Kim Kardashian Gets A Black Eye For Charity

Kim Kardashian is sporting a black eye after Tuesday night’s charity boxing event, but says it won’t hold her down.

“The event itself was absolutely insane!! None of us are professional fighters… we literally had three days of training to prepare for the event and thought it would be a little bit of fun to raise money for one of our favorite charities, The Dream Foundation," she wrote on her official blog. "When Rob [Kardashian] stepped in the ring to fight, his opponent was at least 25 lbs heavier than him, even though the organization had assured us that they were screening the people we were fighting against and that they would be within 5 lbs of our weights! At one point Rob’s mask fell off and when he put his hands down he got hit in the face and ended up in hospital with a concussion. Rob’s a strong guy and can definitely hold his own, but he wasn’t expecting to get hit after his mask had fallen off! This guy just got really down and dirty!

“We were all really angry and upset about what had happened to Rob, but I hadn’t even fought yet and I didn’t want to let the charity down, so I decided to get in the ring. My girl was a good sport, but she was tough! I knew I had to do it for charity, since that’s what it was all about, but man, my girl could throw a punch! Look at my black eye!!!”

The mission of the Dream Foundation is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families battling terminal illnesses.

“At the end of the day, we did this for charity and that’s what counts. Rob is doing fine now and my black eye will be gone soon… I hope. You can try to bring the Kardashians down… but we’re a strong family. A concussion and a black eye can’t hold us down!”

Kim Kardashian Launches Charity Auction

LTTS Exclusive: An Interview With Kim Kardashian

Look To The Stars recently had the chance to talk to television personality Kim Kardashian about the charities she supports.

Which charities do you support?

I am a heavy supporter of the Dream Foundation. My mom and stepdad are on the board. The Dream Foundation grants wishes to terminally ill adults. Every six months I do huge Ebay auctions through Auction Cause, where I give a portion of the proceeds to the Dream Foundation.

I also work closely with Russell Simmons and help him in his Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. A while ago I hosted his big charity event in Miami and we are planning a trip to Africa soon!

Why do you feel this is a worthy cause?

I feel the Dream Foundation is extremely important because there is no other foundation like it that grants wishes to adults.

Were you raised to think about others, or was there an event in your life that spurred it?

I was raised always being taught to give 10% of my earnings to the church, and always went to the Special Olympics with my step dad, Bruce Jenner. Giving back and helping others in need has been a way of life!

What do you get out of it? What would you recommend others do to get involved?

When you can help someone that can’t help themselves, it is the most heart warming feeling in the world! I would recommend to just lend your time, giving back doesn’t mean financial, anyone can do it!

What would you like to see change about the world? What would you do to fix the issues?

We are in obvious need of change right now and I would love to see the economy rise up again. I would tell people to donate their time because the charity world is hurting really bad too, and anyone could help! Its key to stress that!

If you could ask people to do one thing, what would that be?

I would ask Hollywood to continue to support charities and businesses.

Does any of your recent work reflect your feelings on world issues?

All of my work does. From charity events to how I live my everyday life.

Kim Kardashian Empties Closet And Garage For Charity

If Kim Kardashian is the sort of person that spins your wheels, then you may be interested in the new charity auction she has organized.

The 28-year-old television personality – along with boyfriend Reggie Bush – is selling off her collection of cars, including a white Ranger Rover, a Mercedes Shark II, and a Maserati.

“A percentage of the proceeds from this and all my auctions will go to my favorite charity, the Dream Foundation, a really wonderful organization that grants wishes to terminally-ill adults," she said. “I volunteer for them and love the way they’re making a difference in the world… one person at a time.”

Also up for auction is a selection of clothes from the closets of her famous family.

“As you know, I love to sell my stuff on eBay, and give some of the proceeds to charity” said Kardashian. “So I’ve encouraged Reggie to do it with me. We are putting up a whole bunch of auctions. We actually have my sisters Kourtney and Khloe, my Mom, everyone’s selling our stuff. It’s time to clean out our closets and give back a little bit.”

Kim Kardashian Sheds Her Clothes... Again

Fans of Kim Kardashian who want to copy her look should head over to eBay for the chance to get their hands on some of the TV star’s old threads.

The 27-year-old, best known for “the tape we weren’t meant to see but we did”, is letting a selection of designer dresses, boots, bags, accessories, and even the chance to go on a shopping spree with her and her cohorts go out the door in a special charity auction.

“It’s going to be amazing! These are some of my favorite items,” she said. “Plus, [you can] bid to have a fantastic lunch with me and my sisters, followed by some personal shopping help from us at our store.”

The star is also urging other celebrities to follow her lead and donate their wardrobes to charity through eBay Giving Works, the internet giant’s philanthropic arm.

“You get to do something good… and look good doing it,” she said. “And, in case you didn’t know, anytime you sell something on eBay, you can donate a percentage of your proceeds to charity. So clean out those closets and get rid of last season’s clothes for a great cause.”

Proceeds from Kardashian’s auction will go to the Dream Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to the terminally ill. The auction runs until June 8.

Stars Take A Gamble At Charity Poker Tournament

Look To The Stars reporter Delinda Lombardo recently attended the star-studded World Poker Tour Invitational in Los Angeles and caught up with some of the celebrities involved.

On March 1-3, celebrities and poker professionals hit the felt for the 6th Annual World Poker Tour Invitational at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. More than 100 celebrities were invited to compete for a seat in the WPT Championships while raising money for charity, including a side pot worth nearly $30,000 that went entirely to charity in the names of the final 13 celebrities in the field. The three title charities of the event, guaranteed to receive at least $2,500 each, were Soles United, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Harbor Private Funds.

Poker professionals, including Phil Laak, Shawn Sheikhan, Allen Kessler, Kathy Liebert, Jennifer Tilly, Billy Baxter, David Pham, Kenny Tran, and Antonio Esfandiari (who was just named the official spokesperson for the WPT) flocked to the highly successful event, which is now in its sixth year.

Actor James Woods has already established himself as one of the ‘best celebrity’ poker players out there. After losing his brother to a stroke in 2006, it came as no surprise that he plays for the American Stroke Association Charity.

“I’m playing for my brother,” he told me.

Lakers owner Jerry Buss was also playing cards, but it was Lakers forward Ronnie Turiaf who came out a winner. Turiaf has been coping with a heart aliment that didn’t seem to stop him from making the best of it.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. “You know, things happen for a reason, and I just try to make the best of it. God tests us all in different ways.”

And part of this ‘test’ includes corroboration with NBA player/poet/humanitarian Etan Thomas. Thomas recently underwent open-heart surgery. When I asked Turiaf what charity he was playing for, he dropped the bomb on me:

“Right now, I’m working on putting together something with Etan Thomas so we can help others going through the same thing,” he said. “Etan and I talked about it when I went to Washington, my part is going to be here and his part will probably be in Washington. We’re hoping to have it established later this year.”

The name of his foundation – Heart to Heart.

“You know, heart to heart,” he said with his hand over his heart. “As in my heart and his heart, and our hearts reaching out to others.”

Another celebrity taking the time to discuss his charitable efforts was actor Nicholas Gonzalez (Undressed). Gonzalez plays poker on a regular basis, but was much more interested in promoting his charity than his poker skills. Gonzalez was playing for Friends of El Faro, an organization that helps needy kids and families in Tijuana, with celebrities making routine visits across the border into Mexico. When asked about his role, he was quick to take the attention off himself.

“You know, it’s a great cause that I’ve been working with for a while,” he said. "One of the biggest proponents of El Faro is Molly Sims, who has a contract with Cover Girl. They even supported her work, went down there and talked to the younger girls, made up their faces and took pictures. Also Shannon Elizabeth, Adam Rodriguez, and especially Sharon Lawrence, who has been a really huge supporter – there’s a lot of celebrity friends. We used to have big gala every year in Hollywood that’s very well attended, but really, like I said it’s about getting down there, it’s not about who anybody is, it’s about spending time with the kids. We do everything from build playgrounds, to rebuilding kitchens, to knocking down walls – that kind of thing. "

Also on the red carpet was actor Justin Henry (The Junior Defenders), sitting in for actor Heath Ledger, who recently passed away. When asked about his charity, Henry simply stated “I’m playing for Heath.”

Numb3rs actor Will Wheaton walked the Red Carpet while commenting on his Curious George doll, “My son gave it to me for good luck.”

Actor John Hawkes (American Gangster, Deadwood) was knocked out of the poker tournament early on, so I spent some time chatting with him about his charity efforts. Had he not been eliminated, his winnings were earmarked to help save a few animals.

“I love animals,” he said. “So I would have given it all to support Friends of Animals in Utah, they do really great work and are a worthwhile cause that really I believe in.”

Hawkes in also involved with the 1-Second Film Project, a non-profit collaborative film that anyone can be part of. Hawkes is listed as one of the celebrity producers, along with Brett Ratner, Spike Jonez, and Kiefer Sutherland, who are raising money while creating the Worlds Biggest Short Film. All profits raised by the finished film will be donated to the Global Fund for Women.

Tom Everett Scott (Cashmere Mafia, Saved) was playing for a cause close to his heart.

“I’m playing for autism” he said prior to the tournament. “It runs in my family so it’s really important for me to personally get involved.”

Brian Baumgartner (The Office) was there to help raise money for those writers who were affected by the writers strike.

“I’m playing for the Motion Picture and Television Fund for the below the line workers that were affected by the writers strike,” he commented. “Its really an important organization that does a great deal of good work.”

Other celebrities in attendance included Mimi Rogers, who was playing for the Dream Foundation, actor Dwayne Adway (Into the Blue_), who was very proud to support the Creative Coalition, and James Kyson Lee (_Heroes) who has been inspired to start his own foundation.

“I’m just getting it established” Lee happily stated. “Im really excited about being able to help others and give back, I’d like to help the children in some way.”

Other celebrities in attendance included actor Don Cheadle, Meat Loaf, Ryan Stiles (Drew Carey Show_), Donnie Wahlberg (Kill Point_), Mekhi Phifer (E.R_.), Eric Paladino (E.R.), Jonathon Schaech (Prom Night_), Joshua LeBar (Entourage_), Joshua Morrow (Young and the Restless_), Lukas Haas (Death in Love_), comedian Doug Benson, Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer_), Louis Lombardi (Sopranos, 24_), Jeremy Sisto (_Law & Order, Six Feet Under), Andy Milner (Weeds), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Michael Vartan (Big Shots, Never Been Kissed), Ron Livingston (The Time Traveler’s Wife), Tia Carrere, and Andy Hirsh (Big Love).

Congratulations to the winner of the event, Van Nguyen, who became the first female in history to win a mixed WPT tournament. She is married to poker pro Men ’The Master" Nguyen.
