living conditions, to initiate and create income generating opportunities, and develop skills through the dissemination of information, education and training to ensure their future self-reliance.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have given $500,000 to help a Missouri town where Pitt’s mother went to school recover from a huge tornado that struck on May 22.

The couple made the donation through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation on Thursday to help rebuild the town of Joplin after an estimated 30% of the buildings were destroyed by the tornado. Over 150 people were killed.

“The Joplin community faces great challenges ahead,” said Brad. "Having spent most of my childhood there, I know these people to be hardworking, humble and especially resilient.

SOS Children’s Villages, a global organization dedicated to providing family-based services for children without parental care, today announced that Nathalie Nozile, an alumna of the SOS Children’s Villages in Santo, Haiti, has been selected as the first Jolie Legal Fellow.

Nozile was selected after graduating from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law this past spring.

The Jolie Legal Fellowship, created and funded by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, supports the Government of Haiti’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Haitian judicial system in the challenging post-earthquake environment. Jolie Legal Fellows are attorneys who will concentrate on the protection of Haiti’s most vulnerable children in the judicial system, by serving as special assistants to key Government of Haiti officials. Ms. Nozile leaves for Haiti later this month to begin her work.

Cycling legend Lance Armstrong is the latest star to donate to victims of the Haitian earthquake.

The star’s LiveStrong Foundation, has pledged $250,000 to relief charities to help in the rebuilding of the country.

“I think what’s on top of everybody’s mind is the earthquake in Haiti and the devastation we all have seen on television or the newspaper or the internet,” he said in a video message. "Some say more than a 100,000 lives lost.

It has been revealed that E! Entertainment Television made a significant donation to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation last year.

According to Fox News, the media giant made a donation of $250,000 to the foundation established by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to assist with humanitarian crises around the world. The donation was one of four large contributions made to the fund in 2008, including $1,194,911 from Jolie, $956,961 from Pitt, and $5,000 from Jerry Weintraub.

Global Action for Children has announced that it has received a $100,000 grant from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to support its efforts on an Emergency Presidential Initiative for the World’s Children (EPIWC) to ensure children are not left off the agenda during the growing financial crisis, as well as its mission to make every taxpayer dollar more efficient in U.S. foreign assistance for children.

The donation is the second time the couple has given money to the organization – in 2006 they donated $1 million to improve living conditions in poverty-stricken areas around the world.

The donation was made through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, and will help create Duk County’s first modern medical facility.

The plan to build the medical centre was conceived by Sudanese “Lost Boy” John Dau, who was featured in the documentary “God Grew Tired of Us”, which was produced by Pitt. Dau shared the plan with Pitt and Jolie at the film’s première in January.
