Love Our Children USA Launches Blue Shirt Day To Stomp Out Bullying

Love Our Children USA has announced that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is proclaiming October 5th Blue Shirt Day to signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week, October 4th – 10th.

Thousands of kids and adults will wear blue shirts as they make their way to school or to the office on October 5 as a grassroots national movement to STOMP Out Bullying.

The organization launched the STOMP Out Bullying Campaign in October, 2008. STOMP Out Bullying focuses its efforts to reduce Bullying and Cyberbullying, decrease school absenteeism and truancy, educate against homophobia and racism and deter violence in schools, playgrounds and communities across the country. To date over 53,000 have committed to STOMP Out Bullying on the site.

It’s not just our politicians who support STOMP Out Bullying an initiative of Love Our Children USA, but celebrities are out in full force to help.

Teen Celebrities Demi Lovato, JoJo and the latest children’s sensation The Oogieloves participate in the public service campaign which includes TV spots, videos, posters, brochures and wristbands. Additional celebrities such as Brittany Snow, Naturally 7 and others are slated to join the ongoing campaign created by the Geppetto Group.

In order to raise funds for bullying and cyberbullying prevention, education and peer mentoring in schools, Love Our Children USA is holding its Second Annual Celebrity STOMP Out Bullying Auction on CharityFolks from October 5th –16th.

This year’s celebrity contributors include: Elton John, Billy Joel, Bette Midler, Ellen DeGeneres, Phil Collins, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Bryan Adams, Metallica, Guster, Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Bye Bye Birdie, Rock Of Ages, the NJ Nets and more.

“Kids who are intimidated, threatened, or harmed by bullies often experience low self-esteem and depression, whereas those doing the bullying may go on to engage in more serious antisocial behaviors. Some kids are so traumatized by being bullied, that they contemplate suicide. Bullies often have been the victims of bullying or other mistreatment themselves” said Ross Ellis, Love Our Children USA Founder and Chief Executive Officer. This campaign’s key purpose is to educate those kids who are being bullied and those who are bullying, that there are choices for them to get help.

Demi Lovato and JoJo have created PSA’s in support of Love Our Children USA’s Stomp Out Bullying campaign.

October 4th-10th is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week, and during this week Love Our Children USA is asking kids and teens and their schools and communities to join forces to increase awareness and STOMP Out Bullying.

Ways to help include holding rallies at schools and in local communities, starting a bully prevention education club, introducing peer mentoring and observing National Blue Shirt Day on October 5th. Love Our Children USA is offering materials and support to get people started.

Celebrity Moms Who Are Changing The World

Mothers’ Day is a time for recognizing all moms, including some outstanding celebrities. Love Our Children USA has announced the fourth annual “Mothers Who Make A Difference” list, and Cookie magazine has announced their third annual “Smart Cookie” award winners.

In an effort to acknowledge women role models, Love Our Children USA is looking at women with busy careers who nevertheless manage to be good moms and get involved in charitable causes. CEO Ross Ellis says, “We are delighted to honor and celebrate these selfless and caring women who contribute so much to their children, families, society and to various causes.”

The key goal of the organisation is to prevent violence and neglect against children, and the recipient line up for the awards is impressive – Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry, Tina Fey, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, and Julianne Moore are all on this year’s list.

Cookie magazine looks to honor, “the symbiotic relationship between motherhood and citizenship” by awarding women for whom, “bringing kids into the world sparked a palpable desire to bring change to it, too.” Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman are two such women.

“I think that in some ways, all women are mothers,” says Hayek. “It’s in our nature to protect, to nurture, and to feel empathy; this programming just kicks in more strongly when you have children…After having a baby, I found I became so much more vulnerable—to work on a lot of issues and not see a lot of change can become very depressing… I started working with UNICEF on raising money for and awareness of the tetanus-vaccination campaign. Tetanus doesn’t really exist in the United States, but it’s still a threat in remote parts of the world, especially to new mothers and infants. By getting the vaccines to these places that need them and by training the locals in how to administer them, we can eliminate tetanus in three to five years. It can be history.”

Thurman got involved with Room to Grow 10 years ago when she was expecting her first child. “I lived in the same brownstone as founder Julie Burns, who was just starting it,” says Thurman. “I would see her come in with bags and bags of baby goods. My main function is in fund-raising for the organization, which provides clothing, gear, and developmental toys to children ages 0 to 3 who are living in poverty in New York City and Boston. Clients of Room to Grow meet with social workers on a regular basis for two hours at a time; it’s very dignified and private…Can you imagine a child arriving in kindergarten having never held a book? It’s great to be able to help another mother who has all the same aspirations for her children you do but lacks the resources.”

Tom Arnold Joins Love Our Children USA

Tom Arnold is certainly no stranger to charity work, and he now adds another organization to the many non-profits he supports.

Arnold recently joined the Board of Governors for Love Our Children USA, the leading national charity that honors and respects children.

Established over 10 years ago, the goals of the organization are prevention, keeping children safe and strengthening families. Its message is positive and filled with hope. Love Our Children USA has become the go-to prevention organization for all forms of violence and neglect against children in the U.S.

Among the other charities Arnold supports are the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, Operation Homefront, After School All Stars, and Comic Relief. He also provides two full scholarships every year to students attending Indian Hills Community College and established the First Chance Scholarship Program with the University of Phoenix.

Arnold joins Love Our Children USA’s other celebrity board members Mario Batali, Tom Bergeron, Melissa Etheridge, Mandy Moore, Alan Thicke, and Blair Underwood.

Stars Stomp Out Bullying With New Auction

The Love Our Children USA STOMP Out Bullying auction reported by Look To The Stars last week has now started.

In November, the organization will celebrate its 10th year as the national nonprofit leader that honors, respects and protects children. Its mission is to break the cycle of violence against children. Love Our Children USA has become ‘the go-to’ prevention organization for all forms of violence and neglect against children in the US, and their new Celebrity Auction will raise funds to go towards bullying and cyberbullying prevention, education and peer mentoring in schools.

Among the celebrities and those in the entertainment and sports industries who have joined Love Our Children USA in its STOMP Out Bullying Auction are: Elton John, Bette Midler, Ellen DeGeneres, Sugarland, John Cusack, Donny and Marie Osmond, Ashleigh Banfield, Dancing With The Stars, Live With Regis and Kelly, The View, truTV, “In The Heights”, the NJ Nets and more.

Stars Want To Stomp Out Bullying

Love Our Children USA has announced the launch of its national campaign STOMP Out Bullying with its First Annual Celebrity Auction.

The star-studded auction will take place at www.charityfolks.com from October 6 – 20. Proceeds from the auction will go towards bullying and cyberbullying prevention, education and peer mentoring in schools.

Some kids are so traumatized by being bullied, that they contemplate suicide. Bullying has reached epidemic proportions. While childhood should be a time filled with learning and joy, the reality for many kids and teens is often much different. They’re the victims of bullying at school or on neighborhood playgrounds. Bullying can be so painful and has played a role in school shootings across the country. While boys are more physical, girls use weapons, exclusion, slander, rumors and gossip.

And cyberbullying is on the rise. This social online cruelty is used in the forms of e-mail, cell phone/pager text messages, instant messaging, defamatory personal Web sites, and defamatory online personal polling Web sites. While most kids use the Internet for friendly interactions, more and more kids are using these communication tools to antagonize, terrorize and intimidate others.

In addition to the auction, teen celebrities Demi Lovato and JoJo are participating in the public service campaign, which includes TV spots, videos, posters, brochures and wristbands.

Love Our Children USA announced today the Third Annual “Mothers Who Make A Difference List.”

What is the most difficult job in the world? Parenting!!

As Mother’s Day nears on Sunday, May 11th, and at a time when violence against children affects over 3 million children in our country, Love Our Children USA recognizes mothers throughout the country who truly do make a difference.

This year all of the moms who made the list are celebrities, with the exception of one. Yet, what they share in common are their busy careers and the way they balance their lives to be loving and nurturing mothers who make a difference!
