Charity Doodle Day USA Needs Celebrity Help

Neurofibromatosis, Inc.’s fifth annual Doodle Day USA celebrity charity auction will begin on eBay Thursday, May 12.

If you are not familiar with Doodle Day, here’s how it works. The Doodle Day Committee mails out hundreds of packets to celebrities, movie stars, television personalities, sports figures, renowned authors and musicians. Each packet contains a letter asking the recipient to draw a doodle on the card that is enclosed, autograph it, and submit it to the committee. The doodles range from scant scribbles to detailed drawings, and each one is vital to the success of Doodle Day.

The doodles will be posted soon on the Doodle Day website at www.doodledayusa.org, so check often! You can also view past years doodles which include Barack Obama, Gillian Anderson, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Martin, Tim Allen, Jason Alexander, Paul Michael Glaser and Howie Mandel, just to name a few. The eBay auction is publicized and the bidding begins! The highest bidder of each doodle will win the auction and receive the original card. The auction itself raises awareness of NF, and auction proceeds further our efforts to support NF patients and their families.

American Stars Doodle For Charity

Yesterday, LookToTheStars.org brought you news about British stars who have created doodles for charity. We can also reveal that the US will also host a National Doodle Day in May.

Doodle Day USA will benefit Neurofibromatosis, Inc., and gives fans the opportunity to bid on doodles created by some of their favorite stars. Some of the famous names to put pen to paper for the initiative include Tim Allen, Jason Alexander, Phyllis Diller, Seth Green, Tony Hawk, Eric Roberts and many more. Special collector opportunities include original artwork created by SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg and late comedian Dom DeLuise.

The doodles will go under the hammer starting May 13. Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington’s Disease combined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure.

Actor Dom DeLuise sadly passed away on Monday, May 4, after a long battle with cancer. But the comedian is leaving a lasting legacy for charity.

In lieu of flowers, DeLuise’s family has asked for donations to some of his favorite charities, such as the Elixir Fund, the Lily Sanctuary, the Hydrocephalus Foundation, and the Pearl S. Buck Foundation.

Obama's Gift Keeps On Giving

One of the most popular annual charity auctions is the celebrity doodle auction to benefit Neurofibromatosis, Inc., and now one of the most famous doodles purchased at the auction is once agian raising money for the cause.

Two years ago, a doodle that Barack Obama drew while presiding over the Senate netted nearly $7,000 for NF, Inc. And now Wayne Berzon, a financial executive in Chicago who won the auction, is gifting the drawing back to the charity to raise even more cash by putting the image on a selection of T-Shirts, mugs, and other items. Profits from the items will go to the charity to help children who suffer from the disorder.

The drawing features single-line renditions of Senators Charles E. Schumer, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein and Edward M. Kennedy.
