Rage Against The Machine Raises Charity Cash At Concert

Rage Against The Machine has donated £62,000 to housing charity Shelter following the band’s concert in London’s Finsbury Park on Sunday 6 June to celebrate the success of their Christmas number one campaign.

The band won the coveted Christmas Number 1 spot in the UK last year with a re-release of their 1992 song Killing In The Name Of, with proceeds going to Shelter and Youth Music – the UK’s largest children’s music charity, set up in 1999 to promote and support music making opportunities and to provide advice to children from birth–18 with the least access, including some of the UK’s most disadvantaged young people .

The campaign was the brainchild of Jon and Tracy Morter from Essex who set up the fan powered page on the social networking site calling on people to download the song to stop the X Factor single reaching the festive number one spot.

Radiohead Donates Song To Shelter Charity

British band Radiohead will feature in a new television campaign for a charity dedicated to the homeless later this month.

The band’s song Videotape will feature in the new advert, which aims to raise awareness of Shelter – a charity that makes a tangible difference to the lives of people in desperate housing need through providing practical help, putting pressure on government, and raising public awareness of the housing crisis.

The advert – called House of Cards (which is, incidentally, the name of another Radiohead song) – will be voiced by British actress Samantha Morton.

Former Pulp Singer Donates Song To The Homeless

Pulp, the innovative pop rockers of the 80s and 90s, may have drifted off into a never-ending hiatus, but former frontman Jarvis Cocker is back with a new single – and this one is for charity. A duet between Cocker and American rocker Beth Ditto has just been released on iTunes, with proceeds going to the homeless.

The pair performed a cover of Heaven 17’s Temptation at the prestigious ceremony in London last March, and decided to release the recording due to popular demand.

“It has taken a full 12 months for the world to be ready for this track – I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed performing it,” said Cocker.
