Angelina Jolie Donates Soundtrack Proceeds To Charity

Angelina Jolie, Graham King Films and Varese Sarabande Records have announced that a portion of the proceeds from the In the Land of Blood and Honey soundtrack will be donated to SOS Children’s Villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The donation is given in support of the critically needed programs that SOS Children’s Villages provides in Bosnia and Herzegovina to children, youth and families still suffering from lingering effects of the 1990s war in the Balkans. In her directorial debut, Jolie worked with actors from the region whose personal experiences during the war helped inform and shape the film.

Jolie stated, “We are happy that a portion of the proceeds from the film’s soundtrack will support SOS Children’s Villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide stable, family-based homes to children, regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender, who do not have their own families to care for them.”

David Walliams To Play Poker For Charity

LIttle Britain star David Walliams is expected to attend a star-studded charity poker tournament in London tonight, November 22.

The Quintessentially Foundation Charity Poker Night in aid of SOS Children’s Villages will take place at the Savoy, and also expects to attract famous faces such as Emma Crosby, Ben Elliot, Tom Parker Bowles, Zac Goldsmith and many more.

180 players will take their seats alongside A-List faces for a Texas Hold’em tournament in a showdown for 8 money-can’t-buy prizes. As the game tournament unfolds a drinks and canapés reception will also be held for a further 100 guests.

Charity Names First Angelina Jolie Legal Fellow

SOS Children’s Villages, a global organization dedicated to providing family-based services for children without parental care, today announced that Nathalie Nozile, an alumna of the SOS Children’s Villages in Santo, Haiti, has been selected as the first Jolie Legal Fellow.

Nozile was selected after graduating from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law this past spring.

The Jolie Legal Fellowship, created and funded by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, supports the Government of Haiti’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Haitian judicial system in the challenging post-earthquake environment. Jolie Legal Fellows are attorneys who will concentrate on the protection of Haiti’s most vulnerable children in the judicial system, by serving as special assistants to key Government of Haiti officials. Ms. Nozile leaves for Haiti later this month to begin her work.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Jolie-Pitt Foundation has donated $150,000 to SOS Children’s Villages.

SOS Children’s Villages take action for children as an independent, non-governmental and non-denominational social development organization by providing family-based care for children who have lost their parents or can no longer live with them.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Opens SOS Children's Village In India

Oscar nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard have officially opened an SOS Children’s Village in India to house abandoned and orphaned children in family homes.

 The SOS Children’s Village Alibaug has been built in partnership with global lifestyle brand Esprit who have fully financed the initiative. It will accommodate 140 children, who’ll live in small groups in individual family style houses and will go to the SOS-Hermann-Gmeiner school near by the village. SOS Children’s Villages is taking care of 78 thousand children in 132 countries worldwide.

Without the SOS Children’s Village in Alibaug these children would most likely have joined the 18 million children who live or work on the streets of urban India. All SOS mothers provide a loving and safe environment for the children who have lost their families.

True Blood Vampires Battle For Charity

The rivalry between True Blood vampires Eric Northman and Bill Compton is about to hit an all-time high – for charity.

The actors behind the characters, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgård, have joined fansite askarsgard.com for a special charity competition that will see one of them wearing a T-shirt designed by the winning actor and his team – and be photographed wearing it.

The rules of the competition are simple – each vampire has selected a charity close to his unbeating heart, and you will be entered into a prize draw for every $5 you donate to their cause. According to the organizers: “The team that raises more money wins – that simple. So the honored actor will decide what slogan the losing actor will have to wear out of a short list decided by you, the fans. The winning team will also decide what t-shirt slogan the winning vamp will wear in his pictures. Afterward the boys will send us photographs for our viewing pleasure… After the boys take their pictures in their t-shirt…they will sign and return it to us. It is no secret that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt contribute millions of dollars annually to various causes through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation. In 2009, they didn’t run out of steam even as the holidays kicked in, and were still making donations just days before the year closed – $100,000 to support two SOS Children’s Villages.

“In this holiday season, many of us take for granted that we are surrounded by loving family members,” said Pitt. “The poor outcomes for foster children indicate that we must do a much better job of supporting them.”

SOS Children’s Villages was created to do exactly that. By providing a safe, stable environment for orphans, and keeping siblings together, these “villages” offer an alternative to the traditional form of foster care.

Jaden and Willow Smith – the actor children of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith – have spoken about their support for PROJECT ZAMBI, a charity initiative started by a group of Hasbro employees to help raise awareness and funds for the estimated 15 million children who have lost parents and relatives to the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Nelson Mandela Honored With Leadership Award

Nelson Mandela was unanimously selected as the first-ever recipient of the Club of Madrid Democratic Leadership Award on December 15.

The award was presented to the former South African president in a private ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Foundation headquarters in Houghton, a suburb of Johannesburg. According to the Club of Madrid, the honor – just established this past November – is to “recognize and promote ethical and courageous leadership that translates visions of a democratic society into practical action for the benefit of millions of people around the world.”

Mandela became an anti-apartheid activist in 1948, when the National Party of South Africa – a supporter of racial segregationist policies – came into power. He was arrested in 1962 on charges of sabotage against the government, and spent the next twenty-seven years in prison, refusing early release at the expense of giving up the struggle for a post-apartheid South Africa. Following his release from prison, Mandela won the country’s first multi-racial election in 1994 and served as President until 1999.
