Hilary Swank Creates Short Film For Charity

The American Cancer Society has teamed up with Hilary Swank on a new short film to inspire women nationwide to make their own health a priority and take everyday steps to help prevent cancer.

Swank is executive producer of the film alongside Molly Mickler Smith of 2S Films and Go Go Luckey Entertainment, and the film is directed by Tina Gazzerro of Go Go Luckey Entertainment. The film helps mark the first anniversary of Choose You, a nationwide movement created by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness that 1 in 3 women will get cancer in her lifetime and the actions women can take today to help change that statistic. More than half of cancer deaths could be prevented if people maintained a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise, avoided tobacco products and got recommended cancer screening tests.

“Choose You” the documentary tells the powerful and emotional stories of three women on their journey to put their personal health first despite many challenges such as family situations, busy schedules, and other roadblocks that often get in the way of a woman’s personal health priorities. The three women featured in the documentary include:

Help Paul Rudd Stop Cancer For His Birthday

Today is Paul Rudd’s birthday, and he has partnered with Edward Norton’s CrowdRise to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

“I’m raising money to fight cancer for my birthday,” says the star. "Donate $26 for the chance to win Live iChat with me.

“For nearly 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been working to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The movement for more birthdays is about everyday people, just like you and I, coming together to make a difference. This year more than 11 million cancer survivors will celebrate another birthday, thanks in part to the progress ACS has already made.

Boyz II Men Sing Happy Birthday For Charity

The American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays, has announced that R&B group Boyz II Men is joining the movement for more birthdays during Minority Health Month by singing their own special rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

The group adds their voices to the support shown by some of the most notable African American and Hispanic American names in entertainment to bring attention to the alarming facts around cancer in racial and ethnic minority communities and what the American Cancer Society is doing to save lives.

ET's Chris Jacobs Supports Charity Daffodil Days

Daffodil Days is one of the oldest and most beloved fundraising programs run by the American Cancer Society for the past 35 years. Every spring, the American Cancer Society offers daffodils to donors in appreciation for their contribution with the flower representing the hope of a future where cancer no longer exists.

This week, Entertainment Tonight’s Chris Jacobs visited The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, CA to help promote the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days campaign.

At the Disney Family Cancer Center, Chris Jacobs, whose own mother is a cancer survivor, met with cancer patient, Linda. He presented her with a bouquet of daffodils. Chris asked where she finds her strength in her fight against cancer, and Linda says, “Well I find it in my spiritual center. I told you that I like to read, one of the things that I like to read is the bible, with the faith and the promises.” In reference to her own battle with cancer Linda said, “The first syllable of cancer is can, and I think cancer embodies a can do spirit… you can overcome it, you can treat it, you can win.”

LTTS Exclusive: Marissa Jaret Winokur Talks Charity And Cancer

LookToTheStars.org’s Hollywood Insider Maxine Tatlonghari was lucky enough to talk exclusively with The Talk’s Marissa Jaret Winokur at the WE CAN Community-wide Food Drive benefiting the Burbank Temporary Aid Center co-hosted by Ali Landry and Yum! Brands on November 16, 2010 at the Burbank Boys and Girls Club.

What brought you out today?

My sister-in-law told me about the day, and my friend Ali (Landry) had sent me an email a long time ago asking me to support this. As friends you like to support each other’s causes and this is a really good one. I do a lot of stuff on my own but I still try to be really good about showing up when my friends ask me to “come, come!”

LTTS Exclusive - Ali Landry's WE CAN Celebrity Charity Food Drive

On Tuesday November 16, 2010, I had the pleasure of joining Ali Landry and Yum! Brands as they co-hosted their first LA Area WE CAN Community-wide Food Drive benefiting the Burbank Temporary Aid Center and the Burbank Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Ali and volunteers – including celebrity parents Adrienne Maloof-Nassif (“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Marissa Jaret Winokur (“The Talk”), Ally Walker (“Sons of Anarchy”), and Bill Horn and Scout Masterson (the “Guncles” from “Home Sweet Hollywood”) – greeted contributors curbside to collect their canned good contributions to benefit the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.

In addition to hosting the WE CAN Food Drive, Ali and her celebrity friends served the children and staff members of the Boys & Girls Clubs a pre-Thanksgiving KFC dinner complete with KFC’s world famous chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and biscuits. In fact, when I asked the celebrities why they came out to support this cause, many cited the fact that Ali had asked them. Of course, they were engaged by the cause but it really helped to have that personal touch from Ali herself. I had the pleasure of talking with many of the stars involved, and the interviews will feature on LookToTheStars.org over the next few days.

Rihanna Wants More Birthdays For Charity

Award-winning singer Rihanna is doing more this week than launching her new album, LOUD, and kicking off the American Music Awards. She’s also lending her time and talent to help the American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays, create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

As the latest musician to join the more birthdays movement, Rihanna is helping draw attention to the fight against cancer and save lives. Her “happy birthday” video – inspired by the 11 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year – will make its television debut during the AMA broadcast, and can be seen on morebirthdays.com.
