Miley Cyrus And Friends Hit The Concert For Hope

Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Jesse McCartney took to the stage on Sunday, October 25, for the 2nd annual Concert for Hope.

The concert, held at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, benefitted life-saving cancer research and treatment programs at City of Hope. Located in Duartes, California, City of Hope is one of the nation’s leading cancer centers.

Lovato tweeted about the show afterward, saying the “concert tonight was incredible! I had a blast and Jesse and Miley rocked it…so amazing!”

Last year’s sold out show, featuring Miley, Demi and the Jonas Brothers, raised more than $1.2 million for City of Hope.

Miley is also donating $1 from every ticket sold on her current Wonder World Tour to cancer research. During her last tour, she raised more than $2 million to benefit City of Hope.

Gossip Girls To Attend City Of Hope Event

On Friday October 30, 2009 a group of young professional philanthropists known as “Future of Hope” will join City of Hope’s fight against women’s cancers with a Halloween-themed benefit called A Night of Mischief at Marquee in NYC.

Celebrities are joining Future of Hope’s efforts in raising the awareness of City of Hope and its mission to find cures for cancers and other life-threatening diseases. Appearances will include cast members from hit television series such as Gossip Girl and The City.

Lending her considerable clout to the cause will be Tinsley Mortimer as she films her new CW reality series “Empire State”. This new reality show will air this winter chronicling Tinsley’s travels, adventures and causes that include finding a cure for women’s cancers. The CW will be in attendance filming Tinsley and her friends as they join together with New York’s Future of Hope. The evening will be dedicated in loving memory to Amy Salm.

The City of Hope, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is one of the world’s leading research and treatment centers for cancer and other serious diseases, including diabetes and HIV/AIDS. The work conducted at City of Hope is shared with medical centers worldwide, touching the lives of millions of people everywhere, including the New York Metropolitan Area.

Tickets are $99 in advance and $120 at the door based on availability. Guests are asked to dress in costume. The night features an open bar with sponsors such as Innocente Tequila, Three Olives Vodka and Manhattan Beer Company. A decadent dessert bar to satisfy even the sweetest tooth comes compliments of the Cupcake Stop and Milk & Cookies Bakery. There will also be a live raffle with over 30 fabulous prizes to be won such as Valentino Handbags, Roundtrip JetBlue tickets, Equinox gym memberships, Private Dinner Catered by Chef Rob of Hell’s Kitchen fame, and Knicks and Rangers Tickets. Charity Reigns Backstage At Teenage Choice Awards

The Teenage Choice Awards held in LA over the weekend were not just a chance for some of today’s hottest stars to show their stuff on stage – backstage there was more fun, all in the name of charity.

Celebrities such as Britney Spears, Jordin Sparks, George Lopez, Kat Von D, Lil Mama, Brenda Song, Keke Palmer, Dane Cook, Shawn Johnson, Jennifer Stone, and Taboo, will.i.am and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas all stopped by to sign backpacks which are to be donated to City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution that is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases, guided by a compassionate patient-centered philosophy, and supported by a national foundation of humanitarian philanthropy.

Stars also played a celebrity version of Bop It – the game that tests a player’s mental and physical skill by having the player follow verbal directions given by the game at faster and faster pace. Celebrities lined up for the challenge, with the winner – Shailene Woodley from ABC’s The Secret Life of an American Teenager – picking up the top prize of $10,000 for the charity of her choice.

Country Stars To Play Softball For Cancer

The 19th annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge is just around the corner, with a host of stars signing on for the chance to play a game for charity.

Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Montgomery Gentry, and Josh Turner are some of the stars already confirmed for the game, considered to be the unofficial kickoff to the Country Music Association’s Music Festival week in Nashville.

City Of Hope is an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution, is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases, guided by a compassionate patient-centered philosophy, and supported by a national foundation of humanitarian philanthropy. To date, the Celebrity Softball Challenge has raised over $1.5 million, with all proceeds benefiting City of Hope.

Leeza Gibbons To Host Magic Of Memories Dinner

Leeza Gibbons will join Fran Drescher in hosting the 6th annual Magic of Memories Dinner on April 25.

The event will take place at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California, and feature guests Larry King and Paul Mitchell CEO John Paul DeJoria. Tickets cost $250 per person, with proceeds going to benefit organizations such as the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation, City of Hope, Food 4 Africa, Fran Drescher’s Cancer Schmancer Movement and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Last year’s event raised over $930,000 for charity, and this year they are planning to top that.

Jenny Jones To Give Further $1 Million To Community Heroes

Former talk show host Jenny Jones is giving away another $1 million to community heroes.

Jones gave away $1 million last year through her Jenny’s Heroes program to individuals who submitted the best ideas for tangible, lasting community projects chosen for their significant long-term benefits. Among them were ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities, such as Dee Wild – who was awarded $7000 by Jenny’s Heroes to buy 15 new ham radios for her fellow volunteer search and rescue K9 handlers – and Rabbi Merrill Shapiro of the Flager County Cold Weather Shelter Coalition, who was awarded $3000 for a new computer printer, a year of high-speed internet access, and warm clothing.

Jenny’s Heroes looks for specific ideas where they can purchase, repair, upgrade, provide equipment, or otherwise make improvements to benefit the community. Grants of up to $25,000 are made for individual projects.

“The Hero does not benefit, they are all doing this for other people in the community, and that’s why they are Heroes,” Jones told Look To The Stars. “The money goes to the store or to the supplier or if someone is installing stuff – we pay him or her directly. For instance, I have a great relationship with Best Buy, among others. If a Hero is awarded a grant and they call me from Best Buy, I’ll give the store manager my credit card to pay for the items. I make the purchases to the point where I have to be by the phone almost all the time. I am 100% hands on. Between reading the applications, personally updating the website and communicating with the Heroes.”

Jenny Jones is certainly no stranger to philanthropy. The Jenny Jones Foundation was established in 2005 as a means to provide assistance to those in need. Primary areas of focus are education, women’s health, and improving communities throughout the country. She has donated heavily to breast cancer research – 100% of the proceeds from her 1997 autobiography went to the cause – and to education for the disadvantaged. She also donated the proceeds from her cookbook, Look Good Feel Great, to breast cancer research at City of Hope. She unveiled Jenny’s Heroes in 2008.

“I didn’t know what to expect!” she said. “I know the Internet is so vast and there are so many people out there and I thought ‘is anybody even going to know this is here’ and ‘what if I get no responses’ but now I’m at the point where I can’t even keep count of how many applications I have, and I read them all. It’s really, really been great.”

Prince Fragrance Raises Funds For Charity

On 07/07/07, Prince and Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics are to launch the 3121 fragrance with a surprise in-store concert and 24-hours of charity fundraising.

The philanthropic event begins at 12 am EST, at which point the 30 ml bottles of 3121 will be available for purchase at www.3121perfume.com. The 3121 collection will also be debuting at select Macy’s stores.

The fragrance will retail for $31.21, with 7% of each sale being divided between 7 charities chosen by Prince and Revelations.

“This event promises to be huge as Prince fans worldwide will be able to participate in this exclusive offer”, says Larry Couey, President of Revelations. “Our goal is to raise a half million dollars for charity on 07/07/07.”

The Hollywood Cookbook Launch Party

Stars and food converged at Kitchen Academy in Hollywood last night for a party launching The Hollywood Cookbook — a beautiful 271-page hardcover collection of sumptuous recipes, each accompanied by a large photo, from the personal kitchens of 20 celebrities and 6 world-class chefs. Five dollars from each purchase benefits 20 important charities dear to the hearts of the celebrity contributors.

The cookbook covers the spectrum of food and beverage, from appetizers, soups and salads, to main courses, desserts, and even cocktails. Michael J. Fox’s Barn Dance Chicken, and Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford’s Savory Fall Stew are just two of the 107 creative and simple dishes that can be duplicated in any kitchen regardless of culinary skill level. Chefs Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, Joachim Splichal, Nick Stellino, Michael Cimarusti and Rocco DiSpirito also contributed recipes to the book.

At the event, the students of Kitchen Academy prepared and served 20 recipes featured in the cookbook, each one tastier than the last. This reporter’s favorite: Door Knob Sweet Potato Balls (an appetizer) from designer Paige Hemmis of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Yum!

Chef Jamie Gwen’s movie-star looks and talk-show host’s presence kept attendees laughing and entertained as the event’s emcee. The evening included a cooking demonstration by actor Greg Grunberg, and an informal awards ceremony. Eric Close of TV’s Without a Trace gave a heartfelt tribute to his charity, Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, which pairs abused children with rescued horses and adult leaders at 24 wilderness ranches around the U.S. and Canada, to help restore the heart, soul, mind and strength of the kids.

Sheryl Crow Brings Message of Hope to the Big Screen

Breast cancer survivor Sheryl Crow has a movie date with you! The songstress recorded a series of Public Service Announcements for City of Hope, bringing attention to their lifesaving research and treatment programs. Over 16,000 US theaters will air the PSAs that will run from September 29th till October 25th.

The announcements were made possible in part through a partnership with Movie Tunes LLC, Forman Bros. Strategic Marketing (a division of Forman Bros. Holdings Inc.) and City of Hope’s Music & Entertainment Industry campaign – and of course, Sheryl. “We are extremely fortunate to have Sheryl Crow donate her time and talent to this project. Her experience as a cancer survivor is inspiring and illustrates so clearly the importance of research at places like City of Hope,” said David Forman, founder of Forman Bros. Holdings Inc.
