Hollywood Heroes To Be Honored By Prevention

Laura Petasnick, Publisher of Prevention, has announced the honorees of the magazine’s second annual “Prevention Honors Hollywood Heroes,” an evening in celebration of remarkable women committed to making a world of difference.

The event, to be held at the Sunset Tower Hotel on June 21, 2011, will honor Emmy and Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth on behalf of Maddie’s Corner, Emmy Award-winner and Golden Globe nominee Marg Helgenberger on behalf of The Race to Erase MS, Holly Robinson-Peete on behalf of The HollyRod Foundation and the late Laura Ziskin on behalf of Stand Up To Cancer, for their remarkable commitment to philanthropic causes. Asics will once again team with Prevention as the evening’s presenting sponsor.

Founded by actress/singer Kristin Chenoweth, Maddie’s Corner celebrates the bond between people and their pets while lending a helping paw to those in need. Its their mission to bring attention and support to animals in need – more specifically, homeless animals in shelters/rescue – and groups working on their behalf, as well as to highlight the many ways animals help people in need and enrich our lives. It hopes to increase awareness about responsible pet ownership and the joys of including animals in our lives, to educate about and to inspire humane attitudes toward animals, and to provide resources to those groups working directly with animals in need as well as those working with animals to assist people in need. In addition, we will periodically initiate activities benefiting human causes that will include the participation of animals to convey our message. The hallmark of Maddie’s Corner is that animals, whether as the message or the messengers, will always be active participants in our activities.

On Friday, April 29, Co-Chairs Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger welcomed guests to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza for the 18th Annual Race to Erase MS. The event raised more than $2 million to benefit the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

Celebrity guests at this year’s event included host, MS survivor and advocate Nancy Davis, along with Tia Carrere, Holly Marie Combs, Rachael Leigh Cook, Cindy Crawford, David Faustino, Daisy Fuentes, Debbie Gibson, Melissa Joan Hart, Samantha Harris, Nicky Hilton, Paris Hilton, LaToya Jackson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Jon Lovitz, Chris Massey, Kyle Massey, Dr. Lisa Masterson, Shaun Robinson, Matt Sorum, Raven Symone, Lea Thompson, Sela Ward and many more. Joan Jett and The Blackhearts will headline the 18th annual Race To Erase MS on Friday, April 29, with Nicky and Paris Hilton scheduled to be among the guests.

The annual event raises money for the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis. This year’s event will be hosted by Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger, with guests including Ed Begley Jr., Brooke Burke, Tia Carrere, Aaron Carter, Kristin Cavallari, Joan Collins, Holly Marie Combs, David Faustino, Daisy Fuentes, Greg Grunberg, Melissa Joan Hart, Anne Heche, Jon Lovitz, Shaun Robinson, Raven Symone and many more.

Multiple Sclerosis Month Benefits From Celebrity Power

Avril Lavigne, Tia Carrere and Tom Arnold are just several of the celebrities lending their support to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) survivor and advocate Nancy Davis for May’s MS Awareness Month.

Davis kicked off the initiative last weekend at Kitson on Melrose with the help of a newly formed Junior Committee devoted to the cause. Inspired by Nancy’s dedication to finding a cure, the group of Los Angeles high school students formed the Junior Committee to raise funds and awareness for Race to Erase MS and the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

“I was just at the Race to Erase MS kick-off event at Kitson Melrose and WOW, what an amazing turnout in support of the fight to erase MS!” writes Avril on her Facebook page. “May is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness month and throughout the month, Kitson will sell a variety of orange products with 100% of the sales going to benefit the Nancy Davis Foundation in the fight against MS.
